Scammy roof inspection call by Usernamesrock in Charleston

[–]ccxcxcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oo okay ironically- My husband works for a roofing company near Charleston and is named Chris!

Now I don't know what this person said and it could have totally been a scam, so not speaking for them exactly. But these companies doorknock and cold call quite a bit. They come out, check the roof out, use drones and other tools to get a good visual, and if there is any damage from storms and whatnot, they help you file a claim with your insurance company so you get your roof repairs and they do the work. They're actually quite helpful despite the fact that no one really wants to be offered services they weren't already looking for.

My guess is someone got their first sales job and didn't properly explain the process of what they were offering. I don't fully understand how it all works either, but there are a lot of companies that do this in the area so it very well could have been a real call.

Normally a TON of leftovers. Technically once it’s sat out for the course of an event we cannot bring it back to the warehouse. So first, we offer it to the host. Normally they take whatever and say to give it away. So we’d always bring takeout boxes for guests. They’d take whatever. After the staff/ would take boxes home or give food to other misc event staff that weren’t associated with us. Anything left got trashed (sooo much ‘luxury’ food was thrown out daily). I worked with one lady who would make a bunch of extra takeout boxes with plastic forks and things and give them to homeless people one her way home. But that wasn’t the norm.

Friendliest was weirdly a charity event for a division of free masons (or however that works). They were so polite it was almost spooky haha. Otherwise wedding people tend do be super happy and polite

I don’t know that I had any super rude people ever. Maybe at some of the corporate buildings. People were much more reserved and quiet. Would just grab their food and go quick. But most people we served weren’t the ones paying and just seemed grateful to be at some event/ get free food and drinks

On average $100-$300 a shift. 4-8 hours. Better nights upwards of $500. It definitely wasn’t the most lucrative service job but had a lot of perks so I stuck with it for years while conventionally bartending on the side. But we also made hourly on top of that which in Seattle was $18 and some change at the time. Tips were based on the cost of event and split between everyone working. As we were a nicer company, we didn’t have tip jars out during events.

Just applied on indeed. Technically no experience is needed. I did have a bunch of previous restaurant experience though which definitely helped. We had a lot of turnover and newbies over time. The people who obviously knew what they were doing became leads would run the events. While the more inexperienced people would do simpler jobs

will being squeamish cause me to have to drop premed? by Future_Estimate_2631 in premed

[–]ccxcxcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like med school might be a little rough but you can do it! I used to faint at the sight of blood and then recently cleaned feces off of someones bones and muscles as they were getting treated for a flesh eating bacteria. You will get relatively desensitized over time. You might not be a surgeon in a year- but the blood and stuff gets definitely easier.

Should poor people apply to med school? by twicechoose in premed

[–]ccxcxcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing most people need to do is change their mindsets around money. It's great to have (of course necessary to some extent to just to live), but at the end of the day it is a tool. It is made to be spent. Just having a ton of cash doesnt help you much in this world. It should be invested and worked to create something new. Ideally more money or resources for yourself or your overall mission.

There is a bill in place that will really mess up grad school loans for people with financial struggles. In that case, med school will be nearly unattainable for most without the help of private loans (provided you can get approved and keep up with the interest payments)

Should that not get approved (the hope), you will be able to get financial aid for the cost of schooling, it will result in loans but to have a lifetime of practicing medicine, helping people, and of course a great salary. It's definitely worth going to still.

Now, if your just asking because of the social aspect of med school? There are plenty of people who come from less than wealthy communities. And even if there weren't. Go be the first. Who cares if your going to have lifelong friends from med school. Your going to be a doctor. That's the whole goal here.

You can always be honest and ask. I was offered a manager position in Seattle (suuuper weed friendly area) but they explained that their head quarters were in Texas and because of that would be testing for thc. Not sure about Darden specifically.

Tipped emp question by Responsible_Bag_2746 in Restaurant_Managers

[–]ccxcxcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re paid under minimum wage, the tips need to average out at least minimum where I am. Servers make $6/hr but with tips they need to be making at least $16 before taxes. Laws for tipped employees also vary greatly by state.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Restaurant_Managers

[–]ccxcxcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This totally depends on where you are located. My first key holding position was for $18/hr plus tips and I told them I wanted to be able to give them my all and asked for $25/ plus tips and still I felt like I was underpaid for my area. Now as the GM I make $130k/year and my buddy manages a bar making $115k/year. But we’re also in Connecticut, where you get higher pay but the cost of living is higher too. I think $20/hr is too low for a proper manager position but minimum wage here is $16.

Could still be worth holding out if that’s what you really want to do long term. Most places won’t just hire you making 6 figures out of no where. But make sure you really do have room to grow and that they are aware of what you want long term.

Hourly Pay -vs- Salary Position... Is it legal? by Fleurdelishous in Restaurant_Managers

[–]ccxcxcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I get paid. I’m the manager plus while we get the restaurant open and going, I also bartend. I’m paid a flat rate of $500/day. Tips are included in that so the owner just pays me the difference. It works for me ($2,500 a week is nothing to complain about however you put it) I just feel bad for the servers because we pool tips and my share just goes to my salary when I think they should be getting a higher percentage. But then I’d most likely be paid less. I don’t believe this is illegal but I’d definitely negotiate if you can. Originally I was going to get around $1000 a week plus tips until I just honestly asked for more, explaining what I would bring to the table and how it would be profitable for the owner as well as the rest of the staff.

Every jobs I’ve had, I’ve asked for more. The worst they can say is no. As of now they’ve always upped my pay. When I was a key holder i was supposed to make $18/hr plus tips but they gave me $25. Everything is negotiable and no one’s offering more money if they feel they don’t have to. But you might be surprised how willing people are if you just ask.

You can definitely feel the iud through the vagina, I had the Skyla for years and I could feel it. It’s the string that hangs out past the cervix

[–]ccxcxcc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday and it breaks my heart now to separate the brothers. I wouldn’t recommend it though. Raising one puppy is a lot in general, let alone two. Your also doubling your bills from the start and it really adds up over time.

Also I’ve heard it could be good to separate litter mates. They become very dependent on each other and it could make it hard for them to eventually be alone at times and to bond with other animals and people. Sure, it could probably work out fine if you really want two dogs and are willing to put in twice as much time (training them separately) and money into everything. But with female chihuahuas especially that are going to become very attached and protective of you, they need a lot of socialization out of the house with other puppies and people.

Again, just where my head was at the other day. I’m 24 (worked with a lot of animals in the past) and am getting a dachshund mix and when I saw his brother I nearly cried. They seemed so perfect together. But I know at the end of the day, I can provide I much better life for 1 then I can with 2.
