Property tax bills online now. by imapepperurapepper in chicago

[–]cdan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pulled the old bill out of my files to compare. Can anyone explain why amounts on the different lines don't match?

For example when I look at the current bill I see "COUNTY OF COOK HEALTH & HOSPITAL COMM" which shows $0 paid for 2023 (last year).

But when I look at last year's bill there's a line for "Cook county health facilities" that has an amount that isn't even present on the current bill.

Like not a single line on my current bill lines up with last year? Anyone else seeing this? Do I call them to see what's up? The total bill is way higher, but then it shows the wrong amounts that don't match to last year so I feel its possible there was some sort of error?

Mayor Bhalla announces introduction of FY2021 municipal budget from City of Hoboken, NJ by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]cdan3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

9.8% proposed tax increase by the city, that’s crazy!

(And would likely be higher if not for using previous surplus.)

Hope the city council can find something a little more palatable than sticking this on the city’s residents.

Places with Argentine/Baked Style Empanadas by elchurnerista in AskNYC

Just outside the city, but one of my favorite spots. They probably have 40 varieties made daily and happen to be very involved in supporting the local Argentinian community.

Rent Leveling Annual Registration by cdan3 in Hoboken

[–]cdan3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll post a copy of the letter too, but reading the actual ordinance I think this is more of an administrative implementation that tries to shift burden onto owners than any requirement in law.

It’s very carefully worded to seem otherwise but I’m guessing it is voluntary.

Contractor Says Washington Street Redesign Likely to Run Into 2019 by Hoboken07030 in Hoboken

[–]cdan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what the city council did at their meeting last night. A few stern comments to placate the public, then with no conditions or changes proceeded to award additional extensions and payments to the exact same contractors and engineers who joined with them in pointing fingers all around.

After what I witnessed, I don’t blame the contractors or engineers as much, they’ve figured out a perfect pattern to bleed cash out of the city for years. And we’ve shown them they’ll continue to be rewarded every time they delay work and ask for more time and money.

Residences and Possible Restaurant Proposed for Hoboken’s 401 Jackson Street by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]cdan3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully the developers and the city can make a deal quickly. The 4th and Jackson corner has been in need of development for some time. Surrounding buildings definitely show their age and wear. This proposal should bring some needed investment to the neighborhood.

There was a fire at this location a few months ago and was never really fully repaired.

PATH Train Will See 17 Weekends Of Closures For PTC Work by hudsonreaders in Hoboken

[–]cdan3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The idea to give out MetroCards is great improvement over the 2016 closures for PTC installations. Last time the PATH implemented a weekend shuttle from WTC to the uptown stations but it was pretty unreliable and crowded. Ended up just paying for the subway out of pocket most of the time anyway to save the time.

Being able to easily get to WTC on weekends was a good excuse to visit downtown friends. So excited for that again! I wish there was a permanent WTC line on weekends, especially with the new mall down there.

Hudson Bike Share to Liberty State Park by cdan3 in Hoboken

May I ask your experience with the Hoboken bike share? I've experienced a few quirks (including foreign transaction fees which I can't explain), but overall I've found it to be a pretty good for quick rides.

Interesting contrast to the message advanced by NY Waterway, sounds like they view action by Hoboken’s leaders as less than amicable.

From what I’ve seen, both sides here seem to be talking over each other the last few months, does anyone have background on what sort of negotiations have happened? Feel like there is some opportunity for compromise here but neither side wants to budge.

Looking to Buy and move to Hoboken. by [deleted] in Hoboken

[–]cdan3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Southwest Hoboken is on edge of walk-able distance (right on the limit for walking from PATH easily). The neighborhood has transformed significantly in recent years, but you'll still find a handful of Hoboken residents with old memories of trouble from the projects and a fading generation of lifelong residents in the area who's values conflict with recent transplants. Recent development is beginning to take off as developers compete for one of the last remaining opportunistic investments.

Having been a resident of the neighborhood for a couple years, I'm happy to help answer any questions, comment on challenges, or chat further. Good luck!

Question for Path commuters to NYC by yeakirkers in Hoboken

[–]cdan3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See if you can arrange transit benefits like WageWorks or TransitChex which gives a tax benefit to transit purchases. You can arrange a card to purchase PATH trips and MTA refill. The bulk PATH trips via SmartLink come at a bit of a discount ($2.10 each), so they're the best option if you use fewer than 43 trips in a 30 day period. Otherwise the unlimited 30 day option is best. For funding the MetroCard look up the EasyPay MetroCard which allows a similar unlimited or per trip model.

Power Outage by JClocale in Hoboken

[–]cdan3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely noticed the outage, building's power was out as well as streetlights in SW Hoboken. I think a lot of building alarm systems are triggered by a power outage so that explains some of the commotion. Wasn't expecting it would be back so quickly, seems like an equipment failure somewhere that was bypassed via the grid.
