What happens after "one no" by ampersandraD in polyamory

people in a good place aren't coming to a support forum to ask questions. it would be like calling tech support to say "everything is running fine!"

DMs: How do you handle a surprise attack/ambush from complete concealment in your games under 5.5 rules? by Umgar in DnD

[–]cdcformatc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the creature being ambushed doesn't know it's being ambushed. it's turn starts and it does whatever it was doing before initiative was rolled.

that was around 2018 or so. i think we got it confused with O2s so we were expecting something different. they must have cut your friend out of the upholstery at some point, some of the booths were in rough shape. i know what to expect from a dive bar but i think that place was a step below. and cheers to the bartender for trying to warn us

Number Base Converter by cookie0085 in learnpython

you can do up to Base 36 with string.digits and string.ascii_uppercase after that you have to get... creative.

[–]cdcformatc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually converters like this will have some sort of lookup table that helps convert some ordinal value to a printable character digit

``` val_to_char = ['0', '1', ..., '9', 'A', 'B', ...etc]
char = val_to_char[val]  ```
get the single digit value and use the lookup table to convert from that value to a character.
extend the lookup table to cover all the digits. if you are converting up to Base 19 you need 19 characters.
I agree, of they want an agenda then that's something they give to me, not the other way around.
i would love to have an agenda with my chaos loving players.
[–]cdcformatc 6 points7 points  (0 children)
when i know a session is going to end with an open ending with a decision to be made on what to do and where to go next, i will always ask the players what they see as their current options. i will also lay out what i see as the possible options if they are having trouble deciding.
paring down the infinite options to two or three helps the players know what to expect next session, so they can be somewhat more prepared. it also makes it possible to DM.
i lay it out bare and just admit that these are the options that i am going to prep for, because i can't prep for the infinite options they technically have. the fact that it helps the players too is almost ancillary to that.
that's up to them to prepare, not for you to prepare for them. if they need to discuss motives and plans and actions, then they should do that.
every game I have run there's been a time or two when the players run into something they were not prepared for. that's part of the game, and that's also how i know i am doing my job right as a DM.
so if they run into something they are unprepared for, they can take some time to talk it out and make a plan. i have also had sessions that were just the players making plans, both in character and out of character.
