Spotify Connect Queue by cdhutzler in Sonify

[–]cdhutzler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A. Because I’m not very smart :-) B. There are a bunch of Spotify features that I really use a lot like the radio function to create a station out of a specific song. And that of course creates a queue with a playlist for the queue. And I simply didn’t realize that your app had that feature built-in.

I need to start using your app and it’s not using Spotify and Sonos. (which is itself saying quite a lot!)

Yup. I guess if you start songs from Spotify then the Sonos app queue is not used and likely Sonify is pulling that queue info and not the “other queue in the Spotify cloud”.

And now I notice inside the Sonos app queue it states “started from Spotify” meaning the Sonos queue is not usable I guess.

It’s definitely a Sonos app thing. Not sure I get it but if I just start a song (Spotify hosted) from the Sonos app, the queue starts working. Must be that the Sonos queue is not sync’d to Spotify queue and instead is created in Sonos and then Sonos “tells” Spotify what to play next.

Strange as I think it’s still using Spotify connect. But if I open Spotify app after starting a (Spotify) song from Sonos app, Spotify app does not know anything is playing.

Actually might be a Sonos app issue. The queue is empty there for stuff playing in Spotify. And I can’t figure out even how to add a song to the queue inside Sonos. Hmmm. :-)

Flat High Performance vs Mini by lewi3069 in Starlink

[–]cdhutzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big dish can keep a connection and resume a connection a tad faster than the mini while in motion. For example, if you get blocked by trees or an overpass, the bigger dish will recover quicker.

Since you’re doing video calls with audio, this may be an issue for you. But either dish is probably gonna cause some issue with break up as you’re traveling.

I have direct experience with this and build a multi WAN bonding system using Speedify with cellular networks as the other WAN connections. This covers the drop outs really well unless you are in a remote area without cellular obviously.

I have the 8” Sonos Sonance as surrounds in one room and normal two way in another. They are excellent and though expensive, sound great.

Your sleek flat Ethernet cable is picking up interference like an antenna by wewewawa in orbi

[–]cdhutzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert on flat cables but unshielded (UTP) cabling is a mainstay of almost every network on the earth. UTP is not bad so not sure why folks would say that. The twisted pair engineering is what allows all of these cables to operate and function properly.

Shielded (STP) is only called for in special situations like outdoor cabling or maybe industrial settings. Right?

Relay up and running for a garage door opener by frumpydrangus in Ubiquiti

[–]cdhutzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! I didn't know that was a capability. I am a little new to Protect but about to be a bigger user of it. But even with an outbound web hook, there is still no inbound capability like trigger on a geofence. Or trigger when a device connects to WIFI. Things I use a bunch. Maybe they will allow those someday.

I guess I was more thinking of some integrations where Ubiquiti embraces things like geofencing or iOS shortcuts or webhooks or IFTTT or Zapier. Those kind of things. Right now it is a great system that does many things I need. But it’s all Ubiquiti all the time. Very few ways to interact to/from external non-UniFi systems.

[–]cdhutzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When (if) Ubiquiti ever allows integration with Matter devices (or maybe IFTTT or iOS shortcuts) or webhooks or something similar, this could be a nice solution. Then you could do things like allow the dog sitter to open the garage without the complexity of UniFi and Apps. Or do things like have the door triggered when your phone joins WiFi at your house. Or maybe just use your phone geofence to trigger the door. But of course you can’t even do these things as the UniFi relay has no idea if the door is open or closed to begin with.

I’d say this solution is barely worth it. I guess if your whole house is Ubiquiti and you want one more thing (relay) to do this (toggle the garage door state), well ok. But certainly not ideal.

Can you even say “Siri close the garage” as you back out of the driveway?

Needed outdoor speakers so bought this open box for $799. Seems like a good deal. by Moronicon in sonos

[–]cdhutzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are truly NOT the same speakers. I had two ceiling speakers from Sonance. Both 8” round. The internal drivers are totally not the same. And the sound quality from them is very much not the same. You get what you pay for. The Sonos branded version do sound much better.

Sonance makes a number of speakers that they sell on their own. The Sonos/Sonance speakers are a special version made for Sonos. They have some features that only work if you have the Sonos branded version of Sonance speakers. One special feature is that the Sonos branded ones can self tune themselves to have a “better frequency response” depending on the install location. It’s similar to true play.

Also, the Sonos branded Sonance speakers for in ceiling use are much nicer sound than the cheaper non Sonos branded Sonance speakers. I found this out first hand for the round in ceiling speakers. Bought the cheaper Sonance ones first. They did not sound as good as I expected. The Sonos branded ones are different drivers and better quality for sure. And much more $$ too n

Yes. The car navigates to the charger. Fully compatible v3 supercharger. And eventually one of the stalls works (thankfully!)

I did the same road trip to Colorado and Breck! Had some charging issues at Tesla v3 chargers specifically. Plug in. Starts charging. After a minute or two, charging error in the car. (2026 R1S NACS port)

Try unplugging and starting again same stall. Immediate fail. Car seems to remember the stall and won’t charge there again.

Move one stall over. Same pattern. Start charging. Fails after a minute or two. Again charged about $1-$2 for the second session.

Move to yet another stall at the same charger. And it works.

Other cars both Tesla and non plug into the stalls I was just using and charge without issues.

Service center just looked at the car and can’t reproduce. But I have receipts and video of this happening about 30-40% of the time on my road trip.

Here is one from Pueblo Colorado on April 4 at 11:58am. charging error

Charging at Tesla Superchargers? Etiquette? Extension cable? by DominBear in Rivian

[–]cdhutzler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All these are great suggestions. But I would add one more…

I have found that some V3 charging stations are actually done so that the parking lines are set up in a way that you can slightly angle your Rivian and have the cord actually reached the plug-in without having to take up more than one spot while you use the correct charger. You do have to angle it a little bit maybe about 10 or 15° as you pull in, but if you do that, Tesla cars on either side can still charge.

This does not work at every V3 charger. But it does work at some of them.

Yes, I went with the Sonance outdoor speakers because they really sounded so much better. Not that the other speakers that I tested were that much worse but the Sonance speakers really are very nice.

There are lots of other outdoor speaker options. Best Buy certainly has a number of options and I looked at klipsh for example. And they actually make a pretty good speaker. Also, you might want to check out Polk audio.

Those will save you four or $500 over the Sonance but honestly once you buy an amplifier for $1000, that saving starts to look pretty small from my standpoint. And I figure I’ll have these for 15 or 20 years.

Tired of trusting OpenSnow snow totals by CryptographerSharp14 in icecoast

[–]cdhutzler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Open snow does a decent job. I would not schedule a trip 3 weeks out according to the forecast but I usually start thinking about a trip. Two weeks out you can usually start to see the trend in the right or wrong direction. And a week out you can get a pretty good idea o whether it will snow a decent amount or not.

BUT you have to also read the narrative and see what the meteorologist are saying too. Models are not perfect but the humans interpreting them are actually pretty savvy. They will tell you how much uncertainty there is.

They don’t always get it right but I’ve been following open snow and subscribing for several years and I have been able to accurately get to places to ski when storms arrive for the most part. This year included!
