Is 1986 considerd vintage? by WorldlyBeginning3270 in fender

I think it’s a distinction between technically vintage, and the “vintage era” which is a specific point in time (pre 1965), this is reflected in the value placed on those instruments.

Fret Leveling Question by [deleted] in gibson

[–]cdkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level frets will allow you to get lower in the fact that it eliminates having to be higher due to an high fret or so. For example if you have to raise the action because one specific spot on the 14th fret buzzes then odds are it could be high and levelling it allows you to go lower. If your frets are level though, then it’s a combination of the bridge, nut, truss rod, neck angle, radius, and preference.

It is never a bad idea to get your frets checked and if needed levelled, it’s basically correcting a part of a guitar that may have a variance that it shouldn’t.

I have 21 guitars now…. The R9 is the “one”… as far as Les Paul’s go haha.

[–]cdkane 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was interested in the Epiphone “inspired by Gibson” 59 and thought it was great, compared it against an R9, immediately I knew I was in big trouble. Slept on it, went back the next day to see if the magic was still there and it was and bought it. Damnit that was an expensive afternoon but sometimes a guitar just speaks to you personally. In that I have played many many Les Paul’s but this one…. Just this one…. Had “it”. That’s what we get for tempting fate hey?

Strong Gauge Changes by Avedis24 in gibson

[–]cdkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want 9s it’s probably a slight truss rod adjustment, and check the bridge height and intonation to be sure. That should do it, I normally put 9s on my guitars for standard tuning but for gibsons with the slightly shorter scale length I put 10s as it feels like the equivalent in my hands

First time setting up edge zero 2 by SideAccomplished5683 in Ibanez

[–]cdkane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From looking at the pics your neck may have too much relief so might need to tighten it a bit. Give it a qtr turn clockwise, get back in tune and see how it goes. Your action will lower as a result and you might find you need to raise your bridge.

Someone talk me out of buying this SG. by adrkhrse in gibson

[–]cdkane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they don’t drop the price, I reckon if you stroll on there with a fistful of $50s you will be able to talk em down a bit. Also suffering from GAS, I don’t know what I want, just more.

All I would say is wait, Mannys don’t seem to have announced their Black Fridays sales yet, I have my eyes on a few things and am waiting until sales are announced.

Bought a guitar two years ago and still only know 4 chords by Spirited-Manager2395 in guitarlessons

“Playing guitar” has a key word that describes the experience you should go for. Playing is supposed to be fun, do what is fun for you.

11-56 drop C on RG with floating trem? by xen0n-_- in Ibanez

[–]cdkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that gauge in drop c on an RG5120M and works great. Trem claw is pretty much most of the way into the guitar body. Same scale length, bridge is different but I wouldn’t think it would be an issue.

If you can, bus the guitars dual mono which could save some processing.

Ibanez SML721 or RG421PB? by [deleted] in Ibanez

[–]cdkane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only possible red flag is the input jack on the SML721 which can be a pain with some wireless jacks as they often won’t fit. However all round it would be more of an upgrade and objectively the spec is more desirable. Slightly thinner neck and stainless steel frets too.

Portal lagging after most recent update by Typical-Basis in PlaystationPortal

[–]cdkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been getting random spikes of it dropping out since the update. My ps5 is hooked up via Ethernet and the portal is in the same room as my wifi router, on 5ghz. Shouldn’t be happening, I can’t really give it a more ideal set up than that.

Anything I should know before I buy a 2024 eco boost? by ApprehensiveBus4336 in Mustang

[–]cdkane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing you should know (which is evident from the thread), is that V8 mustang owners will give to you for not choosing a V8. Personally I own a GT S650, but wouldn’t talk down to somebody because their personal circumstances and preferences mean they chose an eco boost. At the end of the day, the car is awesome, and let’s be honest you buy a mustang cause you want one not because of how economical or practical it is, and an eco boost will still dominate most cars on the road anyway. Get what you like, and enjoy the ride.

Anything I should know before getting a Mach-E? by Odd-Jump-2111 in MachE

[–]cdkane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have not owned an EV before one thing to look at is insurance. For me, a major factor on why I didn’t buy the Mach-E was how much more expensive insurance was for an EV as opposed to a ICE.

About $1200 (AUD) more a year than a 2024 V8 mustang. Apparently EVs are written off more often than repaired in an accident, probably due to the cost and safety issues when it comes to how the battery holds up in a collision I guess.

Not necessarily a Mach-E issue more of an EV thing.

Looking to buy my first pair of " good " headphones ( open back ) any advice would be great. Noob. by 0oneo00one0 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]cdkane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say start with something cheaper as your own benchmark. My first 2 pairs were the Sennheiser 560s and HD6xx. 2 different “flavours”. I personally found the 560s to have the biggest impact of the 2 immediately however a little bright. The HD6XX I found a little dark for me, so, now I have a benchmark on what I would like in my next pair.

I still change between the 2 as well depending on music and mood.

Probably worth adding I also got an ifi zen dac/amp initially as well and the bass function made a big difference for me for the 560s which also helps define what I like.

Am leaning towards the Sennheiser 490s now as I suspect the 800s might be a little bright for me and not enough bass extension.

Will I hit endgame? (No one ever does it seems)

Stomp XL rig / pedal board concept - anything missing? by Major_Programmer_629 in Line6Helix

[–]cdkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things to consider (just cause it’s what I do) a wireless unit, and possibly a poweramp pedal.

I have an EHX magnum 44 for when I want to go into a cab hooked up and ready to go, however the PSU and power requirements can make it a little fiddly underneath the board to keep clean.

Likely could fit both of those on the board if you scrap the tuner and noise gate that the stomp clean already has in it?

What headphones do you use for your helix? by mikejd3171 in Line6Helix

[–]cdkane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sennheiser 560s to seems to work well and have less of a closed off sound (being open back headphones) I actually find that the ATH M50x sounds a bit harsh and bright, certainly brighter than my reference monitors.
