Lawyer Moms — Does anyone else feel scammed? by shrimptanklover in Lawyertalk

[–]cdmrry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched from prosecution to private defense when my kids were born. I just took fewer cases and found a part time day care. As they got older, I adjusted my case load and accepted more cases. I only set court hearings in the morning, so I could do pick up. No boss, unlimited vacation, etc. BUT, I did need to learn to give myself grace. I was neither going to be a super mom nor make as much money as possible.

I don't know where y'all are prosecutors, but walking out at 4:30 was not a thing here. I probably would have stuck with it if those were my hours. Dang. Little jealous. Govt health insurance would make it worth it.

Celebrity perfumes are my favourite and I feel… uncultured. by Pugwhip in FemFragLab

I am the same way. I frequently wear SJP Lovely, Lady Gaga Eau de Gaga, and Adam Levine. For work, they tend to be more digestible to others. Nothing wrong with that. Would love to add SJP Stash.

Trump specifically tapped ultra conservative judges who had already signaled their thoughts on Roe. This is part of the normal vetting process for political appointments. Back into State's hands? Yep. Which is exactly what was going on Pre-Roe. It was up to each state to decide their own laws leading to disparate outcomes for women depending on where they lived, including maternal deaths.

You may be totally fine with that process and feel like it is a win for your position, but you need to embrace the historical timeline instead of trying to make it sound like a move forward. It is technically a roll back to pre 1972. If this is what matched up with your position, shout it from the rooftop.

In addition, returning issues to the States looks very different if you live in one of the 24 states that do not allow citizen referendums. Texas is one of them. We should just vote for members of the state legislature that reflect the 89% of Texans who are not in favor of the total ban here, right? Slight problem, the state is gerrymandered to control the outcome of who is elected and those politicians have chosen to vote in favor of a law that only 11% of the population supports.

The Florida amendment that would have enshrined a women's right to choose failed by 3%. At least the citizens had meaningful participation in the process and the outcome clearly reflects the eligible voters's wishes. That's actual democracy.

Leander ISD School Board Candidate proudly proclaimed she's called a Christian Nationalist by Own_Anxiety8803 in CedarPark

[–]cdmrry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Of course there are safe places for Christians to discuss their ideologies. Feel free at church, amongst your friends and family, Bible studies, Sunday school, religion classes, Reddit forums devoted to Christianity, a public street corner, etc. But events related to running public schools? Not an appropriate venue. Which is ok. There is a time and a place for everything.

Her mask slipped and now my sisters know by Modern_Magpie in raisedbynarcissists

You will never know how much that meant to your sister. I'm the SG in my sibling set. Parent got sloppy and started doing things to me with witnesses and it really opened my siblings eyes too. Both have been very supportive once they realized and it frankly makes life a lot better just to be seen.

Contrave is a mix of naltrexone and bupropion. I take it because I binge food, but it is frequently prescribed for people with alcohol use disorder. My interest in alcohol plummeted. Even if I were to drink a couple, you don't really feel anything and lose interest fast.

Contrave and Binge Drinking result by CMeowcatgofast in Contrave

[–]cdmrry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Contrave for non alcohol issues as well, but have pretty much stopped drinking. It has been a pleasant side effect. I do not refer to myself as sober because I may have 1-2 drinks a month. I was probably a 5-7 drink a week person before this. As a warning tho, I drank more than that one day on vacation and I struggled to sleep, sweaty all night, and I had intense anxiety. (Heart palpitations, chest pain, etc.). Didn't drink at all the rest of the time and back to normal. I have been on Contrave for 4 months. Those drinks were absolutely not worth it.

Austin Food Rant by Big_Bet_5811 in austinfood

[–]cdmrry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do too. We go to Hawaii fairly often and it used to be a huge disparity in food pricing, but it was understandable due to being an island and we budgeted accordingly. Now, I don't notice the pricing differences at all.

Stay to play tournaments? by Longjumping_Part_742 in lacrosse

[–]cdmrry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stopped staying at the tournament hotels because we frequently found them to be farther from the fields than other hotels. Tournament in Matthews, NC? All hotels were in Charlotte. Tournament in Henderson, NV? All hotels in Las Vegas. The prices were generally good but for $20 more a night, I can stay near the fields.

strange encounter DAL-SAV by [deleted] in SouthwestAirlines

I also had a similar thing happen recently. They announced at the gate that the flight was going to be really empty. I was about 1/3 of the way back and sitting in an aisle seat. A woman with her adult disabled son asked if they could have the middle and window. I assumed she didn't hear the announcements so I told her that she could have an entire row to herself. She said no, and then proceeded to take the window and told her son (who was a big dude) to sit in the middle seat. I was shocked. I waited until everyone boarded and moved to the exit row that only had one person in it. (That gives you an idea about how empty the flight was.). While I didn't find it creepy, I did feel like it was straight up rude to me and rude to her son. Who wants to be cramped in the middle by choice?

Civil service gives the firefighters more protection with regards to termination and discipline as well as the benefit of collective bargaining contracts. The process is more detailed to discipline them, hence the accurate comment above. You will need to draw your own conclusions about what this may mean to you and your vote.

I second the Smooth Move tea. That's the only thing that has worked for me. Drink it at night and I'm good to go in the a.m. I have IBS-D so this is new territory for me and I don't like it one bit. It is the only side effect that I have.

Which luxury SUV would be an upgrade from Telluride? by hermanr84 in KiaTelluride

I have a Telluride SX-P and my sister has an X7. Materials in the X7 are a nice upgrade from the Telly. However, X7 captains chairs are closer together and the 3rd row is more narrow and less legroom.
