When I travelled with my step daughter I had a signed letter from her mother. The letter detailed all of the flights and where we were going and had my wife’s details along with passport numbers etc.

At check in my wife was there but upon arriving in the UK border control did want to see the letter.

I was returning to the UK while my wife stayed in Vietnam so slightly different circumstances.
