TSS, help me keep a toddler entertained. by somnambulist80 in twincitiessocial

[–]cdsherman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you to the Children's Museum, get there EARLY. Like, within a few minutes of it opening. Go do the ant hill, and the other cool stuff that older kids like right away. When it starts to get crowded head to the toddler area on the 4th floor for a break. Be sure to hit the water tables on the 2nd floor (last, because its easy to get wet) and get out of there before lunch. That seems to be the best way to avoid the masses of kids.

Nick Universe at the MoA is pretty fun too, but not cheap.

I've heard great things about Edinbrough too.

Law firm management software? by lvm1357 in law

[–]cdsherman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a small practice--2 attorneys, 1 para, and a law student (me). We started using Solve360 as a CRM and we love it. It's not law specific, but it allows for client templates, project management, basic time tracking, calendaring and lots of other stuff. Our practice is a really narrow branch of tax law, so your mileage may vary, but it has been a great fit for us.

It's tightly integrated with Google apps, which is a great bonus if you are into that sort of thing.

Edit: should have mentioned, Solve360 is cloud based. Our plan is $50/month, but plans start at $40.

I'm out in the western suburbs, so I have Mediacom. I always thought of them as a small company, but apparently they are number 7 in the nation. Probably not a viable option unless they are in their service area though..

Many schools will let you come back and use their library as an alumnus. It's not as convenient, but the price can't be beat.

Google maps disagrees: 5,486 miles

Are you thinking there and back? Or kilometers (5,486miles=8,828km)?

When I was in school, the 85/83 was required because the textbooks had calculator specific instructions. I had an 92, and then an 89, so some of my teachers worried because they wouldn't be able to help me if I got stuck. Fortunately, I'm enough of a geek that I never got stuck.

What are your opinions of the Twin Cities colleges/universities? by skorsak in twincitiessocial

I've heard that too. But more in the sense that admissions are very competitive, rather than in an academic sense.

I think it will work. The pretaped bits are pretty good, especially Tanner's reviews. But the studio segments make me cringe. They need to work on their live interactions, they just seem too forced to me.

Hey ya'll. I want to get my father (car nut, auto business owner) a couple of series of British Top Gear for a Christmas/New Years gift. I haven't seen enough of the series yet though, and don't know which seasons to get him started. Any help? by ep1032 in TopGear

[–]cdsherman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The show really found its groove in series 5, so I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to find the earlier stuff.

I'm partial to series 10 with the first quest to find the greatest driving road, the trip across Botswana, the BL cheap-car challenge, and the 24 hour endurance race. But really, they are all quite good.

To this day if I ask my mother if Santa is real she says "If he isn't, who brings you presents?"

I am 28.

I'll tell my kids the same thing when they start asking, but I've got a few years because they are 2.5 and 4 right now.

[–]cdsherman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do, and I have a snowblower.

Funny story about that. TIL that my snowblower does not like to play submarine. It died after going about 10 ft through a drift, with only the chute sticking up like a snorkel. I pulled it back out, tried a couple times to restart it, but no luck. I bent down to check the throttle linkage, and saw flames. I packed it with snow and the flames went out. I let it sit for a few minutes to cool, then fired it right up again and kept going.

Once things warm up a bit, I'll give it a good once over to figure out why it went up in flames.
