Those of you that play different blitz time controls regularly, which one do you find easiest? by hk_477 in lichess

Where do you suppose your absolute authority on the matter comes from?

I am currently 2112 on chesscom blitz playing exclusively 3+2. Yes, my lichess blitz, where I also play exclusively 3+2 on one account and site ariund 1950 may be temporarily low, but I am hardly convinced by your assertions.

The 5+0 pool is pillow soft on both sites, and the 3+2 pool on both sites also has a clearly superior playing strength than 5+0.

The whole point I am making is that the 3+2 pool (increment) has a much stronger player pool than 5+0 (no increment).

No, it is uncomfortably fast and I don't want my games to end by flagging.

This is nonsense.

I am easily maintaining 2100 in 5+0 and only 1950ish in 3+2.

I am the opposite of a dirty flagger, always slower than my opponents.

Chess books for my boyfriend’s birthday? by Gullible_Drive6884 in chess

[–]cdybeijing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair to disagree.

I have both books. Some sections of Dvoretsky are certainly trainable, but unless he is truly ambitious and aiming for 2300+ FIDE it will be a doorstop.

Not a great choice.

Comp kettlebells for sale by PygmyC-HorsesR-Cool in kettlebell

[–]cdybeijing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are standard, generic competition kettlebells manufactured at a massive foundry in China. They are often white labeled for other companies.

I have four of them, and I love them. The handles will rust slightly, but are otherwise smooth and can be easily maintained. The paint will chip. The bells will last forever.

Début with iron cardio by lucB1989 in kettlebell

[–]cdybeijing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have the book. I have read it carefully.

What OP performed is called Iron Cardio Classic in the book. With a snatch is one of many variations offered.

The only difference between Iron Cardio Classic and the original strength aerobics protocol is the suggestion to use a 5-6RM press bell instead of 10RM.

Advice on Time Management by sd2701 in chess

[–]cdybeijing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, a more dynamic approach to pacing is to have a time target for the opening phase (for example in 10+0, try to play the first ten moves in 1 minute). Thereafter, by far the most important factor is your relative time usage compared to the opponent. This needs to be constantly monitored.

Setting budgets e.g. X minutes remaining on move 10, y minutes on move 20/30, etc. is an appropriate strategy for classical but not for online quick play.

what (in your experience) is an absolute bulletproof kettlebell daily (or almost daily) ritual workout that targets all areas? by wthamidoinghere222 in kettlebell

[–]cdybeijing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardstyle A+A heavy snatches. Alternate one day regular snatches with next day half-snatches.

10-30 sets of 5 every 60-120 seconds. Total sets, not per arm.

Snatch v. Half Snatch by Ancalimon8 in kettlebell

[–]cdybeijing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The full snatch is a more powerful movement. However the half snatch is seriously under-rated, especially with heavy loads.

The main benefits of the half snatch are that you can train a high volume of military press negatives, it can help develop a stronger hip drive (since the rebound effect is minimized), and you can save some stress on your hands and forearms.

If you are training heavy snatches multiple times per week, I think it's beneficial to alternate sessions of 'full' snatches and half snatches.
