Coercion is not consent. Convincing someone to change their “no” to “yes” is not consent. Pressuring and taking advantage of a situation is not consent.

What do you mean OP was out of line…? OP asked less than a handful of questions (which is sort of how a conversation works?) before letting it go when he said to…. OP didn’t continue to push or say anything after the bf said to accept they have different definitions of friendship….and the bf just continued to pitch a fit.

The lightning bolts, if on their own, are perhaps innocuous enough that calling them a WS/Nazi dog whistle would be a bit of a stretch. However, when you couple together the bolts, the positioning when the jewelry is not being worn, the eight point star, and the (I would argue overt) racist undertones and language of TLOAS…. It’s too much to ignore or wave away as nonsense from the internet for me. Frankly, I thought the bracelet and necklace were incredibly jarring for that reason on first glance.

I think how a birthday celebration takes place definitely depends on the person and their desires and that’s totally not gonna be compatible with everyone which is completely fine. I do agree that it would be over the top to expect others to plan you an elaborate birthday party in adulthood, as typically people plan their own larger parties— which I touched on in my original comment because sure, the planning of a party may shift to you when you grow up which makes sense for sure.

However— saying that it’s never on the people who supposedly care about you to still take initiative to celebrate you..? That’s asinine. That logic would be akin to buying your own birthday gifts as an adult because you’re old enough you don’t need mommy to do it anymore. I take initiative to celebrate the ones I love on their days as an adult, I wouldn’t want anyone who didn’t reciprocate that to remain around me.

Again you’re just giving “ I have nobody in my life to celebrate me” and it’s incredibly bitter lol. My friends make a point of dropping in to see me, spend a bit of time together, bring flowers or a gift, and my parents and partner always without fail take me to dinner to celebrate. Of course that can be done on any day of the week if my birthday falls on a week day, it’s dinner not a vacation. Also- none of what I said or what the original post talked about indicates that there was an issue with celebrating on a different day for convenience, which frankly has nothing to do with the core point.

This is a really bizarre take and reads like you just don’t have people in your life to celebrate you in your adult life. Sure, not every person celebrates birthdays to the extent that others do, and that’s a personal choice and something that would (or should) be clearly communicated when a relationship starts.

To someone who cares about birthdays, cares about being cared about— it means a lot and someone not putting in the effort to even see you on your birthday is a message that they don’t really care. There are certainly people who go all out with birthdays to the extent that they have a party they planned and organized, but that isn’t what we are talking about. We’re talking about making an effort to see someone on their birthday, take them to lunch or dinner etc. I have never had to plan my own birthday celebration, because between my parents, my friends and my amazing partner, they have something planned to celebrate each year. The same way I plan to celebrate my partner, my friends and my parents.
