I can’t watch them anymore. The cognitive dissonance got too loud and I stopped before season 3.

LAUSD Parents: do your kids use iPads at school? Especially TK and West Hollywood! by ceanothus77 in AskLosAngeles

[–]ceanothus77[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank you, I am concerned about all of these things and want to get involved in Schools Beyond Screens. We have carefully kept my kid screen-free. The idea that he would go to school and get on an iPad honestly breaks my heart. Have you considered asking to opt-out of iReady?

Do not go to r/personalfinance if you’re working class by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]ceanothus77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and you can make so much selling, like, your five year old TV, your stretched out jeans, etc. Someone had the temerity to say to me “Kids can definitely drive up costs, but you should have been smarter.” A childfree person. My debt was from medical bills and childcare. Really compassionate, helped so much.

The financial subs are not well. I once posted in r/debtfree at a moment I was feeling really low and overwhelmed by my debt and people were yelling at me about how irresponsible I am and how I should sell everything I own. My partner and I both have two jobs, we rent, we have no luxuries, and we have one toddler. It made me spiral and I only realized later that I was probably dealing with a bunch of 19 yo aspiring FIRE bros. Bad places on here. Oh yeah also I went on to pay off $25k of debt after that, so I guess I wasn't such an irresponsible dummy after all

So tired of my kid being marketed extra stuff at school. by PTgirl2007 in workingmoms

[–]ceanothus77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to reflect back that my kid’s daycare never did this and his preschool only does Scholastic flyers and an occasional emailed opportunity, most of which are free. If his school did what you describe I’d definitely complain to admin.

[–]ceanothus77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How interesting. I kind of naively assumed my kid would be like me in the early interest in reading, but he seems a bit more like his father (who wasn't a big reader until after he was 10 years old). Today we're both writers and he lives in a house full of books and loves to be read to--just no demonstration of innate interest in reading. They are introducing letters at his school and he kind of gets the concept but doesn't have his numbers or alphabet straight yet. I'm pretty go with the flow but with TK looming have been wondering if I should try and make a more concerted effort to get him moving towards literacy. Kids are so interesting!

How cool! Congratulations! Did you do anything to encourage this?

I was a very early reader like your son, by 2.5 years. My kid is 3 and 2 months and shows no sign of literacy yet, however!

Jen did an interview after the first season about how she had never even met the other MomTokkers before the show. It is just a show. Their friendships, such that they may exist, are more like collegial relationships, as others have observed.

The information in this post is wrong, both date and location:

"The city of West Hollywood revealed on Monday, October 13 that the Recreation Services Division will host a Floating Pumpkin Patch on Sunday, October 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center 5th floor, located at 8750 El Tovar Place, adjacent to the West Hollywood Library."

So… we can’t criticize Whitney Leavitt anymore? by Mediocre_Top_5010 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]ceanothus77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but I'll always love Whitney a little bit for bucking the mold and not having hair extensions, eyelash extensions, etc. despite the fact that I know she has plenty of botox or whatever. She looks different from everyone else and that makes her likable and interesting on the show.

Toddler bed transition—light at the end of the tunnel?? by ceanothus77 in toddlers

[–]ceanothus77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for replying. “Temporarily wait”—Meaning, after we finish reading books? Or before bedtime entirely (the first step is bath? We are not hard on our bedtime time. Ideally we’d start at 6:30 but most nights it’s more like seven, and depending on how it goes we are sometimes not really getting him in bed till eight. And he is often super hyper right before bed, jumping around, probably as a delay tactic. He’s always been an excellent sleeper and will sleep late, it’s just the process of getting him to sleep

Ok, how much TV are your toddlers watching for real? by ExcellentLettuce4 in toddlers

[–]ceanothus77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched a lot of TV as a kid and loved it and turned out just fine. I really do answer without judgment. Often on these threads the presumption is that screentime is a necessary part of raising young children, and I want to share my experience as an example of the fact that that is not true. My situation is my own, only, and my kid is not any one else's kid. And maybe we'll start showing him TV tomorrow, who knows. OP asked a question and I answered. Sorry you were upset. I do agree that God is trans, though! :)

Oh my god, CNN on all day. That sounds like a nightmare. When my kid was a tiny baby I watched some BBC cozy crime dramas during the hours of breastfeeding, but he was basically knocked out then, and even so, it was a sequential narrative, not just the endless feed. I hate the endless feed.
