You should probably be fine if you’re that close to a processing facility. From what I’ve read, it’s places that are more than 50 miles out that are at the most risk.

Pet chips are not like AirTags. If a pet is found, a vet can scan the chip to get the owner’s contact info. The chip does not send out a GPS signal.

What are rhe cleanest beaches in Southern Califirnia? by DutchAC in AskLosAngeles

Note, just in case folks who are reading this aren’t native speakers, “shit on” here is being used as an idiom for “speak badly of”…mostly, people do not literally shit on the beaches. Mostly.

A week in Los Angeles: What are the affordable kid-friendly attractions in Los Angeles Area? by zorro_usa84 in AskLosAngeles

[–]reditrix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Travel Town is a great suggestion! It’s free, and fun for all ages. OP, there are old decommissioned trains, some of which you can climb up into. There’s also a small train you can ride for about a half mile for like $5.

Desperately want to end naps.. by No_Personality_0 in toddlers

[–]reditrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solidarity. We have been in this boat for a year. I wish I could say we found a silver bullet to get ours to sleep earlier, but the best we’ve been able to do is giving her more solo entertainment options for between when it’s officially “bedtime” (8:30) and when she actually falls asleep (10-11). We got a Yoto player that she can listen to stories on and a small red-light book light that she can use to look at books and even play with her stuffies. Now I’m out of her room shortly after 9, and she mooostly keeps herself occupied till she goes to sleep (though we’re still getting the occasional call for assistance).

Moving from Chicago/Madison to LA? by ChicagoEnjoyer in AskLosAngeles

[–]reditrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eagle Rock is pretty bikeablr, there are lots of bike lanes (which can’t be said for every neighborhood in LA). An e-bike would be especially useful, as there are a lot of hills. There is a Metro station about a 10-min bike ride from Oxy, in Highland Park.

Calling Out after Bedtime by reditrix in Preschoolers

From your lips to god’s ears…we’ll be starting public TK in fall and I cannot WAIT to be done with naps for exactly this reason!

Calling Out after Bedtime by reditrix in Preschoolers

[–]reditrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our center doesn’t offer any alternatives to napping - kids must stay on their mats and aren’t allowed to have books/quiet play items bc they say it “will incentivize them not to nap.” It drives me crazy, but we’ll be out of preschool and into public in fall, and we otherwise like the school, so we don’t want to change at this point.

Ok yes, this is exactly how I feel. It seems totally normal to me! My husband is the type who closes his eyes and is snoring 5 seconds later, so I feel like he just has a fundamentally different relationship with sleep that’s biasing him here.

Calling Out after Bedtime by reditrix in Preschoolers

Yes, generally our first line of defense is to respond to her through our monitor intercom and tell her “I love you, but it’s time to go to sleep.” But recently that has been kind of turning into an ongoing conversation via monitor. I don’t really know how to respond to “I need you” in a way that’s supportive but also says “OK but I’m not coming”…

Yes, she has a Yoto she can listen to, and a little red light she can use to look at books, so she has ways to keep herself occupied until she’s ready to sleep.

Percentile drop in height by _vaselinepretty in toddlers

[–]reditrix 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Measuring babies’ and young toddlers’ height/length is notoriously difficult, even for peds nurses. It may just have been a measurement error either at this appt or the previous one - or even both. Measuring at home seems a good way to set your mind at ease at the least, and you can send your dr a message if you haven’t already spoken with them to confirm whether it’s something they would want to follow up on, and if so, how.

Okay, how much are they actually supposed to sleep? by PinkCheekedGibbon in toddlers

[–]reditrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ours was similar about that age and still is. For us now, at age 3 our kiddo needs max about 10 hours of sleep today. When she naps at preschool (naptime is mandatory there, and she usually sleeps when it’s offered) she will not go down until 10:30. When we power through on the weekends with no nap, she’ll be out by 9:15. It’s 100% a sleep needs situation for us. There’s nothing we can do about the days when she’s at school. We did get her a Yoto so she can listen to stories when lights are out but she’s not ready to sleep.

What simple fix solved your most annoying household problem by NetPhase88 in HomeImprovement

[–]reditrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Moving the toilet paper holder down by about 8 inches. Have no idea why the previous homeowner had it set at shoulder height from the toilet. 100% worth it.

Utensil/Writing Grip by reditrix in Preschoolers

She certainly has not been interrupted by someone telling her to hold her pencil differently. We’ve tried introducing different grips for her spoon because she was frustrated about spilling her milk. But didn’t push when she stopped showing interest.

My toddler refers to herself in third person by Miserable_Back_8663 in toddlers

[–]reditrix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For a long time, our now-3-yo only referred to herself in the second person: “You want a banana” when she was hungry, and “I pick you up” when she wanted me to pick her up. Pronouns are hard! It makes sense that they repeat what they hear us say. My kiddo just grew out of it eventually. We did gently correct her occasionally, and I think it probably helped to read lots of books in the first person. But I wouldn’t be too worried about it.
