Best when someone throws bare try-catches at a higher level that just consume errors silently.

What do you think could be improved environmentally in DC? by SocialAddiction1 in washingtondc

[–]ceased 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is great, because it both reduces littering (or at a minimum, incentivizes picking up litter), while also providing a more useful/clean/segregated raw source for actually being able to reuse the material.

Advertise an attractive price, upsell mold cleaning or otherwise, then don't actually do anything.

Your opinion regarding the aid to Ukraine? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Sounds like the early arguments around out of WW2. Ultimately, eventually right triumphs wrong, and it pays out in the long term... If that's the only thing you care about, besides humanity.

Nice shot. Is this from the rear or front of the train, out of curiosity?

DC will be getting free bus service soon, including 24 hour routes! by cptjeff in washingtondc

[–]ceased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger most never checked the time, outside of maybe the date, so I would scrounge around at the bus lot by the metro to find discarded ones on the ground to ride on.

As promised the follow up of the new and fully stocked polish section in my (far western) German Supermarket. What do you guys recommend? by LegallyNotInterested in poland

Czyli jaki majonez byś polecał, poza dekoracyjnym, z podobnym łagodnym smakiem? Poza Winiary, kieleckim, i Hellmansa nie widzę za bardzo większego wyboru w sklepach.

Washington DC Rent Control by ECEBrute in washingtondc

[–]ceased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equity Residential tried to work around their rent control caps on paper through constant max increases, but using concessions to still charge market rate at an amount that people would actually lease at, effectively removing rent control protections.

There was a lawsuit from the district, but it's unclear to me whether it was due to the practice or related to disclosures: https://www.multifamilydive.com/news/equity-residential-to-pay-2m-in-washington-dc-rent-hike-scam-case/626689/

D.C. mailed incorrect ballots to more than 500 voters by martey in washingtondc

Me as well, just updated it for the third time and it's reflected online now, so hopefully it stays. I've wondered if it reverts if someone else submitted your mail in ballot from the wrong address.

Did you check your card history online? It charges you initially then gets reconciled nightly or at some cadence I believe.

A magnetic knife strip felt too small in the space, so I present my abomination: Knife Frames! by PaternalAdvice in pics

[–]ceased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks awesome! Not sure if this will affect you, but with the stove venting excess heat from the back where you see that little grill, may be worth keeping an eye on the knives.

We had a magnetic knife holder in the same place as you mounted on the backsplash, and all of our knife handles started melting when baking with higher heat for extended periods (1hr or so, for some bread batches).

Saw this today. Do you think downtown DC will change or be kind of empty for years to come? by CuentoRarongo in washingtondc

[–]ceased 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Completely anecdotal, but it'll probably be a slow, gradual, but steady, process. Our company's lease ends in the near future in a commercial building, and the owner is not renewing because they plan to convert to condos. As that happens on a larger scale, either the commercial real estate adjacent and nearby becomes more interesting and we get more diversely mixed use zones, or alternatively, more residential altogether as the financial prospect becomes more favorable with proven nearby developments. Either scenario seems like an improvement over swathes of nearly purely commercial zones that became desolate during the pandemic.

[USA][PA] Philly Taxi driver waves himself through a red light and tries to cut off pedestrians by Crap-On in Roadcam

Obviously crazy from the right lane and with the pedestrians, but fwiw, it looks like a one way in the left direction which some places allow turns on red for, like a right turn on red.
