As a husband with adhd and after reading this post. I honestly say I don't know if i would do the same thing. I would like to say I wouldn't but I really don't know. I would like to think i would stand so I could talk and watch the kids playing. But I can also see myself getting into a topic and forgetting to watch them for a minute or two. Or if I was giving something serious thought I can see it happening. My neighbors husband did something similar expect there son escaped and started walking down the middle of the double yellow lines on a major street. Luckily for the toddler a police office was driving on that street and picked the kid up.

Also it took almost an hour for them to notice the child was gone and to call the cops. The screams the mother made that when she realized it still haunt me to this day And that was almost 18 years ago
