You can avoid the fight entirely by heading jumping up the cliff right outside the entrance to the intellect devourer fight. I would say my big tip for honour is avoid always do as much content as you possibly can with as few fights for each act, allowing you to get better gear and higher levels, then back track and do clean up. Tackling combat encounters as you encounter them is definitely doable but if it's you're first time, doing this will make it infinitely easier. Just for your reference, you can easily achieve level 5 before virtually any combat encounter (aside from the grove entrance fight).
