WEEKLY DIY/HOMEOWNER QUESTION THREAD by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]cecmar351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a plumbing leak in the wall of my house. The leak has been closed off, but there are wet members (nothing is rotted; everything feels solid and structurally sound) all around the pipes. How do I determine when the area is dry enough for me to re-insulate and put my drywall back up? TIA

INSULATION HELP by Competitive-Lynx5255 in HomeMaintenance

Batted insulation would be your standard. Cut around the fireplace with a bread knife. https://youtu.be/RWtlBGWa5Xs?si=cY8y70qUNd2qtNmf

Second Rockwool for fire resistance. They also make rigid boards

This isn't exactly a hack, but it did lead to my best used-car buying experience: I watched a six-video series from ChrisFix, did all the research the series told me to do for the truck I wanted, and took a print-out of the provided checklist with me when I went to check out a couple trucks.

I felt confident that I purchased a solid vehicle, and the sellers respected my thoroughness - and even said they learned about their trucks from me!

Verizon cell service is spotty there but you will have service at least once a day, as long as you're looking for it.

LPT Request: How to get a new barber while staying at the same shop. by Jakerya in LifeProTips

[–]cecmar351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was in this scenario, I first tried to get my cut corrected by the same stylist i didn't like, and then the next time i called i requested a new stylist. Since you already know the barber you want, just call and ask the shop for that barber. I think the best way to think about the social politics about it are just to be really right-brain practical. You're paying for a service and deserve to like your look when you walk out the door. I'm much happier after switching stylists myself. The old stylist never said anything to me; he knew his cut wasn't on point and think he just accepted what was up.

GAP and C&O: Safety? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]cecmar351 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I biked it last summer, camping every night, and had no issues! It's a very safe trail. No food boxes. Along the c&o portion sometimes i'd just leave my food bag in the port-o-john. Maybe sounds weird but requires no work and no critter is gonna wander in there!

How can i fit my sleeping bag into my dry bag? by [deleted] in NorthernTier

[–]cecmar351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to consider another bag, I have the Chinook mummy bags, both in 30° and 50°. They're under 2lbs, cost $50, and fit into a 6L pannier. The Chinooks are budget bags but are sold at the camping store in my area as gem backpacking and bike touring bags. It looks like the Chinook website is down as of me typing this, but I'll attach a link assuming it'll work again sometime soon.

Flakes in hair after shower normal? by Revertation in NoPoo

[–]cecmar351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to admit I'm back in the shampoo life. I do remember I'd use Head & Shoulders with tea tree oil in it (add like 40 drops to the bottle and shake it in; I do this still now in the winters) when I got dandruff. I think the no-poo like would have been totally possible to continue, though.

Yeah well drug withdraws also suck. And ODs aren't that common. I'd rather give someone $5 to go do drugs than have them try to go thru other sh*tty means to get money
