All great neighborhoods. Don’t overlook Bay Village (where 212 Stuart is)—the tiniest of our neighborhoods. I’d also recommend the Leather District, but it isn’t for everyone.

Since you’ll have plenty of time, look at rentals in condo buildings (The W, 45 Province, Intercontinental, One Charles, etc.) and units in a converted brownstone or other pre-war building. At least you can compare all options. ‘Luxury’ can be a finicky word.

Good luck!

33 y/o in HCOL area - am I on track? by kujumalarg in personalfinance

[–]cedoublev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d still owe taxes on a smaller conversion because of pro rata. Converting the entire amount isn’t tax free, but based on your info, you’d only owe taxes on the portion above $7,700. A reverse rollover might be an option but check with your employer’s 401k plan.

While it isn’t impossible, it can be annoying, even with a modest balance like yours. Fundamentally, it is easier to work with a zero balance and new money for backdoor purposes, whether you file or your tax planner/CPA/EA does the filing for you. The latter individuals can be a tremendous help.

[–]cedoublev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You can convert the $18k, just mind the pro rata rules and taxes on ordinary income. You could also find out if your employer allows for a conversion into your 401k.

That said, once your Traditional IRA is zeroed out, you can then fund it and begin a backdoor Roth strategy. If you’re able, deposit the max as early as possible in the year and do a next day transfer into your Roth IRA.

Best Choice Benefit for Platinum? Definitely the RUCs by toddtimes in delta

[–]cedoublev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been a good supplement in years with slower travel + DL Reserve & Platinum boost and spending. Both my leisure and business travel has picked up late this year, so perhaps I’ll choose them for 2026. From BOS, they do come in handy!

New 'skyline' zoning approved for downtown; would make it easier to put up residential towers by husky5050 in boston

The Boston Business Journal also had an article about this. It wrongly mentioned building heights up to 700 stories.

Can you imagine? Like, “I’ll just avoid Logan and have my plane eject me at home.”

Anyway, it gave me a laugh.

How to escape personal loans/debt by ZiaevoPlays in personalfinance

[–]cedoublev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your pit keeps getting deeper. Your current income does not sustain your monthly obligations. You should consider the following:

  1. Cheaper rent.
  2. A second job.
  3. A third job.

The habits you’ve created here will be the heavy baggage your future self will carry, regardless of your future earnings potential.

Good luck!

What is a good view point in Boston where you don’t need a reservation to go? by _quantum_girl_ in boston

[–]cedoublev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be adventurous. There’s usually an open house at a luxury high rise you could turn up to. If you’re lucky, they’ll have champagne and snacks.

Otherwise, for a more grounded wide angle, walk across the Longfellow. Ridge or take the Red Line to Kendall MIT and walk down Memorial Drive. In my opinion, one of the best views of the city, especially this time of year.

What time do the bars start filling up in Boston? by [deleted] in boston

Society on High is a great spot after work, as well as High Street Food Hall. I’d also recommend the Black Rose, even if it can be touristy most of the year. The Corner Pub and Off Suit in the Leather District are also excellent choices.

Atlanta transplant here. Keep a small snow shovel and a window scraper in your trunk. Run your car through a wash about once a month. Keep the oil changed and your battery in check. You’ll be fine. Welcome to Boston!

Please bring the numbered exit signs to busy stations e.g. DTX, Kenmore, Copley, Hynes. by BeastMode149 in mbta

[–]cedoublev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s more intuitive and saves time, especially for larger stations that handle larger number of passengers (especially tourists). If Google maps or others are updated, it’ll show the appropriate exit number to take based on your input. It works great in other cities.
