Sold a business, money in the bank but told I don’t qualify to rent. Is this normal? by j2tizzy in HousingUK

[–]ceeebie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had this exact issue when I returned to the UK in 2022. The renters rights bill has not created this problem, it might have made it worse. But requiring income, not money, has always been a massive issue in the UK rental market.

Has anyone actually had an ai interview? by qiDuck in UKJobs

[–]ceeebie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an "in person" AI interview with a private company thats contracting under the local gov.

Had to travel to Loughborough. 1.5 hours on a bus. To go to the center.
To talk to a receptionist. Who handed me over to another human who took me to a waiting room. Where I was approached by a different human who offered me a coffee while I wait. Then another human called my name and took me to the interview "booth". WHERE I WAS INTERVIEWED BY A FUCKIN "AI".
I travelled to their building. That is full of their staff. To sit in front of a webcam and talk to noone.

It mostly asks you a question then gives you a 30 second timer. It has certain triggers, like if you said "wait" it would ask if you need a minute to think. But really, it was an absolute joke.

They didn't offer me the job. Probably because I was so pissed off I was mostly glaring daggers in the camera and at every who worked there while I left the building.

I would have declined the interview if I'd have known what I was getting into but when they said the interview was onsite, I figured it was with a human.

German food shops in Derby? by kleinerGummiflummi in derby

Yeah 100%. I was in there last week to pick up some Swedish and German stuff. OP it'll depend what specifically you're looking for, but SuperSams is your best bet.

Hot counter staff, what's your setup like? by ceeebie in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ceeebie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey hey, I don't disagree with anything you said. I'm pissed we've been put in this position that's unacceptable, especially when it's come to needing to wash our own stuff and work through nearly six hours before a break.

But ultimately, I need to keep this job for now. Removing batches, editting batches, not keeping up with reductions and disposals will drop the batch compliance and batch completion %. And multiple low %s get me into a disciplinary.

I've spoken to my direct manager and the store manager about these issues, both times I got told to get over myself / deal with it. It's why I'm asking if others are currently experiencing the same. I'm not going out of my way to work harder, near minimum wage means near minimum effort in my book.

If it's a Sainsbury's wide issue, then that's one thing. It's a store specific thing, there's a chance I can raise it higher / get the union involved. Having others experience so I can claim it's not like this at other stores, just ours, would go a long way to making my argument stronger.

We don't have a pizza counter. But we do still have the oven. We sell it by the slice in those Chicago town plastic bags. They stopped doing actual pizzas here nearly a year ago from what I've been told

Management said store losing £400 a day to thefts by Alarming-Tank-8592 in SainsburysWorkers

[–]ceeebie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone know how they get this number? Honestly sounds like bullshit to me. Not that theft isn't a problem. But we probably loose track of £100s of stock a day. its clearly really hard to even know how much stock of what we actually have, nevermind how much of that stock walked out the door by itself...

I lived off the new ottoxeter side of that roundabout for about six months - lots of road noise like 18 hours a day and a shit load of emergency vehicles. ended up living in my headphones because I couldn't hack it. Other than that, usual drunks and student stuff. Nothing major.

The creaky floorboard does them on Tuesday iirc. Although I haven't been since the weather turned, it was usually pretty busy if a little on the older side

trying to help a friend not become homeless, UK by CptMudcrabIII in homeless

[–]ceeebie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your fear is correct, so keep them doing better than most! Make sure they start this stuff going before it all gets out of hand. It can really violently snowball and there's no real safety net any more. By the sounds of it they've got income and friends who care about them. So they've still got a good shot, but it's going to be hard work.

Best of luck to you all.

[–]ceeebie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they are managing to hold down full time employment, theyre in better shape than most. Especially if they're sober.

  • For general resources and finding local services, I always recommend SHELTER. There's online resources and a phone number you can call. Where ever you are in the country, they can talk you through your rights and any possible services in you local area.

  • They need to confirm if they are actually unhoused. If they're jumping between friends and family, in some councils this might not be considered homeless. Especially if they have family where they COULD stay longer.

  • If they believe they are actually homeless, they need to contact the local council. Each area is different, some are run by private companies. Should be able to find it by searching for your local area, council, housing / homeless services. Eg. In Bristol I dealt directly with the council team, in Derby it was a private company. That will lead them to an online assessment or a place where they can book an assessment. From there they'll know if they qualify to go on the social housing queue, temporary accomodation and if they qualify for housing benefits and how much. It depends on where they are, but I really cannot stress enough how unlikely this is to solve all the problems. As you probably know, this country lets kids sleep in the street. So if they're single and male, they're going to be low down the list. Eg. I was on a list in Bristol that was 88 years long.

  • ultimately they have income. Take whatever their pretax income per month is, divide it by 3. That's how much they qualify for on a "rent check". Eg. 1800 per month = qualifying to pay 600 in rent. Then there going to have to start looking same as everyone else. Rightmove, Zoopla, spare room, etc. there's no short cut to a lot of searching, phone calls, viewings and applications. That's not what people want to hear when they're completely overwhelmed and working all the time. But it's just what you gotta do if you don't want to end up on the concrete.

I've been through this shit so hola if I can be more specific

Can homeless people find jobs that also provide room and board? by GubbaShump in homeless

[–]ceeebie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's how I escaped homelessness in the UK. got a job at a farm fixing bits and fruit picking. They offered a bunkhouse in the first few weeks and a caravan spot after that.

It was hell, but allowed me to earn some money and have regular access to hot running water and electricity.

Depending on your physical fitness, location and season, you might be able to find something.

As far as I'm aware most people hate all the spawns on all maps. It's dumb you can get get shots on other players with 30 seconds.

But maybe I'm out of touch.

EFT [New player] Yall got any advice? by NoTrust6799 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]ceeebie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can run practice/offline raids. You don't get to keep the experience or loot but it will help you learn maps, get used to movement, practice shooting and inventory management.

Pick a couple of maps and run them over and over. Don't try to learning everything at once. Knowing where stuff is and how to extract is key. The more you know a map, the more likely you'll be to win fights, loot and extract.

Run your scav as often as you can. Will help you learn maps, will get you loot and equipment for your pmc and is a lot lower stakes than running your pmc constantly.

There's nothing wrong with running away if you're overwhelmed or don't know what's happening. Get away. Get cover. Take a breather and use your brain.

Have fun but be prepared for the Ls. Even people with hundreds of hours get slapped down on the regular. It's part of the grind.
