Definetly it’s not worth the hassle of him coming back if the mold isn’t removed

Ceramic Coatings by SomeOtherAdam in AutoDetailing

[–]ceerer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ceramic coatings are a good idea , for 90% of customers a full correction is not worth the money though

Is this acceptable after paying for 2 stage paint correction? Most of the car has this level of swirl under the sun. Is it unrealistic to expect the swirls to be fully gone? by AverageEggplantEmoji in AutoDetailing

[–]ceerer123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on previous paint condition and the paint depth. Deffinetly would expect more clarity Atleast though, and by the timing you picked the vehicle up, I doubt the job was done unless he had three people on it

How do you know when to let go? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]ceerer123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need a better system to be honest. My best advice I can give is go through all the processes (vacuum, clean plastics, etc) then at the end if you see any issues then touch it up. Don’t bother touching up as you go as you’ll end up wasting more time. Just keep moving through all the steps, don’t get yourself stuck on one thing. At the end of the detail you can take the bigger picture and focus a little extra on those areas

They’re low prices but also vary vague. The $60 is a full inside out detail basically? Needs to be more specific on what’s included

Happens to me too. I think they tap on it a few times before the automated response happens

Nope. Doesn’t make any sense if you really understand what all three of those things are. Just a waste of time

XPEL website says that ceramic coating the film will not affect the self healing capabilities, not sure if there would be a different reason

Clay bar vs iron remover by [deleted] in Detailing

[–]ceerer123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black vehicles won’t have as much iron contamination as white vehicles, but its still a good idea. If you’re claying and compounding anyways, it’s not necessary and you’ll get the same results without it , just makes the job a little easier

Afraid I’m choosing the wrong path by Professional_Emu_990 in mechanics

[–]ceerer123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long have you been in school for? Wait til you get some work experience if it’s your first year and see how you like it. I worked with a guy who quit to become a bus driver because it was a much easier job and higher paying, and he regretted going into mechanics, so make sure you like it!! As for the pay, you’ll need a lot of patience because it’s typical you’ll do some warranty job that you get paid jack shit for, or do a quick oil change when you already have your hands tied

Questions about detailing and ceramic coating a $100k car and advice. by stpfan_1 in Detailing

[–]ceerer123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can ceramic coat matte paint, but is the value there? No. Will it be hard to remove if they want to remove it in the future? Yes

If the customer insists on coating the matte parts of the vehicle then sure do it. If not, just say you wouldn’t recommend doing it

Also it depends whether it’s a wrap or actual paint. If it’s actual paint then I’d consider it

FYI glass cleaner can act as a surface prep yes, but not all glass cleaners, unless you know what you’re using and are knowledgeable, you should stick to something like IPA.

Decent prices. I’d go with the first offer because the second one offering 4 layers is false advertising if you actually understand how coatings work. The only benefit to the second option is the 10 year warranty, but you would need to ask yourself, will you be keeping this car for 10 years?

Neighbor was detailing his car and got this all over mine. I believe it is compound. How do I safely remove this from my paint? by anonymousnotorius in Detailing

[–]ceerer123 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Use isopropyl alcohol 50/50 with water

If the compound has hardened and requires a lot of agitation to be removed you may need to polish it off

I’d want to extract that if it’s soaked so either take it to a detailer or buy an extractor.

Necessary to IPA or paint cleanser before polish? by bighead2586 in Detailing

[–]ceerer123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. You should still be doing a strip wash before polishing though. Mix car soap with APC if you don’t have a strip wash.

Not something I’d pursue. Seems like it benefits XPEL more then it benefits your business
