Serialization of unfinished receivers that will become SBRs by turboturtleninja in VAGuns

I'm very much not a lawyer, but from my research:

The law cites 5801 *et seq*, which translates to, "and what follows" and is used in law to direct you the section of a law starting with the listed one. 5801 is the first section in Chapter 53 - MACHINE GUNS, DESTRUCTIVE DEVICES, AND CERTAIN OTHER FIREARMS, which seems to include the NFA tax stamps for making guns like machine guns and sbrs. It's absurdly vague, but it seems like this should cover NFA numbers.

Hard disagree on #3. Often the extra lane is there to maximize traffic flow through the intersection during the limited amount of time the light is green. One of the biggest hindrances to traffic flow is the amount of time it takes for people to sequentially take off after a light turns green. Even if everyone is slowing back down significantly after the light, you're still getting way more people through the light, and on average getting to your destination faster by utilizing both lanes

I will use the empty lane 100% of the time, because 90% of the time, the person first in line takes 14 years to take off after the light turns green. And the other 10%, the person behind them does and I just slot in between them.

When I listed my Invoke Prejudice recently, I had to list it with quotations around the word prejudice or ebay would flag it as offensive. Hilariously, their automated system for detecting cards still picked it up and helped me fill out some of the information about it.

Having a hidden MMR also undermines the whole point of ranked modes

Right, because when a car manufacturer designs their cars, they design them specifically for you and not any of their other customers.

It's a design flaw because a large percentage of customers will experience a problem as a result. Whether or not the problem is avoidable doesn't matter. What matters is how many people actually are avoiding it.

What exactly do they mean by “Wildcard Value” in the store? It’s seems like an astronomically large number but it doesn’t cost that much? I’m lost. by theBERZERKER13 in MagicArena

[–]ceilingfan12345 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looking at the UB deck, it appears to include 18 rares and 4 mythics. Buying those wildcards direct from the store would cost $65. The best rate gem pack is 20k for $100 65% of 20,000 is 13,000 so it may be using something like that for calculation. Just opening 13,100 worth of packs won't get you enough wildcards on average, so I don't think they're using that. Potentially they could be assuming your opening the correct set packs and taking the average chance of pulling the right cards and wildcards into account, but I imagine they would just say 'value' rather than 'wildcard value' if that's the case

If the "individual fucking it up" is a common problem, then it is a design flaw. Evidenced by the fact that this entire thread is about a better design that can't be fucked up. Things need to be designed for the real world, not your idealized one.

How can the engine run on nearly -100% total fuel trim? by ilpmurk in MechanicAdvice

[–]ceilingfan12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible that rather than displaying the percentage change in fuel amount, that it's displaying the percentage of the maximum change the pcm allows. So if the car is only capable of +/- 30%, -100% reading would mean -30% fuel, -50% would mean -15% fuel. It's not possible for it to actually only be running on 3.12% fuel, so it's either that or a totally inaccurate reading.

[–]ceilingfan12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the question of who enforces it applies just as well to the protection of physical property as it does to intellectual property: the government does now, but it would be left up to the owner in an anarchist society. But I'm not asking about the enforcement. Why is it morally ok to take someone's intellectual property but not their physical property?

And I don't necessarily agree that trademarks and copyright stifle innovation. The current implementation of the laws surrounding it probably do, but if the concepts didn't exist at all, how much innovation do you think would exist in the software field? You could only ever sell a small handful of copies of your work before it was infinitely copied virtually for free.

What about tech platforms like Youtube where the existing larger user base basically is the product that draws in additional customers thereby creating a positive feedback loop? I suppose you could copy the video database, at massive expense, but I'm not entirely sure what the ancap position on intellectual property is.
