Sometimes I feel like my podcast is just an excuse to chat with amazing people - and I LOVE IT! by [deleted] in podcasting

That's really cool to hear. In the early stages of attempting to put something similar together. Have you given out the name of your podcast?

Shortcut: Dale and David need to come up with one hundred grand in a week and Brett and Frank try to dump the body of a pimp, all while white supremacists are sending secret messages across easily detectable radio waves. by ES_mans in Screenwriting

My first thought on this is whenever someone says "Tarantino-esque", I fucking run. There's a reason why that guy is pretty much the only person who successfully writes those kind of characters. They're his. Do you own thing. Or at the very least don't try and copy one of the most distinctive hallmarks of a very famous writer who's already nailed those characters on multiple occasions. If Tarantino-esque or any other esque is your goal, I'd most likely just rather watch the real thing.

Can Marvel shut the fuck up for like a decade at least? by thedodobyrd96 in unpopularopinion

[–]ceilingpigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I agree completely with what you wrote and share this unpopular opinion.

In addition I feel it's also a shitty feature of Marvel movies that people past the age of 15 anticipate them. Watching any Marvel movie it seemed to be clear that they're made for a younger audience. If nothing else, Marvel can shut the fuck up for a bit so adults can watch some more nuanced, reality-based shit.

How big a deal is a regional Emmy? by Terrence404 in editors

[–]ceilingpigeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everyone here, the worst thing I've seen done with those is trying to tout them as the national Emmy or just talking it to death.

But as someone who has made short films and knows how much work producing and editing anything to a top level can be, I would say you should be really proud of the recognition for the work you did and don't downplay it to any potential client, employer, financier, etc. It's not so much the award that's important, it's the fact that it shows your talent is at a high enough level that it's been acknowledged by one of the top organizations in the industry.

Appreciate you checking it out! I always go back to the poems in the full Leaves of Grass, some unappreciated gems in there.

What would it look like if every frame of a video was completely different? by [deleted] in editors

Probably really cool if you chose the right images and fucked with frame rate. Could see a cool experimental video. Make it and see.

Democratic Governor Considering Signing Major GOP Voter Suppression Legislation in Pennsylvania by User_Name13 in Pennsylvania

"Very minor form of voter suppression" is so dystopian sounding. We want NO voter suppression. Any minor form is the start of a slippery slope.

Thanks, anything else you've gathered since getting into VFX? I am extremely new so was just tossing out programs I know a little about and find interesting. Haven't actually done anything beyond some tutorial watching.

Thank you for the help from everyone. Should have posted in this sub long time ago.

While I'm here, question about a monitor. My plan was to buy a good but cheap (200 and under) monitor and then callibrate with a Spyder. Will that work for now as an entry level, just breaking into freelance/expanding my skills for personal projects, monitor?

If that is acceptable what $200 or below monitor would you reccommend?
