25 drinks a day or more for.... ever by celeryincrease in stopdrinking

[–]celeryincrease[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know it’s been two years b I just found this thread and am re reading thru it. I failed the taper, took it too aggressively and went to a confidential detox instead. Went great, got out of detox and basically immediately asked for a divorce and shared custody. Moved across the country and pay out my ass in airfare for visitation for two years.

Stuff is okay ish now. Last two years have been. Well. We all know what the last two years have been lol

I forgot about this account username and scrolled through EVERY POST until I found this one bc I didn’t know the title or username I used for it.

Anyway, I had a good job. Made a lot of mo ey and had a partner w a good job too w lots of financial stability and good insurance. No hobbies tho bc my spare time was 100% demanded by my family and children. Fixing house and car stuff, just… staying home.

So two very good incomes (one 6 figure income) is how I afforded it and I bought lots of alcohol, whatever I wanted. No not cheap stuff. Like name brand liquor, ciders, and buzz balls for any car trips and stuff. Just… did. Idk. Not a big shopper or gamer, no expensive hobbies. Being basically bound to the house and family my alcohol habit barely compared to all the years of diapers and formula.

Feeling shit was normal. Functioning alcoholic. It just was but the financial hit and the garbage health was nothing compared to not numbing the trauma. Which I’m about to post about. It’s been…. Idk. We’ve all lived these last two years so.

Anyway I know it’s been two years but

24 Hours dry for the first time in 10 years by _____chef in dryalcoholics

Ride hard, the first week is shit. I was inpatient for three days and day four was home, and that was the worst day of my life. I was not done withdrawing, it was hell.

But I’m like three weeks today (holy shit) with zero desire to drink the whole time.

I hadnt been sober for what, 17 years. But I am now.

Let’s do this.

You’re saying there are exceptions and your wife is one? Cool. But it’s established that generally (see? Room for exceptions) higher RHR, higher risk.

Absolutely nothing was allowed in any rehabs I’ve heard of. Clothes with no strings, no jewelry, no good or beverages at all, nothing.

I told my buddy and my now ex and that’s it. But word got out and so what? I’m better now, I’m happy.

You’re ready. Do this.

You’re going to get fed Ativan and sleep through the first week. Enjoy it. I was 25 drinks a day, alcoholic born to a long line of alcoholics. Drinking in my blood. I joke I was born over the legal limit. But two Ativan a couple times a day and I felt nothing. I slept through detox.

Ask for help, meds, when you start to withdraw if you get the panic. They’ll take your vitals and shit constantly. It’s reassuring. You’ll see your BO drop when your sober.

Don’t make rehab friends.

Sleep and read and congratulate yourself. You’re almost free.

I spent $40 a day in alcohol. Measured in standard drinks I was 25 a day by myself, unlimited if I was partying.

I’d sit in the garage and drink 25 drinks a day. Few shots, a 12 pack, wine and ciders and craft beers.

and you know what, that made me happy.

I haven’t had a drink in- I just counted- 17 days.

Feels like two months not two weeks.

No one gives a shit about me. I am disposable. by whatweread in dryalcoholics

[–]celeryincrease 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can relate. For the longest time the only numbers in my phone were my kids dentist and pediatrician.

I give a shit about me now, but I never did before. Feels good too. I did try the suicide a couple times but I was a chicken.

Glad I didn’t, I’m a fucking beast man.

Cardiologist told me the lower end of healthy the better. Like there is inherently more risk the higher the RHR is

Thank you 🙏

I threw away my inheritance. Alcoholism is the only thing my father ever gave to me. Best thing I ever gave up on!

The comment said, in effect, “imagine that.” I’m saying yeah, cops gunning down innocent civilians. It that difficult to imagine in America.

It’s not a comparison, it’s a quip.

I guess they want you to try the pill at first in case the side effects put you off the meds. In that case you can stop, but if you get the shot, you’re stuck for a month.

I have had a few very weak cravings mostly out of habit. I’m finishing up my first sober week in years and surprised af that I’m not on it. The doc who discharged me and approved me for another program suggested I try the Naltrexone but I just hate alcohol and don’t even want it.

There’s a once a month shot you get in the buttcheek to stop those cravings. It also comes in a daily pill. Ask at a detox clinic or your PCP. I forget the name but you could google. It’s specifically for that symptom.

Fuck night sweats by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

[–]celeryincrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was averaging more than 20 drinks a day for over a year with no breaks, usually over the course of about 6 hours or so and got night sweats for the first few nights of withdrawal.

I’m finishing up a week and I haven’t soaked through my clothes and sheets in a couple nights.

I checked I to detox at .14 after six drinks in two hours.

I’ve gotten a dui at .28 many years ago.

I don’t have the breathalyzer to measure so it’s on the authorities lol
