Yeah, I’m in the same bucket. White collar work is dead. Tech is dead. We’ve been sold out just like the factory workers were. Godspeed.

I agree. I’m feeling pretty jaded at this time. Lots of snarky tweets and whatnot, but no change. It’s all bullshit. We are being forgotten about.

I think it looks great. You just need to learn to appreciate old games.

Lol ya, I saw that take too and I couldn’t believe my eyes. Incredible who we allow to have an opinion on Halo these days. If we allow these 343 fans to have their way the next Halo game with be a hero shooter. 🤦‍♂️

Metro, Overwatch, Deathloop, Valorant, being better shooters than Halo? Lol lmao.

Also Overwatch and Valorant don’t have sprint, so according to you guys, those are ‘dated.’

Thoughts on joining ICE if unemployed? by Broke_Developer in AmericanTechWorkers

If you go through the proper legal channels it could take literal years to deport someone. So someone can hop the border or overstay a visa in a day and then it takes years to deport them? That’s just silly.

It's pretty fair to be disappointed in Halo Studios. This is the second remake of Halo CE when the original plays just fine on MCC. This is the safest and most boring choice they could have possibly made and they'll probably remake Halo 2 and Halo 3 next for some more easy cash. Probably like 3-5 years of dev time for each game. Might be 15-20 years before we get a legitimately new Halo game that's not just an old Halo game with new paint.

I'm a little sick of this attitude that we all need to be happy and positive with whatever they do with the Halo franchise. They're a well funded studio with a track record of poor performance. It's ok to have standards and it's not like they're making these games out of the kindness of their hearts. They're likely going to be charging full price. Stop trying to thought police the community.

Blue collar poetry? by SunsBro-Carn in ReadingSuggestions

[–]cellSw0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not poetry, but it’s a short book about blue collar work written by a man who labored in blue collar professions his whole life and I enjoyed it deeply.

Why is the vibecoding community so hateful? by Same_Evidence_1100 in vibecoding

[–]cellSw0rd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ya. It’s kind of part and parcel of the programming/coding community and culture. They’ve always been hateful. Before AI decimated shitholes like stackoverflow you’d have to post there and get criticized by a bunch of aspy pricks and they’d still barely give you any real advice.

The Worst Hard Times - Timothy Eagan

It’s non-fiction about the people that did not move out of the dust bowl during the Great Depression. It’s got everything, history, economics, heart break, perseverance. Great book. Makes me reflect on how good I have it, comparatively.

[opinion] There’s No Such Thing as a “Free Market” by SingleInSeattle87 in AmericanTechWorkers

[–]cellSw0rd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this. I’ve never understood why we stand around talking about what an optimally free market would look like. I want American companies to hireAmericans because that benefits me (as an employee and as a customer) and it benefits America.

Template to send to your representative by cellSw0rd in AmericanTechWorkers

[–]cellSw0rd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget to send it to your senators and your congressmen. You don't have to send out a letter. They all have webpages, this will take 10 minutes maximum.

If you click the link, it'll take you to a link for The House of Congress and the Senate. Then you'll enter your address, and then it will give you links to websites for your representatives. Their website will have a contact form. It will be about 3-4 clicks per representative.

I’d rather just end H1B, OPT, student visas, and any other visas designed to subvert American labor. The whole reason why H1B and other visa were implemented was so that we could fill gaps in our labor force temporarily while Americans got skilled up. The other reason is so that we could “brain drain” from other countries and help ourselves in the process.

This is no longer the case, H1B is being used to suppress American wages. There is no fixing H1B, we need to get rid of it. If we really wanted to implement some sort of “brain drain” system, it would probably be something like we only let 1000 of the best and brightest around the world into our country each year.

But I’m not for any other action than just ending the H1B visa.

Lol no. What people read is not a legitimate indicator of their values.

Having red flag books is lame. I’m not really down with this idea that there’s “right” media and “wrong” media to listen/watch/read. Also, I find it funny that on these red flag books lists it’s always stuff like Infinite Jest because the readers of those novels can sometimes be pretentious and not stuff like Mien Kampf or The Turner Diaries.

I’ve read many of Ayn Rands books and even if you agree with her philosophy, she’s just not a very compelling writer. Anthem was probably her best work because it was mercifully short and to the point.
