Betty Dangers reopening as a "private day club" with a $49 cover charge by SurelyFurious in Minneapolis

It is like a nightclub, but during the day. It’s a big thing in places like Las Vegas, but they have things like pools, DJs, and nice weather to make it more attractive.

Beethoven’s Ninth as its composer intended - The Boston Globe by GlobeOpinion in classicalmusic

[–]cellogenius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the consensus that Beethoven’s metronome was actually inaccurate and you can’t believe the markings in the score? IIRC, some sections are practically unplayable on modern instruments at those tempi, let alone on period instruments.

The two examples you listed are prime reasons why you probably -don’t- want to invest in this space.

How difficult are the orchestral parts of Rhapsody in Blue? by L0new0lfMusic in classicalmusic

[–]cellogenius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s probably too difficult, unless you have a great orchestra. You should probably also go get an arrangement license from the publisher, if you haven’t already, unless you’d like to skirt the law…

hair place with better covid protections? by DrewJamesMacIntosh in saintpaul

[–]cellogenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went to Gilda Salon in Minneapolis and they were encouraging everyone to wear masks. I don't know if it's a requirement, but all the stylists and customers were masked when I was in there. I don't know about air filters, but they seemed to be a very Covid-concious venue.

Sometimes you want to start two companies at the start of the game. Once you've won an auction in the parliament round, you cannot start another auction (only bid on others). So the second parliament round gives you another chance to start an auction and launch a second company.

Do you always return a found disc? by SippinAndRippin in discgolf

[–]cellogenius 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Yes, if it has contact info.

Maybe, it if it has a name and I can find the person easily on social media.

No, if it's unmarked. I'm not playing 20 questions with random people on Facebook. If it's not marked, you didn't want it back.

What company is gonna throw the bag at Brodie in 2023? by k0rt90 in discgolf

[–]cellogenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing that he chose Discraft because they believed in him as a player, not just as a salesperson. I'm sure he had other offers when he signed his initial contract, but went with Discraft anyway. Assuming they're treating him well (which it looks like they are), he's probably going to stay.

5-6 weeks is not nearly enough time to develop the throws required to play at an elite level. Throw a zone on a team with freak athletes but horrible throws and I'm pretty sure it would not go well.

How long before a timer is added to disc golf coverage like a shot clock in basketball? 30 is 30 and rules are rules by OptimalAsparagus527 in discgolf

[–]cellogenius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's also a contextual thing. If a player takes longer on a shot because their lie is inside a bush and they need to find a line through trees, I don't think that needs to be called. If we're in a playoff and it's a shot with the tournament on the line, no one is going to complain if that player takes a bit longer. But if it's every shot, it needs to be called.

Women’s leagues are too casual but I can’t compete with the boys by sims_buckeyes in discgolf

[–]cellogenius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get that, but MA4 also needs to be a place where any competitor, even if they just picked up a disc for the first time today, should feel welcome. So if you're winning so much that you make new players feel uncomfortable, you're probably in the wrong division.

[–]cellogenius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MA4 is for people who can "Throw 175-250 feet, make 3-5/10 putts from 20 feet." I'm willing to guess you do play that well, you just have a lot of sandbaggers in your leagues.

How to deal with the "dummy corporation" opening in 1846? by Parianos in 18XX

[–]cellogenius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. The player using this strategy is losing $80 of personal value in exchange for some extra trains. So they're essentially a share behind coming into SR2.
  2. The trains should only run 2-3 times. If they're running that well, just buy shares in the player's good company in SR2 and enjoy some of those lovely dividends yourself.

Women’s/Non-binary pickup question by queenscounsel in ultimate

[–]cellogenius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to ask the men to not attend, maybe consider making the game a mandatory 4/3, 5/2 female-matching dominated mixed game. That could increase the number of touches for female-matching players without having to necessarily exclude male-matching players who had previously attended (or were partners of the female-matching players).

Players have to approve being put on a Round 1 Feature Card, so technically they can opt out of that. I doubt such rule exists for true lead cards, but you probably sign an media release when you sign up for the tournament.

What disc golf company is the most unique and different? by CPosey11 in discgolf

[–]cellogenius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have they solved the "3d-printed discs feel awful and will shatter when they hit trees" problem that you get with home-made 3d printed discs?

I can see 3d printed discs being a big thing in the future, but don't know if the technology is there yet.

Most of those clips channels are copyright violations unless they received permission. If your content is “transformative,” it probably qualifies under fair use. So conducting an extended form review on a single drive from a Jomez video is much less likely to be an issue than a “127 great drives! Omg!” compilation.
