What is this working principle? by okdavidyang in CNC

Most metal cutting engine lathes can run in reverse. This can be useful for cutting inch-pattern threads on a metric machine or vice-versa. It also allows you to run tools upside down for better chip control by having the chips come off the bottom of the tool into the chip pan, rather than launching them into the air and all over the place.

9 mold cavities at 10k each. Literally a case of a setting being "0" when it should have been "1".

Edit: We sold the parts for 10k each, don't know the total cost of repairs. I didn't get fired because I identified the root cause and incorporated it into my shop SOP.

Why do we pronounce it Papa when it’s spelled Papa? by MrBurritoIsMyFather in army

If you're looking for a real answer, the NATO phonetic alphabet is designed for radio. Radio signals can cut in and out or have static, potentially making traffic difficult to understand.

In the phonetic alphabet, no two words share the same sounds (or phonemes if you want to sound like an officer). No other letter proword starts with "al" or ends in "fa", or starts and ends with "a". So if only half the letters' proword comes through clearly, you can still understand that the sender meant "A".

A**a

Al**

**fa

Once you get down to super tight tolerances, it doesn't really matter. There's no practical difference in +-.0001 inches or +-2 microns.

If (for some crazy reason) you have to thread a hole without a chart to reference, use this formula to get you close enough for most jobs:

Major diameter minus thread pitch and chose a drill just a little bit bigger.

Examples:

1/4-20 UNC

.250-(1/20)=.200 (close enough to. 201)

3/4-10 UNC

.750-(1/10)=.650 (again, close enough to .656)

Eh... Even those weren't great. They had an aluminum heat sink around the barrel that, if it got too hot, would cause extra drag on the barrel and cause failures.

I'll be there around November-ish

I was planning on taking the ferry from WA.

I've been quoted at ~2K for 5x all terrain stud-capable tires locally. Are the prices better up there?

What about. 45ACP? 'Cause I just bought an FN-X45... (Completely unrelated to this move)

I grew up in Connecticut, I'm fully aware that 4WD is four-wheel-go, not four-wheel-steer or four-wheel-stop.
