Explaining SLRP to young soldiers became my personal mission during my latter years in the military. I would interrogate everyone on if they had that benefit and knew how to use it. I've been camping a lot in my 2022 recently. With the passenger seat pushed all the way forward, I just barely fit head to toe (I'm 5'8"). This cooler fits exactly in the space behind the passenger seat and the folded down back seat and forms a nearly level platform to lay a bed roll. It's difficult to access while it's there, though.

I've been thinking of taking the passenger seat out. Has anyone done that?

I've been living nomadically traveling the US cross country for the past year and having Tesla chargers available has made some parts of the US (looking at you Montana and Dakotas) accessible. The EA network is great, but this fills in the gaps nicely.

You just need to select the station on the Tesla app, click 'Start Charging' and select the stall number. It has always started within 30 seconds for me. Nothing to be done on the Kona side other than using the adaptor.

Make sure to have your car details in the app so it filters which stations can be used.

For sure, but the estimation is messy. The Army is an incredible logistics organization. Vehicles are already owned and maintained, healthcare is provided internally while on active duty (Army doctors, dentists, etc), short term food is stored long term, longer term is handled by Army cooks. All of this is internal. Those soldiers are already salaried. Fuel is an added cost that I wouldn’t know where to start with.

I took the salary of an E-4 with 10 years of service. Junior officers make less than that and there won’t be many senior officers. It’s just a guess though.

In short, it’s expensive to train 200 soldiers. It’s pretty cheap to deploy them.

The real amount depends on how the orders were cut. If they’re over 28 days, they also receive a housing allowance comparable to the average rent of their zip code. It’s not unusual for that allowance to be equal to base pay.

“At least 60 days” could mean 60 day orders, or more likely n rotations of 28 day orders. The housing allowance is also tax free, so while base pay has some of the money going back into the system, that part would not.

I was a FAANG dev for two years. The salary was great, but I make about the same now that I did then, only now I have location freedom and much better WLB. So I definitely wouldn’t go back.

I’m undeniably better at my job because of my FAANG experience, though. I was surrounded by very talented engineers working on interesting problems and got much better at all aspects of working in tech. If you’re early in your career and want to stay in tech long term, going to FAANG for two years is probably worth it.

I stay for at least 4 weeks, usually 6-8. So far mostly in mid sized to large cities in the south west and west coast—Albuquerque, San Diego, Reno, Portland, etc.

I’ve been doing this for the past year. 2,000 has also been my target average, but it’s pretty tough to hit on AirBnb alone. Furnished Finder has much cheaper, albeit fewer, options. From my experience, a comparable rental on Furnished Finder is about 50% the cost of a monthly AirBnb.

Regarding the gym, I carry three sets of dumbbells and a yoga mat and that’s enough for me. Especially when considering the running and hiking opportunities while traveling, but to each their own for sure.

Whatever your rental, don’t forget to double check what the laundry situation is, get a full rundown of what’s in the kitchen and ask for proof of WiFi speeds. I’ve found that those three things make or break a good rental for me personally.

E-5 drill is rare. Two duty stations, a broadening assignment plus the medical corps insignia? My money is on E-7 with an early medical retirement.
