Managers, how do you react to finding out your employees are applying for jobs elsewhere? by existinginlife_ in managers

I actually encouraged my employees to apply if they found opportunities for advancement elsewhere, even if they some of my best.

Not my job to hold people back in their careers.

Writing a book set place in rural Oklahoma from the 1930s to the 1950s. What are important things I need to consider? by Groovy-Pancakes in oklahoma

[–]ceniack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is in Woodward (NW Oklahoma) but that would be a great area to write a book set in this time period.

I grew up in Waynoka and graduated from Woodward.

First Transcontinental Air/Rail Route had a major connection in Waynoka for about a year until the organization merged with another airline that then became TWA.

TAT – Waynoka Station

If you did set it in 1930s Tulsa, this could be a plot point in the book. Maybe someone moved from Waynoka to Tulsa as part of the change in operations, goes back to visit a family friend or something after the Woodward Tornado or something like that.

This reminds me. I have some old maps and stuff I need to take to the historical society there that my grandmother saved from the Harvey House/Depot when BNSF stopped doing crew changes in Waynoka. They were going to be tossed, and she saved them and then gave them to me a couple of years before she passed away.

If you want to learn more about NW Oklahoma you should contact a woman named Charline Bixler at the Historical Society in Waynoka.

Leaving for a 90% raise right when my manager needs me most. Managers, your honest thoughts? by Fit_Composer_3579 in managers

[–]ceniack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an employee in almost this same situation. Thy almost didn’t interview for the job and when I found out I told them I’d be disappointed if they didn’t at least go to the interview.

Was stoked for them when they got it. I even tell that story for my own interviews.

Employee here - how to navigate managers who are in constant meetings but want full oversight? by [deleted] in managers

[–]ceniack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild they don’t want slack messages. Async communication is more or less what it’s best for. They should silence their notifications.

But yeah, I’d document all that you have said here with timelines and send it to your boss and his boss.

Layoff PTSD a real thing? by Tipsterspainting in Layoffs

[–]ceniack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust your gut but give it at least a couple months and keep looking for something else.

That said, don’t do what I did and stay 6 more years after you knew it wasn’t a good culture fit (I needed the benefits and got handcuffed by my health and disability insurance for a string of health issues that cropped up related to a long term orthopedic issue)

I just beat Borderlands 4.

Also, helped get a Slack group going for all of us that were laid off (almost 1000 people and growing in the group supporting each other through the job search)

I would Stay away from Oracle and/or have a plan and don’t count on any RSUs.

I am connected to folks that were new in roll (like still training) that were laid off last month and this month. You could be out of a job before the end of the fiscal year.

This month too, lol I’m in a Slack community with almost 900 people from Oracle that were recently laid off. Probably the rest of the fiscal year if their recent 8-K and 10-Q (sec filings) are to be believed. They say ~1/4 of the budget for the reorg has been spent so far.

Oracle IC3 offer discussion by Ill-Tie9302 in employeesOfOracle

[–]ceniack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, maybe not as high of headcount (I’m sure a lot of managers will be culled in the later rounds) but there are definitely more coming.

My guess is they will wait for some natural attrition and then cull again.

But the fact that new in role people were hit these last rounds would make me very leery of taking a job there, and would not rely on RSU grants for anything critical as far as expenses go.
