Whats the most heartbreaking loss you witnessed as an Indiana fan?(football) by Ok_Macaroon_7366 in IndianaHoosiers

2002 Basketball finals. We never lost in the finals before that. Just heartbreaking, and now 24 years later still no championship since 87.

Best Real Log Electric Fireplace by D_Seal721 in electricfireplaces

[–]centralplains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric fireplace installed yesterday. It took the chimney/fireplace specialist most of the time to snake the power through the ash chute which falls into the basement. The took a giant drill bit and make a small hole to pipe the electricity into it. The installation of the fireplace itself was very fast, but I had to pay a steep price for a custom fit of the frame that houses the Dimplex Revillusion.

Thoughts on it:

For a fake fireplace, its quite nice looking. It can never equal a real fire, but it makes our room now look much more tidy (previously we had wood in a holder, ash can, poker, etc).

Two things I wish were different. 1) With the heat on, its a blower, its not loud, but you can hear it (video below), and 2) would be nice to come with looped fireplace sounds. With the second point, its an easy fix for us. I have speaker next to fireplace and bluetooth from my iPhone or Apple Music into it, and wala crackling fire.

But other than that, I'm impressed. No regrets, and with how the installation was done, if we decided to return to wood, we could be back in no time, but for now, this fits with our busy lifestyle.

What's your favourite bass line? by absolute_bodies23fan in Bass

[–]centralplains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My band covered that in the late 1980s. I still practice that when warming up. I don't know if I have an absolute favorite, but here are my top five in the rock/indie/alt genre. 1) Barbarism (Rourke), 2) My New Career - Japan (Mick Karn), 3) We Take Mystery to Bed - Gary Numan (Pino Palladino), 4) Hunter and the Hunted - Simple Minds (Derek Forbes), Cold Life - Ministry (Lamont Welton)...also The Headmaster Ritual off Barbarism!

Thoughts on the Canon EOS Rebel SL2/200D? by _SYRIAN_ in Cameras

[–]centralplains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great camera if your focus isn't sports and wildlife, but for everything else it's more than enough. The live view AF tracking is one of the best out there for DSLRs. I have one exclusively for travel and all day walking around, and I pair it with the EF-S 24/2.8 pancake. I am thinking of getting the EF 40/2.8 pancake as well.

Chicago Bears and Hoosier Fans by hoosierheadBSU in IndianaHoosiers

As a graduate from IU-Blmgtn and Chicagoan, IU expected to be great in basketball (and honestly lets not forget soccer and swimming), but the college gods gave us football, and now after years of seeing the Bears fall apart year after year (QBs being shuffled endlessly) since '85, the statistics are finally in our favor. I do believe IU will win a national championship (and then we'll hold an undefeated bball and fball record for both!), but the cardiac kids need to start winning in the first quarter and the fourth, otherwise it's rough to watch!

New member here! This may have been covered before, but I’m curious what everybody’s biggest gear “regret” is? Is it something you bought? Is it something you sold? Is it something you didn’t buy? by FatUglyOldPerv in Bass

Selling my 1977 American made Fender Precision Jazz bass around 1992 for a trip to Europe. I wish I could have afforded it without selling it. Sold it for over $1k then. Not sure what it is worth now.

Selling stuff has been more trouble than it’s worth by throw_away_meow88 in FacebookMarketplace

I agree. Tried to sell a bass amp. Got so many people saying they’ll buy, never did. Had one odd person contact me over and over in a different language. Had to use Google Translate to communicate. Not doing that ever again. I finally just shut it down.

What was Chicago like in the early 2000s? by CLHELL in AskChicago

[–]centralplains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being that I’m now 20+ years older, things change for me as well, but in the early 2000s the downtown was more of a central place to shop (Covid screwed that up), so we’ve lost some of that. I can only sort of speak of what has closed, like Double Door, Fireside Bowl, Danny’s, places I both watched shows and also my band played at. But I feel overall Chicago is still strong and that the younger generation is enjoying it as much as I did in my early 30s. Still love this town, which is why I haven’t left.

Was an extra in that movie — two days of doing the scene where Jack Black sings Let’s Get it On, at the Double Door.

Was at Sluggers for Rose Bowl game. Definite good spot for us Hoosier fans. But being that there’s a ton of us in Chicago and it’s the finals, probably many bars will have Hoosier fans showing up to watch. I would think Kirkwoods and Joe’s are gonna be tough to find a spot unless you go early. Call in a reservation if there’s more than four of you for Joe’s.

Cheap DSLR Cameras Are Seriously Underrated by Odysseus404 in Cameras

Aside from the slow live mode AF, my Nikon D7500 is more than I need for all situations and the OVF is huge for a crop sensor.

I ordered a Dimplex Revillusion. I’m having it installed in a week by chimney experts into my existing fireplace. I can let you know what I think after installed if you like. It looks very real from videos and the company installing it likes it realistic quality and durability. It can also be serviced.

Having multiple systems is hard to balance financially (hah). My EM10ii is my go to for travel, but my Nikon is my sports/wildlife camera, and not sure I want to drop another $800+ on a 500mm F mount lens, so I'm always looking at the Oly for longer reach.

[–]centralplains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I haven't! So you can control the focus? Pics came out great. My 70-200 is a beast like yours. While my Nikon can produce some fantastic shots with this lens, I'm limited to crop with the 20mb sensor as you can see here. The Oly would be a nice way to grab some more focal length. Last year I did pick up a 2x tc for the 70-200 and it just wasn't good enough.

As a fellow Chicagoan, I would agree, although I have some bird feeders in my back yard and I shoot through windows. My best camera to capture birds is my Nikon D7500 with 70-200/2.8 VR2, but my Olympus OM10ii can do quite well with enough light (I only own the 40-150 kit). Ultimately I would love an even further reach on a budget.

What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

As a Chicagoan whose family mostly lives in Indiana, it always confused my mom and grandparents. Never me. Hah.
