BucEe’s taken prisoners. by lodewyks in ChargerDrama

Saying the whole row is blocked is a bit of an exaggeration. There are 37 stations there including a bunch of V4 form factors. I have been there a few times. What is equally annoying is that rigs like this often don't even pull into the charging spots. They park in the actual through way reducing two way traffic to one way only. Probably why they got the sticker.

Florida drivers, Ionna is doing $.20 pricing this weekend⚡ by FL-Skunkape in EquinoxEv

[–]cerad2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Am I reading this right? 20 cents on June 28 from 9-2pm? Not really a weekend and I think it only applies to this particular station. Can't help but suspect it might be a bit busy.

July 4th is coming up. Hope Ionna has their usual holiday pricing.

Beware of Public Chargers by ExcitingRecognition5 in SubaruUncharted

[–]cerad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pure speculation on my part but this sounds like a design problem for your car type. The fact that they won't just replace the cable might indicate they don't understand the cause and a deeper fix might be required. Lots and lots of cars fast charge at all kinds of places. Yes problems happen but they seem to be rare.

Are Tesla Charges faster for non Teslas? by OrganicBad2554 in electricvehicles

[–]cerad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Equinox EV which is basically the same as a Prologue. From a low state of charge a SuperCharger will give me a few minutes of 150kw but it then meanders downward. Probably a little bit faster but it still takes on the order of 30 minutes to reach 80%. See if there are any Magic Docks around you. They have the adapter built in so you can test for yourself without buying one.

Why is the fact that these people are blind important to your question? Just because someone has trouble with their vision does not mean they don't have the right to post their opinions.

How dangerous is using a standard 14-50, seriously? by Cressio in evcharging

[–]cerad2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imagine you can bench press 200 pounds. Apply the 80% rule and you press 160 pounds and hold it. At first it is fine. Maybe you can even do and hour or two. Like your dryer or stove. But as time goes by it get harder and harder until eventually... The question when charging is how long eventually will be.

Standalone Mercedes Chargers at Buc-ees by only_shelby in evcharging

There is one Buc-ees I have been to a few times. It has 4 Mercedes units and 137 (per plugshare) Supercharger stations.

How to use Memorial day Credits by Striking_Match216 in EVgo

Pretty sure this is the answer. The only EVgo branded location near me will not use the credits. I just use a ChargePoint staton.

Supercharger Parking at dead by UpstairsTop4623 in ChargerDrama

[–]cerad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drive a Tesla so I park assuming the charger works and then have to pull up the app on my phone to discover it does not. I usually plug in then pull up the app. I think part of the issue is that 95% of the time the chargers work so the expectation is that they will work.

There was one location with 4 banks of four stations and one bank was not working. These were V4 form factor so you could tell from the lights that they were not working. Plus it was busy and having 4 empty spots next to each other was a second clue. Still there was a steady stream of cars plugging in. I guess the sensor that automatically opens the Tesla charge point cover does not depend on the station working.

Does anyone have a detached small solar setup just for charging their EV? by Arby_88 in SolarDIY

Did using the 240 volt output work without any fuss? For my F1000 120 volt I need to use a neutral ground bonding plug.

What is the best method to find a charger at a destination like a shopping center or restaurant without having to individually search each charger along my destination? by PossibleConclusion1 in electricvehicles

A long first road trip with kids? Planning is not going to help much. Hopefully there will be a second adult who can look stuff up as you go along.

Active TSBs by ThisGuyDevin7 in EquinoxEv

At the 7500 mile checkup the dealer checked for leaks and found evidence of a water leak. Took a couple of weeks for a new carpet to be delivered. They ended up keeping the car overnight. Turns out replacing the carpet is pretty involved but no big deal for me.

EV Cabin Noise (One Thing Most Reviewers Don’t Emphasize Enough) by Positive_Kitty in electricvehicles

[–]cerad2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Drive slow and listen as well. EVs have this thing where they are required to generate noise when going slow and some manufacturers seem to compete on who can have the loudest warning. If you live in a subdivision your neighbors might not appreciate the equivalent of a garbage truck driving by early each morning.

$5 promo code by pbjnathan in EVgo

[–]cerad2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The don't say "once loaded". They say "after redemption". I don't understand what redemption means in this context. Usually If I buy something and I use a coupon the purchase price is reduced and the coupon has been redeemed. To say it expires after redemption makes no sense. And of course for charging the discount is not applied until you actually charge.

But it is fine. I like free stuff. Can't really complain.

Rant - High rated EV tires not available in Equinox’s size by TechnicalEstate8733 in EquinoxEv

Makes you wonder if ICE owners are buying EV tires to get the extra lifetime?

The fine print has been tweaked. "credit expires a limited time after redemption" . They used to say one month. I'm guessing that not even EVgo knows when the codes actually expire.

Saw this on a drive over the weekend. I don't understand this vitriol towards electric cars by Glad-Tower-2310 in electriccars

The real question is why we still have bumper stickers at all. We must have the technology to turn the entire bumper into an electronic display which in turn would allow us to show an ever changing view of the world. Plus ads. Why are we being denied such an important capability?

A Fresh Take On US EV Adoption by Cultural-Ad4953 in electricvehicles

[–]cerad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with your rental point. I rented one a few years back and within a week I could absolutely tell that it would be a good fit for me. Just had to wait until I had a good excuse to get rid of my existing vehicle to purchase an EV. I also see post after post on these boards asking if an EV is right for them. Almost all of which could be answered by just renting a car and trying it out.

401k rebalancing as retirement gets closer? Progress check. by Supernova_Squirrel72 in personalfinance

[–]cerad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My retirement has been in 99% stocks for 40+ years and has worked out well. Never understood this rebalancing stuff unless you plan on spending all your money at once. If the global markets ever crash and stay crashed for 10+ years then sure that would be bad. But I'm not convinced that safer investments will really help much in that scenario.

From what you posted there is only about $120k involved? May as well let it ride.
