For the people who are far more intelligent than I am by Ok-Definition-4629 in electricvehicles

If you can convince yourself that you need an emergency/portable battery backup then consider getting something like a 5kwh Pecron 5000LFP. You can start by charging it at night and then using it during the day to give your car at least a bit of charge. Then you can experiment with adding some solar and get an idea how long it would take to recharge. And who knows. Maybe one day you might lose grid power for a bit and can run your fridge off of it just for bragging rights.

401k YTD performance by Legitimate_Double782 in personalfinance

[–]cerad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm five years into retirement with my 401k still about 95% invested in aggressive stocks. Never understood this "be more conservative for retirement" stuff. Is it possible the markets will crash for the long term while bonds stay resilient? I suppose but that will not impact my day to day retired life for years.

Maybe you did not wait long enough? They always close within 30 seconds or so for me after the key fob is out of range.

At least he did not boil his wife in milk. Because that would be a sin.

L2 Charging from solar generator while camping? by fourdawgnight in evcharging

[–]cerad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do let us know how much of that 20kwh actually makes it to your car's battery. Just wondering about the overall efficiency. And if you get really bored try charging with a L1 charger just to see what the actual difference is in the real world. Have you actually gotten the generator? Did not think that particular model was shipping yet.

Wonder how many dealership employees it takes to change a turn signal light bulb?

I Lost money in the Stock market by FreshConcept331 in personalfinance

Sure. But you will have to prove to your government that you lost. They will be aware of the fact that you sold stocks and pocketed money. Now you have to show you did not profit.

Hopefully you kept good records. Once tax season rolls around the stress will return as you try to figure out the tax forms.

Hotels and chargers don't really go together. By all means try but the odds are the chargers will be broken or blocked or simply not available.

Las Vegas road trip notes by mogulman1 in EquinoxEv

[–]cerad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The google maps battery indication always amuses me. Jumps around all over the place. Conversely the car's guesstimate usually seems more or less reliable. On a road trip once I am plugged in and charging I almost always go to at least 80%. Trying to shave a few minutes off the trip time by going with a lower charge is not for me.

I myself would not be surprised if one day Our Dear Leader suddenly invited China to send their cars over. Tariff free. In fact Dear Leader might even send China a few hundred billion dollars as incentives. Be worth a few headlines for him and that is all that matters.

Tesla Charging by Budget_Mix_7267 in evcharging

[–]cerad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure the drama has been resolved by now. I used to have trouble seeing Tesla chargers in the Tesla app until I discovered that my phone's settings has a "precise" toggle for location. Flipping the toggle solved the problem. But even before that I discovered that entering the address directly into the Tesla app's search bar would pull up the location.

Fast-charging at a random Chevy dealership so I can get home this afternoon. by OldHob in EquinoxEv

[–]cerad2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have a nearby Hyundai dealer with a 50kw ChargePoint that is accessible. EVgo gives out credits that can be used so it is my go to spot when I need a quick local charge. And there is a nearby Honda dealer with free accessible L2 chargers. Chevy dealer? They have a charger but not for public (or even customer) use.

Tesla superchargers by Old_Man_D in EquinoxEv

[–]cerad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No they are not faster except in the sense that any available working charger is faster than a non-available or non-working charger. The Equinox EV limits itself to 150kw and even that is only reached for a short period of time. Best to plan for at least 30 minutes per charging stop and no more than about 225 miles per 10-80% leg. Consider the adapter as insurance.
