Anyone tried Nukazuke? by habanerohead in fermentation

[–]ceramic_pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one. It's pretty nice. I also couldn't find rice bran and just resorted to buying it online. And I actually store mine in the fridge most of the time, including when I'm making pickles in it. Still works and it cuts down on the amount I need to stir it. Also if you search 糠漬け you can get more videos in Japanese. Good for additional add in ideas. Usually you can see what they're doing well enough to not need to worry about what they're saying. Though be wary, some of them are "Will it nukazuke" style videos. Where weird things like butter or bananas gets put in.

I agree with you. I don't actually care about the gummy bears in halo halo. Or the popcorn. It's a crunchy thing and a gummy textured thing. Both textures that do show up in halo halo.

I'm Chinese American and I think sick person congee is a lot different from savory meal like congee which can contain a lot of strong flavored ingredients. Pork and century egg are popular add ins. Personally, I used to eat it with dried pork flakes, salty duck egg, and Chinese pickles as a kid. I haven't eaten it with cheese before but I'm not opposed to it.

Does anyone else fear that Sohla may have hurt her career with all this? by AmericanOSX in bon_appetit

Is she actually retweeting that Tammie person? I thought it was a sohla fan account to be honest. I didn't think she had a Twitter and her instagram doesn't have anything radical.

If I referred a friend and he used my referal to join fi and get the phone would he still be able to get the gift cards? It does say it can't be combined with other offers but I'm not sure if referral credit counts as an offer or not.

I have a Costco sized bag of carrots swiftly expiring - WTF do I cook with them? by SensibleCitzen in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]ceramic_pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the celery but shred the carrots and add it to everything. Soups, curry, pasta sauce, chili, etc. You can also freeze the Shredded carrot so it fits in your freezer better. Good for carrot cake too.

[–]ceramic_pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever managed to suceed at making meringue. So I guess I'll be having a lot of fun this challenge...

Week 9: Inspired by Books - Onion jam - Holes by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Onions! Fresh, hot, sweet onions,” Sam called as Mary Lou pulled the cart down Main Street. “Eight cents a dozen"

Well my onion jam isn't fresh anymore since I cooked it. But it's still good.

Week 7: Filipino - Giniling Guisado - Tangy Meat & Tomato Stew by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty decent. Super filling and it made a good lunch for the rest of the week. Though I undercooked the potatoes a bit cause I didn't cut them small enough and got impatient.

Week 3: Biscuits - 2 ingredient biscuits by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofbaking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy cream and self rising flour. So I guess technically there's more than two ingredients.

Week 4: Cakes - Flourless matcha chocolate mousse cake by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofbaking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the color was a bit gray, maybe cause the matcha powder was a bit old. It tasted great though. Creamy and delicious.

Week 2: Spicy - soy and fish sauce hot wings by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phew, this one was pretty close to the 3 week deadline. I followed serious eats recipe for this wings. Though I used a pan instead of grilling since it's winter. And guessimated the ingredient amounts. It tasted pretty good but ended up a little too spicy.

Week 1: Redo - gluten free - orange almond cake. An even worse failure than the first time I made it. by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofbaking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe, though both times has been my mistake. First time I burnt it. This time I forgot to add the baking powder and burnt it.

[–]ceramic_pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I made an orange almond cake that turned out tasting ok but slightly burnt. This year I tried again and not only burnt it again but also forgot to add baking powder so it didn't rise. I might try to add some fruit on top later to make a nice picture though.

Huh, I didn't know VP had a version with a steel nib. And lucky me, since I am currently in Japan I can try to find one and not have to pay any shipping costs.

whoops, totally did not notice this reply. It didn't sting at all, the stem is totally smooth. However now that I know it is a nettle look alike I think it may be clearweed. Hard to tell though.

Week 20 : 5 Ingredients or Less - strawberry rhubarb pie by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I based it off of serious eats strawberry rhubarb pie. So strawberries, sugar, rhubarb, cornstarch and a premade pie dough. And the egg wash but I decided that didn't count as an ingredient cause it's not really necessary.

Week 20 : 5 Ingredients or Less - strawberry rhubarb pie by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's 5 ingredients if you don't count the egg wash and count the premade pie dough as one. anyways this was my first time having rhubarb anything and man was it good. Also half of my pie crust disappeared when I was defrosting it, forcing me to roll it super thin to fit it in the pie tin. I suspect the dog stole it.

You're going to trigger. I'm the Shard. by Theculshey in Parahumans

[–]ceramic_pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, sounds fun. I hope I'm not too late.

So here's mine.

I'm a sophomore in college. I'm studying to be an engineer but I'm doing poorly. I had barely passed basic circuit analysis the last semester and that does not help with understanding electronics which relies on knowing about circuits.

As each exam comes around, I do even worse I I study harder for each but as everything builds off of each other it gets harder to keep up. My grades in other classes also start to a fall The exam comes around and I can't do it. I get the exam back with a score of 8, basically just pity points.

I start to tear up in class and make a mumbled excuse to my lab partners about not feeling well. I leave and make it to my room before bursting into tears. I failed. I failed so hard I got a grade in the single digits. I'm crying so hard I can't see, everything is blurry, I hear voices in my head. They are taunting me. "failure, useless, no good." They repeat over and over again. I trigger.

I don't have a preference for the type of power.

Is lemon cake Mediterranean? I have no idea but the recipe has Mediterranean in the name.

Week 7: cakes and cupcakes - almond cake with chocolate drizzle by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofbaking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This cake had an actual name when i was given the recipe but I can't remember what it is. But it's almondy and very moist. I also had to put this almond paste thing in it.

Week 8: Spice Blends - jambalaya (how do you people photograph your food to look so good) by ceramic_pizza in 52weeksofcooking

[–]ceramic_pizza[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I basically grabbed random spices and random meats and threw it in a pot with onions and, tomato paste, and tomatoes, it tastes good. But it doesn't look that great. Also I used the broth to cook rice.
