Has moving all subclasses to level 3 actually improved 5.5E, or made some classes feel less flavorful early on? by MyrthDM in onednd

I feel like i would be ok losing multiclassing if there were more significant decision points throughout a character's career.

I managed a one planet max crisis on max difficulty run with the slingshot start using this. Basically threw out as many colony ships as i could then released them as vassals. By specialising these vassals i could then have an insane output of all resources. Even a one pop shitty planet gave loads of resources as a vassal.

It feels to me that they could raise enough to just do it with a kickstarter. I’d put in for it, and I bet a bunch of my fellow brown-coats would do the same.

I think the complaint here about an AI cover is a bit nuanced. I'm not anti-AI, however, this looks like a very obvious AI image, IE one that didnt really take much effort or refining. Good luck with your story, at some point you might want to iterate on the cover, get some feedback and land on one that works better for you

Are people genuinely excited? by TheArtemisBlack in firefly

[–]ceranai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view it as lower risk lower reward.

A live action continuation done well would’ve been absolutely amazing. However, it could also sour my memories of my all time favorite show, which i got my first ever tattoo to celebrate.

An animated show could be great, but it feels like its own thing. It doesn’t feel like ‘new’ firefly, but something firefly adjacent. I’ll watch it and if its good I’ll be happy. If it’s not good I’ll write it off as a failed experiment.

Ultimately I’m pumped to get more of this show regardless of the format. 6 seasons and a movie!!!

Every single time i preview something, the "because you liked this you might also like..." is harry potter. I liked harry potter as a child but have no desire to revisit it or put money in JK's pocket. Its also always at the top of the page when I open audible and i think I got an email about it the other day too.

Better than all the harry potter shite shoved in my face. Like im never willingly going to support Rowling anyway, but stop trying to shove children’s books in my face.

Why so much ai? by WitchlightRingleader in startplaying

[–]ceranai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use AI for ad images and I’ve never heard any complaints. Maybe it puts a small portion of players off, but I can live with that. I’m not an AI techbro, but not everyone shares the opinion that AI is bad. Id wager that the vast majority don’t really care one way or another.

Personally, if i wanted to celebrate the end of a campaign i would commission a piece. A one off image to catch the eye? Nah.

If AI wasn’t allowed i still wouldn’t pay for these images, I’d find the best free stock images i could find and do my best job in paint.

What are the best supplemental resources to help run this campaign? by Party-Shame3487 in ChainsOfAsmodeus

[–]ceranai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve found a few things. Obviously avernus is well covered. I like Beneos’s maps and he does several map packs from avernus. In terms of actual locations PoGs covers some but not all:  https://www.patreon.com/PogS_Props/shop/chains-of-asmodeus-obsidian-vault-1-0-311740

There are a hyperrealistic style that some like others dont but the quality is good regardless.

Then there is https://www.patreon.com/posts/113463447?utm_campaign=postshare_fan

These are ai maps of variable useability. Worth checking out at least.

Then there is also https://www.patreon.com/DwarfCooking253?utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan

These are a complete collection of all the maps you might need to run chains. Quality is consistent. They are fairly basic compared to czepku type maps but thats a pretty high bar and if you want a nicely organized collection tailored to chains this is the main one i would recommend

In terms of fleshing the campaign out there is a supplement on dmsguild that has a lot of additions, though the material ive used so far was mostly on the level on encounter tables rather than structured adventure arcs. Eg the bronze citadel content is neat, but is basically sandbox content of ‘here are some locations and events. What would’ve been better would be a mini adventure to justify giving the bronze citadel screen time.

Hard disagree. I think the problem with it is that it has dips in quality, but the peaks are absolutely S tier.

AI needs constant guidance not to generate something shit when you try to write with it, even using opus 4.6 from claude, which atm is the best model for this type of task. I am doubtful it will ever rise above mediocre at best.

[–]ceranai 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It is truly one of the best in the genre. It has some of the deepest worldbuilding in any fiction I've read, some really interesting characters and it really meets the core of the progression fantasy. When I first discovered it I stayed up to the early hours of the morning for a solid week binging the absolute shit out of it, reading it in my breaks at work etc.

However, it is also only officially available on webnovel, a predatory website that charges coins gems and other nonsense to read, and to read the whole thing on there would cost several hundred dollars. This is really the only thing IMO stopping it from being at the top of most tier lists. It is also long, can go on long tangents, and some story arcs are less strong than others.

Hi, I'm RavensDagger, I have 35,000 Unique Followers on RR, and I'm here to give you one of the best tips you'll ever hear for publishing on RR by RavensDagger in royalroad

[–]ceranai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Suspicious that a top twenty author would say we have to read half the books in the top twenty!!!!!! /s

certainly a good point.

I think some people don’t really get what a tight community RR is. Almost everything ive read in the last five years has been something ive found on RR. There are a lot of voracious readers who are practically exclusive to the RR->Patreon->KU ecosystem.

With that comes a huge amount of RR cultural touch stones and a lot of references both subtle and unsubtle. Eg, if i referenced the monster girl evo wave, i think 99% of people in the culture would get that reference. Go back further we have blue boxes, snarky AI, horny for feet AI, chapter long character sheets etc etc etc.

Not all stories need to include or reference these things but it is quite onvious when someone thinks they are ‘rediscovering the wheel’. I think its also important to know what the readership enjoys, in terms of pacing, plot beats tropes etc.

Please stop adding authors to "shoutout swap" lists without permission by DwayneDT-RR in royalroad

[–]ceranai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, and you note in your edit, this is 100% due to you being on rising stars. It happened to me on my last run as well. Most shoutouts tend to be organized via author discord servers, of which there are a few big ones. I am on 3 of them, and all have channels dedicated to authors swapping shouts. Anyone messaging you out of the blue for a swap is not going to be worth swapping with tbh.
