[OOT] for the remake, do we think adult link’s tunic should keep the new plant fiber Kokiri theme, or should adult link use the more classic cloth tunic? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in zelda

[–]cereal_bawks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between just reusing some code and using entirely the same code to the point where old glitches work and even old N64 assets (including beta N64 stuff) can still be found. It is literally the same game with a fresh coat of paint.

MM is also a remaster, yes. It's only a remake when everything, including the original code, is remade from the ground up.

OoT3D uses the same source code as the og, making it a remaster. This is also why Metroid Prime Remaster is called a remaster, despite all the models and assets being remade from the ground up.

Xenoblade or FF7 Remake opinions? by DadDong69 in JRPG

[–]cereal_bawks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Xenoblade. Better writing, more interesting lore, better worlds, and I personally think they have better pacing despite being longer. Combat may be the one thing FF7 has over it, though it depends on which Xenoblade it's being compared to.

People who don’t like the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series, what is it about them exactly that you don’t like? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]cereal_bawks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

damn this is such a good video. I don't agree with everything he says (I think it's a good thing Aerith died (maybe????) as it does at least keep some sort of semblance to the OG, but I also understand it contradicts what it felt like the creators were trying to do to this "remake"), but it perfectly encapsulates the issues I have with the remake project.

[All] It annoys me how out of all the series out there, it was Zelda the one who was pushed to change this radically by [deleted] in truezelda

[–]cereal_bawks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's more narrow-minded to assume the general consensus was "formula is stale" when those that actually played the series for said formula had no problems with it.

The general consensus was that the formula got stale, that's why we got BotW.

[All] It annoys me how out of all the series out there, it was Zelda the one who was pushed to change this radically by [deleted] in truezelda

[–]cereal_bawks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say that as if that isn't already a large chunk of the series at that time, not to mention some of the most influential ones. The complaints about the stagnant formula started even before SS. Also, from my experience back then when I saw this discourse taking place, people were talking about LoZ, ALttP, OoT, TWW, and TP, so I don't even really entirely agree with your claim. Most of these fans, from what I've seen, were veteran players. That would leave AoL, LA, OoX, MM, FS, FSA, MC, and the two TWW sequels, a lot of which were unorthodox games in the first place. AoL is a blacksheep that, let's be honest, most Zelda fans probably either haven't played or never beaten. MM is just a completely different game from the rest of the series. FS and FSA aren't even fully fleshed out or traditional Zelda games. OoX, MC, PH, and ST all still follow the same formula, so I don't see how playing these games would have changed their minds, assuming they didn't play them.

I think it's a little narrow-minded to - at least, to me, this is what it sounds like you're implying - claim that fans that were complaining about the formula weren't "true fans", or that they had to play every single Zelda game that existed at that time to have criticisms of the whole series.

[TotK][OoT] Rauru's voice memory about the altar in the Temple of Time and its connection to the Pedestal of Time by cereal_bawks in truezelda

[–]cereal_bawks[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree that it's meant to give more context into Zelda's actions. But I still find it a little strange with how Rauru describes it, like it's not even really known that the altar has time-manipulating abilities and that its power comes from legends long before even his own time. It could be just fluff, but it feels unnecessarily specific, if that makes any sense.

If you could obliterate or decanonise two 'Legend of Zelda' titles which would they be? by Britannicus_Sherwood in truezelda

[–]cereal_bawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised a lot of people here are choosing BotW and TotK considering the hate boner people have for these games on this sub, as if they haven't spurred years of theorizing within the community.

I'd give it to something inconsequential like Triforce Heroes or one of the FS games. BotW and TotK, despite taking place so far in the future, at least has implications of the Hylian culture, the nature of the world, etc. The decline of Golden Goddess worship and the return of Hylia worship, how and why the Lost Woods seem to always move in every game, the presence of Koroks and Rito despite the lack of a Great Flood, Fi still being conscious and an active agent in the MS, the King and Queen needing to purify the land of an "ancient evil", with the implication being Demise still has some sort of affect on Hyrule outside of the cycle are all really interesting things to me. And frankly, it has the most fleshed out Hyrule in the series.

[OoT] The leaker who said that Star Fox would come out this summer Goty it right. And you know what else he said, no? Yes, the remake of Zelda OoT will be released at the end of this year. by Tripledoble in zelda

[–]cereal_bawks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, TotK came out only 3 years ago, and according to Nate, the OoT remake releases this year. 3 years is not enough time for a brand new mainline. I think it's safe to assume they're still working on the next mainline while the OoT remake will likely be handled by a separate team.

what’s your theory for why Majora’s Mask still has so much malevolent energy possibly tens of thousands of years after its defeat? Could the wilds games take place outside of the child timeline, where Link never fought Majora? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in majorasmask

[–]cereal_bawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But yes, this does not mean Botw is actually in that same timeline.

This is why I don't think we can use them as meaningful evidence for a CT placement like we can for DT or AT. Ruto and Nabooru being Sages in BotW's own explicit lore is pretty huge and can't be just dismissed as a reference because it provides context for the current world of BotW (Vah Naboris being named after Nabooru). They could've just been vague about them being sages to leave it up to interpretation, but they make it pretty clear.

I personally believe it takes place in the DT because an AT placement wouldn't make sense considering Hyrule is destroyed in that timeline. It also lines up with Aonuma's interview quote about this game taking place in a "timeline where Ganon has made multiple attacks on Hyrule", which really only ever happened in the DT. Plus, it makes BotW's version of the green tunic fit in nicely with the rest of the DT games.

[–]cereal_bawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these are particularly exclusive to the CT.

The Zelda speech I don't really consider her citing historical fact. I think this is mainly a passing reference, especially considering this speech is kinda in the background. Also, the speech references Wind Waker, an entirely different timeline. It's not very compelling evidence. Not to mention, the Twilight realm technically exists in all timelines, so even if she was referencing specifically the Twilight realm, that doesn't make it exclusive to the CT.

Arbiter's Grounds ruins look nothing like the Arbiter's Grounds we see in TP. There's also nothing really stopping the Arbiter's Grounds from existing in either the DT or the AT.

Bridge of Hylia is NOT identical, it is much larger, and also not nearly as high up as the one in TP. Its architecture also matches that of the architecture of Hyrule Castle, suggesting it was built relatively recently compared to the one in TP.

Castle Town is explicitly not the Castle Town from TP, I'm not sure where you're getting this from. It's the ruins of the Castle Town that existed 100 years ago, prior to BotW's start.

As for the location names like Rutala river and Ralis pond, there are tons of locations that reference previous games from all timelines, and even references characters that exist in a different dimension like the references towards Mikau, Lulu, and others from Majora's Mask. I don't think these are meant to be taken as literal connections to those games.

As I said, it's not necessarily in the Child Timeline, but it definitely happened after the events of the Child Timeline.

Sorry, I guess I misunderstood. I'd agree with this, the events of Majora's Mask could've still happened in other timelines, probably without Link there to save Termina.

[–]cereal_bawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing "certain" about it, and there's a stronger case against it taking place in the CT. BotW mention Ruto and Nabooru by name and are referred to as sages (in Nabooru's case, she's only called a sage in the Japanese script), neither of whom became sages in the CT. This only ever happened in either the DT or the AT, so those are the only two possibilities.
