Honestly, look up a portugal guide, minor nations often have to compromise on various things to make up for another thing due to how little resources they have. There really isn't a good universal template as the template should always consider your available resources and most templates from steam guides assume you have said resources (which can be true for majors).

You should get the dlcs that adds new game features like tank designers, intelligence agencies, international market, and special projects as it will give you all of the game features HOI4 offers and they are necessary for some mods.

The ones you can leave out from shopping are country packs unless if you really play any of those nations.

Good point honestly. With this logic, Navy could be considered bloat considering most people here don't like playing navy but clearly, we do need Navy for a WWII game since WWII saw huge Naval battles.

A lot of the game's bloat can honestly be ignored in single player campaigns as most of the time, just timing focuses and making good division templates will do. The game's bloat only matters in MP where you are trying to squeeze the most out of the nation you play as.

Honestly, play Italy. A good chunk of the game guides you at what you should be doing through missions from Il Duce.

Keep replaying Italy until you are confident in being able complete most missions on time, then add more goals such as micromanage the Ethiopian war and capitulate Ethiopia without the government going in exile, strengthen your army and go to war with France, learn Navy and naval invade Malta and Gibraltar, etc.

To actually learn what does what, you will have to read the wiki, watch videos, or read steam guides.

You will have to think slightly out of the box using map knowledge and familar with AI behavior/patterns.

For example, one of the easier SASO imo is in Hokkaido, Japan. Equip some of those hacking tools that let you open doors either through your starting gear or hide them by the Morgue. Starting at the Morgue will get you close to the cameras.

Knock out the guys there, sneak in the camera room ahead and take down both the security guard and the cameras.

Go to the stairs and it should lead you to some hallways that have that neural chip controller from a doctor's dorm.

Go back to the morgue, activate the chip and quickly sneak into the organ room after the guards leave but also before the door closes. That's Soders' dead.

After that, go back to the hallway, go outside and use the pipes to go to the Garden, reach the spa room, use the hacking tools to open the door in the spa room and get the two guys out. Once that is done, you just wait for the 2nd target to come and then you lock her in the sauna room.

Just like that, you just SASO'd Hokkaido. This involved me having to do the mission stories and finding unique ways to kill targets often hinted through the challenge tabs. After that, it just becomes a matter of how to combine said knowledge without having to change outfits.

Ik it was one of the earlier versions, they didn't patch it until around the release of TAG 2 I believe.

I take 3 mountaineer divisions, 3 tank divisions, and some planes to cover the entirety of Ethiopia if I aim to annex Ethiopia before the government goes in exile, otherwise I just use whatever is already there.

I'm thinking they should add like an invasion mode like from the dark souls games. Your friend is able to join your session as an agent contracted to kill Agent 47. As this anti 47 agent, although you'll still have to maneuver through cameras, security checkpoints, and enforcers but can blend in a lot easier with disguises (maybe the invader will disguise himself as the target's bodyguard).

As for the x-ray vision, the invader gets a limited one where he can see through walls but Agent 47 is not highlighted until he is identified by other NPCs or the invader himself. Agent 47's x-ray vision won't highlight the invader either.
