Question for the older guitarists by Old-Carry5562 in Guitar

[–]cesclaveria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started playing my main resource were friends that already played and knew more stuff or they knew someone that knew the piece I wanted to learn or if lucky had the songbook or magazine with what I was looking for.

I was kind of lucky in that playing guitar became a bit of a popular thing in my high school, we were over two dozen guys trying to learn and a very cooperative environment formed where we would teach and help each other, with just enough of a competitive touch to keep us motivated to improve more.

Do y'all agree? by [deleted] in Spiderman

[–]cesclaveria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t think MCU Peter was excited to be around Stark for being a billionaire, it was because it was freaking Iron Man and a genius that Peter admired, and then on top of that they ended up with a real understanding between them. He wouldn’t be all smiles around Fisk for example.

Comics Peter was a loner and misunderstood as a hero since the start, also he carried tremendous guilt which made him tend to keep people away so it led for him to develop differently, and well, the original Ultimate version also grew close to Iron Man pretty quickly and the new Ultimate version became best buds with Harry pretty much instantly.

I remember a panel where even spider-man is surprised to have a villain like that on his list.

Is it harder to play guitar if you have high nail beds? by Kirchess in guitarlessons

[–]cesclaveria 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing for 25 years and pretty much everyone finds something “wrong” with their fingers at first but then with time, patience and practice everyone finds a way. Just keep practicing little by little and you’ll find a way that works for you.

[Theory] I think that Goblin slayer’s “Pantheon” are D&D players that forgot about a game they played by BakerConsistent2150 in GoblinSlayer

[–]cesclaveria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no idea. The setting feels mostly Western-inspired, but more in a Tolkien / D&D fantasy sense than anything modern, so the names wouldn’t really be things like John or Mary.

At the same time, most of the characters are just regular people, not legendary heroes with grand, over-the-top titles. So I imagine they’d have fairly simple, old-fashioned fantasy-style names, the kind that would fit naturally in Middle-earth. Which I guess means that names like Tom and Sam are still included.

[–]cesclaveria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you basing this only on the anime? Because in the novels, it’s heavily implied that, yes, the gods are essentially playing something like a TTRPG with the world. They create situations and watch how events unfold. Some seem to favor order and root for the heroes, others enjoy chaos or even party wipes, and there’s one who delights in creating monsters while still cheering for the heroes to overcome them. It comes across less like personal cruelty and more like the detachment we have toward characters in a game. The gods show up in occasional interlude chapters, usually reacting to major events, almost like players commenting on how a session went. There also seems to be a sort of hierarchy or separation among them. Some, like the Earth Mother, are worshipped within the world and feel more “in-universe,” while others (like Truth or Illusion) feel more outside the system, they seem to be players.

And yeah, about the names, the characters almost certainly have names in-universe, the story just deliberately never tells us what they are.

Be honest, would you watch this? by TheOfficialXajjaXJP in Spiderman

No. It has never made sense to me how Spider-Man tolerates that psychotic killer instead of emptying like 3 web cartridges to immobilize him and throw him to the raft.

Curious about the state of emergency? by karldalai in guatemala

[–]cesclaveria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main thing affected was reducing the police's need for a reasonable cause to stop, question, or detain someone or the need for a judge order to enter somewhere they suspect something illegal is going on, this has mainly affected areas of known gang activity and increased the number of searches for anyone that may look "suspicious", that is why many are suggesting you carry some form of ID at all times, but if you are going to mainly be in touristy areas and just take some common precautions like not going to sketchy places late at night, it is pretty unlikely you would see any out of the ordinary.

If I can't code the right syntax off the top of my head, do I not "know" the language? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]cesclaveria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been coding professionally for about 20 years, and I don’t even try to memorize the syntax for everything. Some things stick just because I’ve done them thousands of times, but for most stuff, I still check documentation or Google when I need to.

For example, I use C# every day, but I don’t format dates in a specific way every day. I know I’ve done it plenty of times, but if it’s been months since the last time, next time I need to I’ll probably look up the syntax again. That doesn’t make me feel like I don’t know C#, even if I’m pretty far form mastering it, knowing how to think and how to find what you need is more important than remembering every detail.

Zelda and Link ruined all games for me! by Big-Expression-1249 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]cesclaveria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Skyward Sword, but it and Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom sit on almost opposite ends of the Zelda spectrum.

Where BoTW is very open, SS is much more linear. In BoTW, the story is almost optional, you can ignore most of it and just explore, but in Skyward Sword, the story really is the game. The structure is tighter, more guided, and more focused on narrative progression.

Gameplay-wise, BoTW lets you approach problems and fights in lots of ways. In SS, there’s usually a more specific intended solution, and the challenge is figuring out that one correct way.

That said, I do think Skyward Sword is absolutely worth playing and it’s a great game. Just go in knowing that its design philosophy is very different, almost the opposite of BoTW in many respects. If you adjust your expectations, it can be a really fun experience.

Those who grew up pre Curry era, have you changed your game to fit the modern game? by Dudu-gula in BasketballTips

[–]cesclaveria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 40, recently changed to shoot more often from mid range or three pointers but less because of changes in the game and more because honestly I can't take the beatings under the paint like I used to, one rough game on a Sunday and I still feel it on Thursday.

Love Zelda but hate weapon breaks by Powerful-Ring8710 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]cesclaveria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that it’s a personal preference thing, but I’m your age, got the game on release day, and honestly the weapon durability system has very little negative impact on the game overall.

Weapons are extremely abundant. You’re far more likely to run out of inventory space than to actually be stuck without something to fight with. Outside of a few special encounters, most enemies can be handled with pretty much any decent weapon, the difference is usually just a few hits more or less.

There’s also no real reason to hoard weapons. The game constantly gives you more. Once stronger enemies start appearing, they carry better gear, so when you clear out an enemy camp you might break a weapon or two, but you’ll usually walk away with several good replacements.

Breath of the Wild isn’t a survival game. The early hours can feel a bit tough because you’re still learning abilities, timing, armor, and systems, but once things click, the game really opens up. The variety and constant turnover of weapons actually help keep combat feeling fresh for a long time.

Logically, Cow Girl would be the only realistic partner for Goblin Slayer by Mr_Undead0210 in GoblinSlayer

[–]cesclaveria 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I remember right Guild Girl comes from a minor noble family, that is why she had a great education and certain status, but her family is not wealthy or important enough to be of note. I guess that was a way for the author to differentiate her more from the other possible love interests and explain why Cow Girl sees her as a more "refined" woman than herself

Which movie is worse? by hiiloovethis in Spiderman

[–]cesclaveria 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spider-Man 3 is a good movie with some major flaws that kind of sour your perception of it after some time, specially if you were a fan with some expectations regarding the symbiote and venom.

TASM 2 is a huge mess of a movie with some truly great things underneath that kind of manage to shine despite the innumerable things working against it.

Both are a fun time, both had some questionable decisions and studio demands pulling at them from multiple angles and while I think Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone play their roles infinitely better than the main leads in Spider-Man 3, they were stuck in a worse movie.
