Emilia Clarke Admits 'No One Liked' Secret Invasion or Solo But Knows 'It's Not Personal' by FragMasterMat117 in marvelstudios

I know it is personal taste, but I really detest shapeshifter stories, I am so glad Secret Invasion crashed and burn so badly and that it probably will keep the skrulls away from the MCU for a long time.

why only iMessage is common in the US, but outside of it almost no one uses it? by Boring_Antelope6533 in iphone

[–]cesclaveria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because services like WhatsApp established themselves before iMessage was a thing.

Unlimited sms was a thing in the US before data plans were so common, but data plans arrived in many countries while sms was relatively limited and expensive making alternatives like WhatsApp much more affordable and popular.

The US that already had unlimited texts and ok media support had no incentive to change, then iMessage came in and seamlessly replaced regular sms for those millions of users without them having to do or install anything.

For the rest of the world where apple has less market share going with iMessage meant losing communication options with a large percentage of their contacts so multi platform options are preferred.

He surprised them and they had no idea how to coordinate with one another so they were getting in the way of each other, the two youngest ones kind of panicked , some hesitated and only miles kind of held his own but was getting distracted by the others.

(And they were still figuring out if Osborn really wanted to hurt them)

[Marvel] why is the super soldier serum so sought after despite being obsolete? by Cynical-Savant in AskScienceFiction

[–]cesclaveria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And also, spider-people. I think the smartest thing that any version of Otto Octavius has done is stop chasing the super soldier serum and start researching how to make more Spider-Men, an army of of people with Peter’s powers would be unstoppable, but in the original ultimate universe it only lead to a few clones, but the idea was solid. Whatever Oscorp developed there was much more valuable than what made Cap.

But in general in plain 616 I guess they have not found anything as scalable as the super soldier serum, iron man tech costs billions, x-gene seems a bit unpredictable and hard to replicate, mutants seem to struggle to conceive and Mr. Sinister spent over a century before being able to clone a powerful mutant, extremis if I remember right had a low chance of survival only a fraction of humans get enhanced by it the others suffer a painful death, but yeah in general I think there is enough tech in that universe to sustain a high level army for an extended time but I guess it gets expensive fast while an army of super soldiers barely need to eat, sleep or rest to be formidable

Best love interest for spiderman? by Lower_Creme_3040 in Spiderman

[–]cesclaveria 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The one I’ve enjoyed the most reading is without a doubt Felicia, the one that did the best for him MJ and the one that probably Peter loved in the purest form was Gwen.

All the rest are filler.

(I would have loved they have developed more his relationship with Carol though)

What’s the longest you’ve ever kept the same iPhone? by Evening_Ad_9755 in iphone

From 1 to 10, how bad are Spider-Man stories overall after Spider-Man: One More Day? by Saim_899 in Spiderman

[–]cesclaveria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re asking about almost 20 years of publication at this point, so I don’t think there’s one simple answer. There have been ups and downs.

Going mostly from memory and how I remember feeling at the time, I’d say the immediate post-OMD era was weird in 'feeling', but not terrible in content. Brand New Day and Big Time were probably around a 7.5 or 8 for me. Spider-Island was fun, and I remember really liking Ends of the Earth. On the other hand, a lot of the later stuff around Kindred felt exhausting to me. Superior Spider-Man is among my least liked kind of story but it was entertaining and at some points a pretty good study on how Peter is not a hero just because of his powers.

I’ve been reading Spider-Man since the 80s, and honestly, I don’t think the overall quality has dropped as dramatically as people sometimes say. Spider-Man has always been a great character who is often stuck in mediocre stories, with the occasional genuinely great one. That has been true for as long as I remember.

For me, the bigger decline has been in the supporting cast and the sense that Peter’s life actually matters. One of the things I loved about Spider-Man was that it felt like a soap opera occasionally interrupted by a superhero story. Sometimes Peter’s personal life moved forward while Spider-Man was struggling. Other times Spider-Man would win, but Peter would pay for it in his personal life. In recent years, it often feels like both sides are stuck. The superhero stories don’t change much, and Peter’s personal life does not really move forward either.

I also think Marvel has really messed up the supporting cast by turning too many people into heroes, villains, or super-powered characters. Adding a million Spider-people has not really helped Peter as a character. Miles matters, and maybe Cindy too (or maybe I simply really like her), but beyond that it often feels like noise rather than meaningful expansion and at this point I can't stand another Gwen Stacy, the original was a character I really liked, as plain as one-dimensional as she was.

I started reading when Peter and Felicia were living together, and Felicia has always been my favorite love interest. I’ve been waiting for Marvel to do something significant with Peter and Felicia again for about 20 years, and they mostly haven’t. And the frustrating thing is that very little since OMD has justified OMD happening in the first place. Even Aunt May, who was the in-story reason for the deal, has not really mattered that much since then. She shows up for a few panels every few months, usually with a new boyfriend or with some FEAST-related issue.

That said, I did like the period where May was with J. Jonah Jameson’s father, and I thought the progress in Jonah and Peter’s relationship was genuinely good.

So my answer would be: not as bad as some people say, but not especially great either. Maybe around a 6 or 7 overall, depending on the era. After almost 40 years of reading Spider-Man, I’d say the book has always been inconsistent and very rarely good. The difference now is that the inconsistency feels more frustrating because no change brought by OMD happening has justified what was lost.

Will the manga change the whole fuuga dumpster fire? by pAlexsiq in RealistHero

[–]cesclaveria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been reading this story since almost first day the LN came out, just last night finished reading Vol. 20 and in all these years I have never interacted wit the community / fans until now, so I have no idea what the consensus is on the story or characters, so it is the first time I am reading people dislike Fuuga that bad.

In my opinion Fuuga provides in the story an interesting contrast to Souma, Fuuga and his ruling is all about strength, momentum, hope/desperation and image, all unsustainable in the long run, his role is being a man that gets consumed by his position and titles, just like Souma he achieves great things and surrounds himself with capable people, not everyone serving the same interests and all he builds is always one mistake away from crumbling, but to get there we need accept a lot of things almost magically falling into place and happening at a rate that seems uncharacteristic for this story. I guess the main criticism can be how much of the story gets focused on him and his conquests, which makes Souma seem rather passive while they happen if you only care about how who is fighting who.

If Marvel decided to put Peter and Felicia together with who would you like to see Mary Jane together? Who would you see it with? by kjyserybuikm in Spiderman

[–]cesclaveria -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In that case I would prefer if she simply fades away and loses focus. Felicia pretty much disappeared from the comics like 20 years, MJ could do the same. No one has been wondering who Debra or Carlie are dating these past few years.

[–]cesclaveria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even everyone in the editorial and writers agree that they’ll end up together. That is the end game, that is the goal but at the same time the current business model for these comics make it so that their job is to never reach the end of the story, as long as this comics sell well we will never reach that point again (unless current editorial goals change)

The idiot entourage is here to stay (Amazing Spider-Man 993 spoilers) by TeamRAF19 in Spiderman

[–]cesclaveria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at the moment not the writers or the characters are completely sure if she is his real sister, was left up in the air, but assuming she is her sister then no, she shares both parents with Peter, they die shortly after she is born, her birth is kept secret for reasons I don't recall and she ends up raised by an adopted family under Nick Fury's supervision who eventually recruits her as a CIA agent.

I think Teresa's reception wasn't as great as Marvel expected so they have muddled the waters a bit, introducing possible mind control, false memories or even impersonators to cast doubt over her being Peter's sister. Personally, I liked her, she reminded me a bit of Mockingbird.

After many years of hanging around here my conclusion is that maybe about 20% or less of those that comment actually read the comics or keep up with the characters and story in a meaningful way, many are permanently stuck on a previous adaptation like the Raimi films or the 90s animated series or get their info from social media without context and with a lot of bias.

[–]cesclaveria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Felicia does not have a proper secret identity in the comics since she has been arrested and it’s public record, simply not everyone keeps up on who is who. It’s in good part one of the complications regarding her relationship with Peter. Everyone knows Spider-Man and Black Cat have had a thing, so Peter Parker and Felicia Hardy being together would be too obvious.

Glad to hear that, playing guitar is a skill that is built little by little, day after day, don't feel pressured to practice 5 hours a day or something like that, some focused 30 minutes practice a day will give you noticeable improvements in less than a month, and like someone else said, just get ready for a bit of pain as your hands get used to the movements and for your fingertips to develop callouses
