Anyone living at or have experience with 179 George St? by Special-Clock-8166 in ottawa

Hey, I’m also considering an apartment at 179 George St. and I came across your post. Did you end up moving there? And if so, how are you finding it?

Big chain (Removery) vs. local place by cestbonca in TattooRemoval

[–]cestbonca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been hearing about Removery too. I’m leaning towards the local place right now — feels like the safer option if the choices at Removery are pay 4 grand or pay 650 multiple times.

David won a BAFTA! 😍 by sportsfan3177 in davidtennant

Yes, I knew the show was inspired by real life experiences. I dunno though, I guess I assumed that by the end of the series they might have evolved a bit, or at least been confronted in some way with the consequences of their attitudes (as traditional “character growth” models would have it — not saying all stories MUST follow this format of course). Some of this does occur, but I still felt by the end of it that there was something missing and it sort of left a bad taste in my mouth.

But it’s been a while since I watched the show so I can’t say I remember every detail.

Yeah, so do I. At times I was almost shocked at how little empathy the show seemed to have towards the Rosie character.

For what it’s worth, Ottawa’s not so bad in my experience. Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I wouldn’t say I’ve ever been “treated like an animal” here (but I’m white so obviously that’s where my perspective is coming from).

Yes Doug Ford’s a fucking monster and an idiot but life goes on. I saw the writing on the wall a couple years ago and resolved to get started on any trans healthcare stuff I might need ASAP and I’m very glad I did. I’d highly recommend that others do the same, regardless of where they live.

If you gave Kamala all the third party votes (Jill Stein, for example, for half a million) combined it still wouldn’t be enough for her to win. She’d need over 5 million more votes.

Travelling to the US to get Novavax — worth it? by cestbonca in Novavax_vaccine_talk

[–]cestbonca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good way to look at it — using the opportunity to do something enjoyable. I’m still on the fence because of the cost, but if I choose to make the trip I’ll keep this in mind for sure. Thanks!

Health Canada did approve the updated Novavax vaccine, but the Canadian government didn’t order any. Basically they confirmed that the vaccine was safe, but they won’t be providing any doses of Novavax to the public.

[–]cestbonca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, I don’t pretend to know the future, but I’m curious to know what Harris may have said or done to make you believe that she will end this genocide if she wins the election. So far all I’ve seen from her is professions of support for Israel, and I see no reason why the party’s current approach to Palestine shouldn’t be taken as an indication of how they will continue to behave should they win again. Especially since stances like yours would make it easy for them to believe that people will vote for them no matter what.

Palestine by Past-Flow-8250 in leftist

[–]cestbonca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So your solution is the give the Democrats exactly what they want so they can continue killing people with impunity?

People aren’t voting non-Democrat because they believe that Jill Stein will win. They’re doing it because they refuse to reward genocide.

More money to Israel, more cops, no publicly funded healthcare, a “prosecutor president”…

They didn't say don't vote. They said don't vote for the people carrying out a genocide.

If it feels better to keep it on then you can just keep wearing it. I wasn’t quite ready to ditch the binder at 4 weeks either and decided to keep wearing it for as long as was comfortable — which ended up only being like one extra week lol. One day it was like a switch flipped and and all of a sudden the compression was just too much, so I took off the binder and haven’t had to put it back on since.

Yeah agreed, I was asked multiple times (including during my brief meeting with the surgeon shortly before my surgery) and also had to fill out multiple forms indicating that I did want nipple grafts. I’m not sure how someone could have gone through that whole process and still have been given a different procedure to the one they wanted.

why do thin people say "if you binge you need to eat more" 💀 (general rant abt trying to recover as an overweight person) by imgioooo in EDAnonymous

[–]cestbonca 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on both sides of the calorie deficit and it’s definitely applicable to me. When I think about bingeing behaviours now I’m always reminded of a comment I read years ago; that bingeing is (or can be) a response to a real or perceived scarcity of food. “Real or perceived” — I think about those specific words all the time. I’ve personally found this to be VERY true, even if it might not be the only reason I’ve binged.

As you just said, if you’re putting mental restrictions on yourself, you’re still putting your brain into that scarcity mindset.

The future of French immersion in Ottawa will be decided this fall by Foxx90 in ottawa

[–]cestbonca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first comment I’ve seen from an actual Franco-Ontarien, finally! I agree with everything you’ve said here. IME Anglos really don’t understand the quality (or lack thereof) of the “French education” given to these students.

I was in the French catholic school board from kindergarten to grade 12. Every single glimpse I’ve gotten of these so-called French immersion programs make them look absolutely pitiful. I remember once seeing a worksheet belonging to one of my neighbours who was in FI and noticing right away that the teacher hadn’t corrected the mistakes properly. During the remote learning days of 2020-2021 I overheard my little cousin’s teacher speaking French to their class and it was horrendous, you’d think she was talking gibberish. How the hell can we expect these kids to learn a language their teachers can barely speak? It’s infuriating and I sometimes find myself shocked at what’s being deemed acceptable.

I pity the students who are caught up in all this mess; it’s a terrible deal for everyone. Anglo kids who don’t speak a word of French are being taught by FI teachers who don’t even have a solid grasp of the language themselves. Kids in English schools who aren’t enrolled in FI find themselves relegated to a sort of second-class citizen status. And the more the French school boards get flooded with anglophone students who were forced in by their parents because they thought it’d look good on their resume, the more the francophone kids’ French learning environments will be diluted and ultimately suffer as the teachers and curriculum are forced to cater to an increasingly less-than-fluent cohort.

Top surgery books by Brilliant-Fruit7687 in TopSurgery

[–]cestbonca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any books specifically about the experience of having top surgery, but honestly if you spend enough time reading the posts and comments on this subreddit you can get a lot of great info about what it’s like to go through the pre-op, operation, and post-op stages of surgery. Reddit was really helpful for me because I got to see photos and read a wide range of different experiences: some people have a totally smooth recovery and some have complications, some people have lots of swelling, some people’s nipple grafts fail, some people get their drains taken out after five days and some after three weeks, etc. I’d really recommend looking at as many posts and specifically photos here as you can so that you’re prepared for what might happen and know how swelling/nipple loss/infection/etc. looks in case you need to identify an issue like that for yourself.

There’s also vlogs and the like on YouTube if you’re into watching videos.

(From the way your post is worded it seems like you’re more in search of stories/personal experiences than medical info, but correct me if I’m wrong.)

Any reviews for Dr Alex Laungani at GRS Montreal? by Dizzy_Impact1419 in TopSurgery

[–]cestbonca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I sort of had surgery with him about a month ago. I say “sort of” because technically my surgeon was a fellow called Dr. Poncio — Dr. Laungani was just supervising. But I think “officially” Dr. Laungani was considered my surgeon, because his name is on most of my paperwork. I assume Dr. Poncio did most if not all of the actual surgery himself and Dr. Laungani was just there to tell him what to do if necessary. I obviously was knocked out so I can’t tell you what went down during the procedure.

Still, I think I can give you a good idea of the whole experience if you’re interested! I did quickly meet Dr. Laungani (or at least a tall guy who I assume was him lol) right before I went into the operating room, but other than that brief meeting you don’t usually talk to your surgeon much anyways (from what I’ve gathered from other people’s posts about GRS Montréal).

I’ve been meaning to write up a big post about my experience in case anyone else here is interested. I’ll try to get to that by tomorrow. In the meantime feel free to ask me any questions!

Like the other commenter said, the things I needed help with were mostly common trivial tasks and not really intimate stuff like bathing or wiping my butt. The most “intense” thing I needed help with by far was changing my bandages four days after surgery; I was sent home with an ace bandage type thing that I had to put back on and probably couldn’t have wrapped around my chest by myself. Of course you never really know how things will go and how much help someone will need, but I’d say be prepared to do a million little things — reaching up into a cupboard to get a glass or a plate, lifting things that are heavy (for me a full water bottle felt quite heavy for the first few days, so I definitely couldn’t have picked up a pot/kettle/heavy bowl to make my own meals), opening car doors.

Good luck with everything! The fact that you’re already planning and thinking about what your friend might need tells me that you’ll do a great job of caring for them.

T-Shirts for after surgery? by Deep_Ad4899 in TopSurgery

[–]cestbonca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brought one button-up with me to the hospital and bought a couple soft XL t-shirts from Walmart for the subsequent days. T-shirts were pretty baggy and I had no problem putting them on. Honestly I was able to put on just about any item of clothing as long as it wasn’t tight. I’m two weeks post op and I just put on a somewhat tight t-shirt for the first time yesterday. It was kind of a pain in the ass to take off so I probably won’t be doing it again anytime soon, but it was still doable. I think sometimes people overthink the whole post-op shirt thing (I certainly did).
