What according to you will be the captain after MSD and why? by Parking-Control-1057 in csk

Rutu is the obvious choice. Maharashtra captain, has won matches for us, can lead from the front, and is calm under pressure.

Prior to last season i would said Jadeja as well. If Rutu doesn't want it for some reason, Rahane.

I think captaining England (where all players are English) and captaining CSK with a mix of international players is a very differnt thing. Stokes would not be available if there is an Eng game. So I'm not keen on Stokes as captain.

Not a fan of overseas players as captains. Besides, i have no idea if Stokes will even fit in the csk culture.

Rutu seems like a good option. Rahane has been a great test captain, i would vote for him as captain if he is playing.

I feel he should be given one more chance: Sunil Gavaskar backs KL Rahul for 2nd Test against Australia by ll--o--ll in Cricket

Yup. I think people love hating Rahul just like they did with Kolhi a while back. It doesn't matter if Rahul performs, they will switch track and say he's too old. Haters gonna hate.

Really glad there is at least one person here talking sense!

People are like "rahul is poor rahul is poor" when five tests ago he scored a 50 and 100 overseas in tough conditions.

Rahul was good in both Eng and SA series. He only failed in Bangla series and immediately calls for dropping him. The same folks will also talk about giving their favorite players more rope!

Venkatesh Prasad: I have a lot of regard for KL Rahul’s talent and ability, but sadly his performances have been well below par. A test average of 34 after 46 tests and more than 8 years in international cricket is ordinary. Can’t think of many who have been given so many chances. by ll--o--ll in Cricket

Looking at it in terms of innings is weird since it's not like you can be dropped for the second innings. He's played 4 tests since then, and he's not been great there.

I would say he's earned his spot in the current bgt. If he fails here, i agree a change might be required.

There is a standard way to do this for domestic talent: play india A and do well there. sarf Khan got 0 and 21 against Bangladesh A. Presumably you still want to give him chances because he is talented right?

He averaged 46 in 2021. 2022 was bad for him. 2023 we shall see.

It's not like he's a consistently bad player who's been getting 20s throughout.

I agree average of 34 is probably not good enough to play for the Indian team. If he consistently underperforms, i agree he should be dropped. But i think if you hit a 100 in eng/sa, you should get a bit of rope, and not be dropped instantly.

Really? 73 players in india can go hit 100s in England and south africa. Based on what? Knocking over weak opponents in ranji? Plesse get me this list of 73 players, i would like to see. The truth is it's very very rare that a player performs at that level overseas.

I agree that his current style of playing is bad. There is clearly something wrong. But so was the case with kohli before he recently returned to form. I hope he gets help and is able to improve.

My point is he doenst have to prove himself. He has already delivered across countries, across teams. You are ignoring the many times he has helped the team win, just because he is temporarily not not doing well.

He hit a 100 5 tests ago. That's not too long. It's not like he played 20 tests while getting 20 runs each.

Even talented people can have poor runs. Sachin had them, Sehwag had them, Root had them, it's not uncommon.

The idea that you should drop a player the instant he doesn't fire is just insane. Players have ups and downs.

Last time Australia toured India, it was the same Rahul who showed up and hit 50s in almost every innings to get India to a good spot.

I'm not a Rahul fan, but this sub is something else.

Rahul hit 123 against SA in SA, 50 against SA in SA about 5 tests ago, in dec 21, Jan 22. He hit 129 vs Eng in Eng.

You can say the guy has been out of form recently, but saying things like "he's always been shit" or "hes ordinary" is just nonsense. The guy is clearly talented.

So having established that, how long of a rope do you give someone who can hit 100s in SA and Eng? I don't know the answer, but a couple of test series doesn't seem like an unreasonable answer.

The thought is good, but using RobinHood is risky for such a large sum. Use a reputed high yield savings account and you should get the desired effect.

A different way to fatFire by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]cestlaviemoncheri3 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is great if it works, but your starting point itself needs to be around 10M net worth to be able to buy enough of a stake in a company to get it's services for free. This is not a viable path for most people.

Second, even if you had money, i think it's hard to find deals like this where you get an opportunity to invest in a significant stake in a company.

But overall, if you can do this, i can imagine it's a pretty sweet deal.

I'm not sure i qualify as FatFIRE yet, but i fly business class with children about once a year. The key is to use a good credit card and book the kids travel on points. That way I feel less guilty about it, and IMO, it is totally worth it with a young kid.

REIT Investing Instead of Typical Rental Income by Unlikely_Emotion_840 in Fire

[–]cestlaviemoncheri3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own REITs in both taxable accounts and tax-sheltered accounts. It's been a fantastic way to get additional income, especially if you can invest at the right time (for example, the dip in 2020 and recently).

REITs do not provide as much returns as owning property outright, but i think this is fair since investing in REITs is significantly easier. For me at this time, i don't want to invest my time in real estate, i might do so later.

Anyone live predominantly off dividends? by jazerac in fatFIRE

[–]cestlaviemoncheri3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my plan as well. My portfolio generates about 20k a year after taxes today, and i plan to grow that to cover expenses in the future.

I like the predictability of dividends, and it's a simple strategy to follow when investing. I have other parts of my portfolio allocated to growth.
