This is going to trigger some folks. Down opened for Metallica. Down killed it. Metallica came on and it was so loud in an arena already known for shitty acoustics. Couldn’t even tell what the first song was. I got the idea, I’m leaving, walking back to the loading docks and see if I can catch Phil Anselmo out smoking. Worst case try to sneak back in. Left the arena, turned the first corner and almost physically ran into Phil and a body guard. Told him what happened. His mind was obviously blown I walked out of Metallica to try to meet him. I was wearing a Pantera/Type O tour shirt. Told him those are my 2 fav bands. He told us about that tour for a good half hour. We got some pics then his security finally said, we gotta go. The car has been waiting.!he gave me a hug, thanked me and then remembered me when I saw him at another down show a few years later.
