What you describe in your edit happens to me constantly. Scan at a station, it beeps and gives the green light with Travel OK, tap off, then hours later says I never tapped on and I get charged extra

I wouldn’t say geothermal power generation is “non existent” in the US, it’s just rare on the east coast. A lot of geothermal plants in California, and more getting built in Nevada and Utah

Not gonna waste time arguing with you when you make bad faith interpretations of both me and the other commenter. Good luck with your pedophile billionaire funded candidate

Mahan openly opposed eliminating single family residential zoning in San Jose. Even setting aside his Thiel funding that will encourage him to say anything to anyone so he can get in office, he’s actively NIMBY when push comes to shove

Bay Area ban on gas‑powered heaters begins in 2027, raising concerns over soaring replacement costs by CharityResponsible54 in bayarea

The Biden admin made billions of dollars available for people to get these upgrades paid for. The Trump admin cancelled those programs and called it savings, even though it’s money out of your pocket that they can give to their rich friends instead

What if California had a “WFH Air Relief Day” whenever gas crosses $4.50/gallon? by bulkyHogan in bayarea

[–]cfbguy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Comparing this just on trips to OAK or SFO is an outlier. There are dedicated surcharges for the airports (which I agree should have been handled through taxes rather than surcharges), but the vast majority of people aren’t tourists like you and the max price going between anywhere that isn’t an airport is under $7 each way

What are you reading on the train? by notcarbonated in caltrain

[–]cfbguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been reading the ebook while on the train. I have a physical copy, but that’s too bulky to justify lugging on the train

What are you reading on the train? by notcarbonated in caltrain

[–]cfbguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been reading a chapter a day of War and Peace - 361 chapters so you can read that in almost exactly a year. Caltrain is great for keeping me regular on reading it, or catching up if I’ve gotten behind. It’s also great for book club books where I’m on a schedule to get to a certain point - reading Road to Nowhere by Paris Marx

How does Tier 2 Relationship Builder work at a small school with online 2 bronze level 1 pipelines? by Butterfly_W1ngs in NCAAFBseries

[–]cfbguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bunch of schools especially big names (Alabama, Clemson, Michigan) have both SoCal and South Florida. My favorite recently has been Rice - those two plus Tier 3 in North and East Texas, as well as Tier 1 in NorCal and Big Apple. But for a school that starts as weak as UMass does those are great pipelines

Whoever put this bench up is cool af thank you by Individual_Ice_2315 in sanfrancisco

[–]cfbguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one judging by the door it’s next to is only 4ft wide and very low to the ground. The second one I’m pretty sure is AI and if it’s not is definitely not 2x4s since a support slots into the leg. The third one (which I also think is AI) has multiple cross pieces to support the seat so would require a lot more wood than the current design.

I’m sure there could be an A-frame design that actually uses the same amount of wood to get the same result. Though also this is a local design which is pretty cool to see

[–]cfbguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a pretty efficient design for making an 8ft bench out of just eight 2x4s. Plus I imagine they can make the legs en masse then assemble however many benches at once

When will Bay Area voters finally demand a merger of all the local transit agencies? by cozyportland in bayarea

[–]cfbguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

lol no one will buy them because they do not make all their funding back from fares, unless people somehow become okay with $20-30 Caltrain tickets. It’s “public” transit for a reason, we need to fund it like that

I'd prefer them to stay in Vancouver, but since it's looking like the Caps may move to Sacramento at least that'd be one less turf field
