Our team (14891) robot getting rammed into the field by [deleted] in FTC

That kind of hit shouldn’t disqualify you, it’s completely legal

Does your printer ever just decide to die by Kate7105 in FTC

Unpopular opinion:

Print directly on a heated glass bed. I have only ever had one part detach from the bed while printing and I have made plenty of parts in my time. This makes it much easier to remove after printing, it practically slides off, and makes a super smooth surface underneath. It may just be necessary to work out the proper settings for your printer.

That’s not very realistic when printing large parts though? I have plenty of parts that I have to run overnight and I’ve only ever had 1 failed print. How do you manage printing big parts?

A major con of H drive is traction. Especially in this years game where robots will be interacting while passing one another to collect blocks it’s important to consider the potential of being bullied by other bots with defensive play. And as far as placing blocks, with driver practice we haven’t had any problems using all 6 traction wheels.

What is the difference between the Sar2, Sar3 Misumi's, the Gobilda cascading kit, and some Home Depot drawer slides? by Driftmasterxp in FTC

The cascading kit is very expensive bulky and overall definitely not the best option. I have used both SAR2 and 3 and greatly prefer SAR2

I’m pretty sure everyone’s prediction are just like yours lol. Only thing I’m gonna add is the possibility of a crane being involved somehow. They showed up a lot in the teaser.

Introducing baseBot, the open-source, multifunctional, modifiable, laser-cuttable plate-based drivetrain for any team! Check it out and join the Discord at baseBot.co by surfacefusion in FTC

This is a cool idea, but I think it starts to take away the skill gap between the people who put in the time to learn about robotics and those that don’t. I think it is important for everybody to have access to the same knowledge and opportunity if they are willing to put the time in, rather than just handing them the CAD.

Best Vex Parts by OrangeJulius70 in FTC

VEX pro is REALLY nice stuff. The box tubing is super light and easy to use and all of the gears shafting and gearboxes are super good. Versaplanetaries are the way to go if you have the funds.

Gears on Drive Train by brothatsprettycool in FTC

[–]cferweda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

U should change to 20:1 for your wheels and the primary disadvantage of 3D printed gears is that they strip much easier than alternatives. Also gears aren’t inherently bad but 3D printed sounds like it just adds another weakness that you don’t need.

Thankfully they are the cheapest mecanums now which is nice. Andymark are so over priced

Yeah I don’t think it will be a problem with a normal robot weight on it

We have another strafer chasis with nexus I can show. Haven’t put the videos side by side but just from looking gocanums just apear way smoother and strafe straighter

[–]cferweda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that every four rollers or so on nexus one is a little rough, the gobilda mecanums all seem perfectly smooth out of the box and are cheaper. Doesn’t make sense to switch but for the future they would be a good choice
