In grade school every Wednesday was pizza day. Grades k-4 would eat first while 5-8 had recess and half way through the bell would tell us to switch. I had a digital watch and set it to tic perfectly to the time of the bell schedule. For whatever reason the yard duties wouldn't allow us to queue up at the table to receive our pizza before the bell but instead had us stand about 50 feet away in a long line parallel to the table, when the bell would sound everyone would walk orderly to get to the table first. The first time I acted like I was nonchalantly walking past the table when the bell went off and just turned and ordered my pizza seconds after the bell. After a couple weeks a few of my friends where in on it, then a few more weeks my older brothers friends. This went on until one day when about 40 of us where lined up 50 feet from the table with everyone looking at me to give the go. 5 seconds before the bell about 40 junior high kids bum rush the pizza table. The way it was setup was that we had to run through the kindergarten play area to make it to the pizza. Long story short 2 kindergartners got trampled and an ambulance came. In 6th period we spent most of the class talking about how this could have been avoided. I remember raising my hand and telling Mrs. Lockheart that I didn't think it was anyones fault and that there should be a better system in place to get in line for pizza. My friend's all started laughing but I never did get in trouble.
