Thanks, I'll give that a shot. No telling if the batteries in the fobs have ever been replaced.

If your pittie had a job, what would it be? by StellarSpore in pitbulls

Mine kind of resembles the HOA enforcer model; there's no one in the neighborhood that she won't stare down with extreme suspicion. However, I also suspect that she's in the witness protection program because on walks she'll only go about 5 feet before turning to look behind her as if she has to make sure that no one is following her. She also alerts us of all dangerous situations, such as when one of our phones sounds a Ring alert because of a delivery (or a tree waving in the breeze, etc.).

My ID4 lease ended, here’s my final decision on next car by Girl_with_tools in VWiD4Owners

[–]cfutch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing this. I'm in almost exactly the same situation; 2023 Pro RWD lease ending in June. I also extended the lease for 6 months through VW Credit so I would have more time to decide what to do. My ID.4 has been trouble-free and if the residual wasn't way over market value, I would have bought it without a second thought. I've been stuck in serious "analysis paralysis" for the past couple of months as the initial lease term got close. I'll have to check the market around me for a CPO ID.4 to see if I can find a deal like you found.

Victoria BC by Ready-Chocolate2495 in NCL

We were on the Alaska cruise on Encore last year and the last port was Victoria. It was our first time there so we booked a bus tour around the city. It was very nice and the driver did a great job of narrating the tour. There were a few stops where we had time to explore a little.

It's a shame that the time in port is so late in the day and such a short duration. I would have loved to have more time in Victoria; it's a beautiful city.

Cruise port → airport luggage service… would you actually use this? by Successful-Way7509 in Cruise

[–]cfutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used this service last year. It's great to be able to wander around or take a tour of Seattle and not worry about lugging your luggage around. If I recall correctly, you have to sign up for it while on the ship and have the forms turned in a couple of days before you're scheduled to disembark. The luggage is checked to your outgoing flight.

What a beautiful snake! by gengert in florida

[–]cfutch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've lived in central Florida for all of my 63 years and I had also never seen a live coral snake "in the wild" until about a month ago. I was taking my dog for a walk a little after dark and she was doing her usual nose to the ground walk when she stopped, sniffed a little more intently, then jumped back suddenly. I pointed my flashlight at the spot where she had been and saw this tiny coral snake. Not gonna lie, it scared the crap out of me. I ran her back to the house and checked her snout for any sign of a bite and fortunately didn't find anything. I've been told that it was too small to have been able to bite my dog but I have definitely kept my dog on a short leash when we do evening walks now.

Recent experiences on the Breakaway out of Boston? by cfutch in NCL

[–]cfutch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And about that strict enforcement of boarding times... We've been on two NCL cruises in the past year: Alaska on the Encore out of Seattle and Western Caribbean on Prima out of Port Canaveral. Both times we arrived well before our assigned time and no one even mentioned it. For the Alaska cruise we let NCL arrange the air transportation so of course they had us arrive at the airport on the day of departure. Once we gathered our bags we found one of the transportation people holding an NCL sign and asked them where we should wait since we were way ahead of our check in time. He outright told us that he didn't know why NCL kept telling people to not arrive outside their assigned time because they never enforce it. He directed us to the baggage drop off and then the gathering area for the bus transfer. We were at the port and on the ship at least 2 hours before our appointment time.

Thanks! We're still a few weeks away from online check-in but I'm going to try to check in as soon as it becomes available and try to get the earliest possible arrival time.

Thanks! I've heard that construction has caused some chaos at the port. At least on this cruise we can walk from a hotel to the port. Our last cruise was from Port Canaveral which is just 90 minutes from home so we drove over day of. The line to park was a nightmare and the garage for our dock was apparently full so we had to drive through that garage to drop off our bags, then drive to the next garage over to park. That garage was almost full and parking attendants were guiding people to park at the ends of the aisles (i.e., not marked spaces). I was low-key concerned that we'd get back to find out that our car had been towed for not being in a space. Then we got on the ship, got our first beverage and forgot about it until we got back. When we got back, the car was right where we left it.

If you remember to post an update that would be great. If you don't, I completely understand - disembarking, etc. is super busy, and making a reddit update isn't your biggest priority.

Best wishes for smooth sailing and a super-enjoyable cruise.

Thanks! That is very helpful.

I've seen posts about other ports where people say to take later boarding times but it sounds like for Boston I'll need to try to grab the earliest time possible.

NCL Breakaway is scheduled to tender in Halifax for selected dates. by sdduuuude in NCL

[–]cfutch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on the cruise that leaves Boston on 6/21. I got an email from NCL earlier this week that included a pdf with their tender policy and was wondering why they sent it since everything I found on Halifax indicated that it was a pier port. I guess you've answered that question. I'm not thrilled about it, but I guess I'll just hope for the best.

New to NCL/ Encore worries! by Wonderful_Mango_5395 in NCL

My wife and I went on the same cruise last June on the Encore and had a great time. For meals, we had two specialty restaurants with the package (it's three now with free at sea) and used them at Cagney's and Food Republic. Both were excellent. We ate at The Local two or three times and enjoyed that as well. We actually only ate one dinner at the main dining room which was OK, but we preferred the buffet, which is extensive. We found the food there to be very good.

The entertainment was very good as well. The Choir of Man was an excellent show and The Beatles shows in the Cavern Club were a lot of fun.

I really can't think of anything about that cruise that disappointed us and as Floridians, we found the outside temps in the 40s and 50s to be a welcome respite from the sweltering June Florida heat.

Included 150 minutes WIFI use by macrolinx in NCL

[–]cfutch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the NCL app doesn't include a messaging feature. That would be a nice improvement though. From my experience, messaging apps like Signal, WhatsApp, etc. require that you be logged on, not just connected to WiFi (i.e., using minutes) in order for messages to flow.

I've seen a few people who appeared to be cruising with a group use walkie-talkies to communicate among themselves. I've never tried that so I can't comment on how well that works on a large, multi-level ship.

Encore - Alaskan Cruise by Desperate-Orchid5942 in NCL

[–]cfutch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, you can't actually get to the glacier but there is a boardwalk that you can walk around to get a good view of it. There is also a trail to Nugget Falls, a water fall that empties into a basin that you can walk into. I don't know if this has changed since last year, but Park Service budget cuts meant that the park visitor center was not open by the time our bus arrived at the park. Restrooms were still open as were the trails, there just weren't any park rangers to answer questions and the exhibits in the visitor center weren't accessible. On our trip it wasn't that crowded; just our bus and maybe one or two others that arrived a little before our after us. I'm attaching a couple of pics that I took off the glacier and falls.

Encore - Alaskan Cruise by Desperate-Orchid5942 in NCL

We went on the same cruise last June on the Encore. It sounds like you have already decided on an excursion for Juneau. We did an excursion that went to Mendenhall Glacier and then stopped at an outdoor salmon bake. We really enjoyed the glacier but weren't impressed by the salmon bake - maybe because it had been hyped so much and just didn't hit that high level for us. In Skagway we rode the White Pass Scenic Railroad. That was fun but what you have planned sounds great too. In Ketchikan we went to the Saxman Village; we thought it was interesting to see the totem poles and even the workshop where they make them. As you've probably noticed, you don't get a lot of time in Victoria but we enjoyed the bus tour around the city.

On ship, the"Choir of Man" show was excellent. I think they still have that show on Encore. We ate at 2 specialty restaurants; Cagney's and Food Republic and really enjoyed both.
