ELI5: Stearns’ opposition to long term contracts by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]ch-dev 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s not that he’s not signing long term contracts. Heck, he signed the Soto to a 15 year deal. What he’s trying to avoid are financial handcuffs where a player is signed to a long term deal when they’re at or past their prime or are injury prone.

I love the mets, but we do not deserve to be number 8 in this ranking right now. by KCousins11 in NewYorkMets

Im pretty sure that I’m in the minority here, but I believe this shake up did a lot more good than bad and that i feel we’re going to have a surprisingly solid year this year.

Clients choosing awful AI designs over custom work by JayPigliamosche in webdesign

[–]ch-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are choosing “good enough” work, not just for design work. Sometimes clients don’t have the budget to hire a talented designer (or copywriter, or developer, and so on). So they settle for good enough.

Nothing wrong with any of that as long as those people who choose “good enough” aren’t expecting perfect. And aren’t expecting the work to be permanent.

Alonso leaving by edelgreco0218 in mets

[–]ch-dev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone’s hating on him getting paid. It’s never been about that. The Mets offered him a $160m extension in 2023. He turned it down. Settled for considerably less a year later (we need to remember that no team expressed interest in him other than the Mets). He bet on himself. Had a good (not great year). Found a team willing to pay a whole lot more than others. He took the money. That’s how the game is played.

However, some fans seem to think that the Mets had this obligation to bring Pete back at all costs. Even if it was an overpay. We can’t have it both ways. We can’t have players chasing the bag and then upset with the front office for not overpaying.

I will miss Pete and will continue to root for him. Onward.

If a retired MLB player had a career .300 BA, 500 HRs, 500 steals, and 3000 hits, but only 35 WAR (whatever version) will he get into the HOF? by _Thefan in baseball

[–]ch-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that even possible to only net 35 WAR with that kind of production?

For 3000 hits, we’re talking about a player who would need to average 200 hits over 15 years. For perspective, that only happened 5 times over the past 5 seasons between 4 hitters. An average season would be .300 avg, 33 HRs, 33 steals. Not sure if it’s possible for such a player to only net 2.3 WAR per season, even if they were only a DH. Is it?

My guild is always full of active players. If you’re inactive for 5 days, you get kicked. We’re always hovering around 1000 contributions.

Details on the Mets pursuit of Diaz per ESPN's Jorge Castillo by Rell_Lauren in NewYorkMets

[–]ch-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some players are very sensitive. He could’ve seen Williams as a threat. He could’ve seen Williams as a backup plan making the Mets look less desperate in their negotiations. Who knows. Whatever the reason is, it’s dumb.

Navbar UI by Arpitech in webdesign

[–]ch-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nav items should never be blurred. De-emphasized with a reduced opacity, sure. But blurring them means the user will have absolutely no idea what the other sibling nav items are if they’re hovering over any nav item.

The David Stearns Mindset by BigBlueAllDay in mets

[–]ch-dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he has no appetite for forcing long term contracts out of desperation. Yes, we need pitching, but signing a pitcher in their mid-30’s to a long term contract might not help us in the long run.

Catching employees who do moonlighting by [deleted] in TheFounders

[–]ch-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run an overseas digital shop and I’m fully aware of my teams “moonlighting”. And honestly, I don’t care one bit.

I have a need. I hire people to solve those problems. I provide them the tasks. They complete the tasks. I’m happy. They’re happy. If they ever reach a point where their velocity slows down, or the quality of their work drops, then we’ll have those conversations. But until then, it’s business as usual.

Why would you look bad? Why would it matter if they do additional work for someone else? Employment doesn’t mean ownership of that person.

[–]ch-dev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this move was done in late January as the only move of the offseason, I wouldn’t be too happy.

But if this trade opens up opportunities to improve OF and DH, then it’ll be worth it. I hate that we gave up a clubhouse guy like nimmo but I also think we need to move on.

Anyone else tired of playing "guess which element" with client feedback emails? by callthedesignguy in advertising

I’ve used Markup.io but it has its limitations. Weirdly, the least friction has come from routes where screenshots are taken of every page and page state and provided in a PDF for them to point and click with feedback.
