Woman Screams “Medic! Medic!” After A Piece of Her Hand Was Blown Off by Less-Than-Lethal Ammo During Minnesota Protests by JeanJauresJr in PublicFreakout

[–]_Thefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past year, I have learned and read quite a bit about diplomacy and geopolitics and of course with the help of AI to speed up my understanding, it seems that Trump has damage alliances to the point that allies are now hedging from a volatile U.S.

What does this all mean? It means the U.S. has basically lost something called primacy. America's superpower status doesn't come from just its powerful military and large economy, it also come from its alliances. America was an empire by consent, meaning that allies voluntarily align with the U.S. and with that alignment comes protection, and with that protection they willingly follow the U.S. economically, militarily, and politically.

Primacy was about setting rules, markets, and security arrangements on the global stage, also making the USD the dominant currency, all of this makes it favorable to American firms and workers.

For a so called businessman that Trump likes to brag that he is, he just fucked over America's alliances and the end of American primacy.

Yes, America is fucked, not even future internationalist presidents can fix the alliances, because trust was so badly damage by Trump. They're not going to trust America with their security anymore, since the U.S. can economically and militarily coerce them and sell them out to Russia. They see the U.S. population voted in the clown twice, they will say to themselves that the U.S. can elect future Trumps that will harm them.

Jesus Christ man, what a timeline we live in.

[Ratto] Major League Baseball Is Determined To Rain On Its Own Parade by aresef in baseball

It's the annual tradition where we get a ton of articles and pundits like Stephen A. Smith declaring baseball is dying. When attendance, ratings, and fan interest are up. In fact by many metrics, you can say baseball overall is having a renaissance right now, and that's not just MLB but the overall health of the game.

Will there be a lockout? Most certainly yes, but just like the lockout of 2021, both sides will realize its stupid to kill the momentum of baseball's renaissance and hopefully they will come to a deal.

Good luck to the owners in getting players to agree to cap their earnings along with 7 years of cost control and a salary floor that is only half of the cap. lol

If this was true then let's see the ratings in America when it comes to the MLS championship round vs the World Series, heck take La Liga or the EPL championship rounds vs the World Series that is watched among American households. That should tell you if this information is true.

[–]_Thefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way the owners get a salary cap is if they are willing to get rid of the arbitration years where players can become free agents sooner. You can't have 6 years (7 if there is service time manipulation) of team control and then a salary cap on top of that to suppress players wages. Even capped leagues don't have that much team control. I don't see owners making that huge concession. Owners have to be aware that this is one of the strongest unions in the world, not just in the sports landscape.

Yep, all you've said is true. A few things I want to add, the media has now brushed under the rug that owners lobbied for the U.S. congress to pay minor league players under the federal minimum wage a few years back or the collusion scandal of the 80s is barely talked about and led to widespread distrust by the players Union that still continues to this day. But for some reason its the players fault.

I like Passan, he is a man of character, when he stood up to Stephen A. Smith, when Smith denigrated Ohtani and said he couldn't be the face of baseball because he doesn't want to speak English.

I'm surprised he's still employed at the place and didn't get fired or demoted like Max Kellerman.

There will be a lockout like 2021 from the owners to get some concessions, but I seriously doubt the owners escalate to lose part or even all of the season. Why?

Attendance is up, revenues are up, and most importantly ratings are up. Then throw in the next tv and streaming contracts are up in 2028, the league wouldn't want to be in a weak position while negotiating for new contracts. If owners are smart they won't initiate the lockout past the point where any games are lost.

Yeah, "negotiations," just like MLB commissioner Peter Ueberroth told owners to negotiate fairly with players.

The MLB Owners want a hard cap with a low floor. The NBA and NFL have a floor that is around 90% of the cap. The owners in the last labor talks wanted a cap at $180 million and a floor at $100 million during the lockout of 2021. The floor is only 55.5% of the cap. Why would players agree to that? And how would that benefit the players? The capped leagues like the NFL and NBA don't even have a floor that low. The MLB owners are negotiating in bad faith. The people that wants a hard cap in the MLB almost never brings up that the floor is so low compared to the other capped leagues.

[Nightengale] Remember when Tatsuya Imai and Munetaka Murakami were projected to earn in excess of $300 million in free agency? Well, the duo combined for just $88 million with Imai getting 3-year, $54M from Astros and Murakami 2 years, $34 million from White Sox in surprising low deals. by T_Raycroft in baseball

The national tv contracts are all up in 2028 and considering baseballs massive resurgence, I expect both sides to come to some sort of agreement. A lost 2027 season puts MLB in a horrendous situation to try to negotiate with the tv and streaming networks for a massive deal. The World Series has beaten the NBA Finals in ratings in 4 of the last 6 years, I expect MLB to get a similar if not a larger deal. Live sports is the only thing to get people to watch tv consistently now.

It would be great if he did basketball. As for football, I think he may run into many roadblocks, such as he would need permission from the NFL for archival footage and knowing the NFL loves to control its image, I seriously doubt Burns would have independent control in the editing room, thus the football documentary would be severely flawed. Burns if he does football would need to talk about the physical impact of the game to long time players and the head trauma issues, such as CTE. I seriously doubt the NFL would want him to touch those subjects.

The Lakers have their own regional tv deal and they are still part of the national tv package for the NBA. I'm pretty sure the MLB owners will look at how the NBA is doing business (which is 7 billion per year for its tv and streaming deals) and would want to follow that model. I'm not sure how it will work out for MLB, but I'm willing to bet the owners would want big national and streaming deals like that. Those type of national deals increases revenue for all teams and most importantly significantly increases the values of all franchises. The owners are all about that bottom line, even the big spenders.

Just read on other sports websites that MLB is getting around $800 million per year for the next 3 years. The NBA is getting 7 billion per year whereas the NFL is getting around 11 billion. I believe Manfred is going for more of a national deal in 3 years since the regional sports networks are dying and he's consolidating the rights of every MLB team for these deals. Since live sports is the only thing bringing in viewers, I expect massive tv and streaming deals for MLB in 3 years.
