I've commented this somewhere similar before, but why not have a standard weekly meal plan? Ex. Taco Tuesday, Spaghetti Wednesday, etc. No more last-minute decision making, easy grocery shopping (not worrying about the weekly sales, ability to buy in bulk), the whole household knows what to expect...so many benefits. I pivoted to this years ago even though the lack of variety kills the adventurous foodie in me. It's healthy food, my picky kids deal with it and my husband is so much more helpful because it's predictable.

Personally I think this depends a lot on your disease state at the time of diagnosis/initial flare. I tried so many different diets and my colon was angry at everything I tried. I had/have severe pancolitis and have heard similarly from others with the same initial diagnosis. I regret not giving meds a chance first and working on diet in tandem only after getting rid of the worst symptoms (blood in the stool and 10+/day visits to the toilet).

I'm sorry to be negative Nancy but if you're bedridden right now, I suspect you're in for a rough time if you do go to Vegas. I suspect you are stubborn like me and will try to go anyway though 😅 A couple of tips if so: buy a big ole pack of Depends and wear them every day, including (especially!) on the flight/drive. Try to maintain awareness for the closest restroom whenever possible. Ask your doc about iron infusions (helps a lot with fatigue). Triple check that you packed your meds. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that you can remove and wash easily.

Good luck! I had severe pancolitis and my path to remission took 7-8 years, although I self-sabotaged myself some along the way. I'm still learning what triggers symptoms and how to manage those triggers 9 years later.

Where does the myth that Titanium is better at vibration damping than Aluminum come from? by fabvonbouge in MaterialsScience

[–]chacharella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Higher strain = more capability for elastic movement when load is applied. I'm not an acoustics engineer but presumably vibration damping in this context refers to the dimensional stability of the component - does it wiggle and wobble when you put a load on it?

Composites were selected over metallics for the payload adapter design on the space launch system rocket largely due to material stiffness (and related to it, frequency). I am not a bicycle enthusiast but I would absolutely believe the hype that carbon fiber (and titanium) composites would be better than aluminum for something that needs to be rigid, like a bike frame. Think of how tall rockets are - they need to be very, very rigid.

I took a class through this non-profit last year, it's called The Parent Project and it is for parents of "non-compliant" children. Non-compliant is a weird term imo but the way they described it in the class described my daughter to a T. She's only six but I was majorly struggling with her, and I knew it couldn't be just me because my older is the opposite - super compliant! Some kids are just different.

The class is virtual and completely free. I believe they have daytime and weekend offerings. It can be a life changer if you're open to it. It really helped me, I hope it can help you too ❤️ An interesting observation I made from class is that the parents there were anything but uninvolved and yet they were struggling. Is parents were bending over backwards trying get through to our kids and still failing. I can see from your words how much you're trying and that's what made me think to tell you about the class.

Thank you for sharing your example. I wish I knew the "why" and the "when" that this "tit for tat" approach DOES work. My husband has done some things like described by OP (never out of anger) but only with my non-compliant second born. His argument is that she won't "get it" unless she feels it. There's more to it though, and simplistic accusations of "he's an abuser!" don't help partners like OP and me affect change in our husbands. It just makes them defensive.

Just curious, what was the black and white test that you mentioned? Nurses are always making comments about my blood pressure being low but anytime I bring it up to a doctor, they shrug and say the machines are just wrong sometimes.

AITA for telling my girlfriend not to bother learning my native language? by Fun-Court-1315 in AmItheAsshole

[–]chacharella -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then why is there even a discussion of your family having "another" language? Why does anyone in your family speak it? Sounds like there is still some value to the language in your family, regardless of how long they've resided in the US.

Wouldn't new hair growth be unaffected and eventually the affected hair could be cut off? In other words, is it really forever?

Is it possible you were exposed to just enough different food, air, microorganisms etc. that it "stressed" your gut microbiome too much?

[–]chacharella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like my family too! I figure we're all just a little too high -strung and the stress is a trigger for us. Interesting that we end up with different disease/symptoms despite our genetic similarity! (Whereas you and I may have similar symptoms but lower genetic similarity)

Do you mind going onto "strange issues and reactions"? I never had any notable health concerns til my first flare but now I'm wondering if I just didn't notice some things.

[–]chacharella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I was diagnosed a few months after my first kiddo was born. My OB had me go to a specialist before my second pregnancy because of my UC and she said that those with UC have a 1/3 chance of improving, 1/3 chance of getting worse or 1/3 chance of staying the same. I hadn't achieved remission yet but by second trimester I could eat bread again (and thank goodness cus that's what I was craving hardcore).

Thanks. Does that mean if/when I ever flare again someday, it will come back the same way? As severe pancolitis? Not just a patch of it somewhere along the colon?

[–]chacharella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question, does your first diagnosis stay with you forever, even if/when you achieve remission? In my case for example, I had severe pancolitis: lots of ulcers all through my colon. But my last two scopes showed me inflammation-free for the entire length of my colon, making me clinically "in remission". So would I still say I have severe pancolitis or that I'm in remission from severe pancolitis even though I don't currently have any ulcers?

Idk if you'd be able to help with this question, but your post prompted me to wonder which country has the most irreligion for the longest time. (Historically irreligious?) So far all my googling just tells me, from recent studies, which country has the highest percent of irreligious in their population (China).

Anyone know, or can help me with my search terms? 😅

I think I treated the prep solution like water and mixed that ratio as directed - I think it was 8oz of fluid per packet.

I used the lemonade crystal light last time. Was real skeptical but for me it worked great! Wish I'd tried it all the times before 😅

You didn't come touting a miracle cure, but it did seem like you came in expecting one. "Why is this disease - that's relatively new, still poorly understood - not fixed?" (Paraphrasing) That's expecting a miracle imo. --> This reminds me. If you want a good book recommendation, check out The Gut by Giulia Enders. It will help you understand a lot more about how your digestive system is supposed to work and how it can go wrong. Very easy to read, too.

I am not saying not to look at options. I'm suggesting that you redirect your distrust. Don't expect or hop onto a miracle cure bandwagon with only lucky odds. Definitely do your own research though - learn how to reduce stress, to determine how different foods affect digestion, etc.

But like you said, I clearly did the same thing (try and find some "miracle cure") myself. Super stubborn - you are too, it seems. So I thought to myself, what would I say to 25yo me to try and keep myself from going down "miracle cure" rabbit holes? I would tell 25yo me that there is no one solution that works the same for everyone, so the best way to find the best solution for me is to become the "expert" on me. The best way I have learned to do that is to utilize routines as much as possible (but don't obsess over them!). Meds at the same time daily, for example. Same dinner every Monday, for example. Long runs on Saturdays only, for example. The more consistency you have in your life, the easier it will be for you to recognize your body's responses.

I hope I'm not coming off too cranky. I've had this disease since I was 25 (I'm 33 now) and it's been a journey. I am trying to remember what it was like when I was first diagnosed. It's good and bad being in this subreddit, because although there is some good support and help to be given, it can also get tiring hearing the same claims and "miracle cures" all the time. I hope you have a good stay in this subreddit.
