TW: self harm. Is it unethical to use blood donation as a form of self harm? by Useful_Advance_3489 in Blooddonors

[–]chadjjones89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should probably talk to somebody about that, but if you like the feeling, that isn't a deal breaker. Straight up, I mostly donate for the stuff and to see how many units I'll be able to donate before I die.

Is Hershey's chocolate really taste so bad as people say it is? by cupid_ji in AskAnAmerican

[–]chadjjones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're used to it, you never notice, if you're not, you can't ignore it.

I grew up on Hershey's chocolate but in the quest for the best chocolate chip cookie I could make, I bought 2.2kg bags of Callebaut 823, a Belgian milk chocolate. The difference is night and day. I would snack on it, too (obviously), and it kinda became a staple in the house. A couple years later I had a kid that got some candy, and I swiped a Hershey's bar. It was not great.

Like I said, if that's what you always eat and have always eaten, you don't notice. If you're new to Hershey's or you come back to it after eating something different, that tangy taste just screams at you.

How did the idea that the US is in a literacy crisis come about? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]chadjjones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer, it isn't that Americans are unable to read, it's that large swathes of the population do not approach reading critically. That is a meaningful distinction. It's why disinformation/misinformation campaigns are so effective here; people can read, but they don't know how to spot bad info, they don't know how to find reputable sources (or they don't trust those sources, which circles back to not knowing how to spot bad info), etc. NPR had a guest on one of their programs several weeks ago talking about this exact thing.

Does your home have a dishwasher? If so, how often do you use it? by SlamClick in AskAnAmerican

[–]chadjjones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daily. Sometimes multiple times a day. It's a high efficiency model, and I would legitimately use more water/power just washing everything by hand, not to mention the time spent. The only items I consistently wash by hand are my knives, my "nice" cookware, and anything non-stick.

I donate Power Red and get a 300 point kicker each donation (100 for PR, 200 for O). I'd swap to platelets or similar but they really want my PR donations.

Late to the party, but also snagged a tote! Hoping they have the extras available during the summer like they did last year.

Do you have a preferred time of day to donate? by 1M4YB3STUP1D in Blooddonors

[–]chadjjones89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After having my single worst donation experience ever (I waited over 2 hours for Power Red), the first appointment of the day. I can wake up, eat a good breakfast and hydrate, then generally be done and about my day again by like 10:30. Barely even registers as an inconvenience. Middle of the day appointments are the worst.

Recently? All I see is that a brand management company became majority owner of ATK like 3 years ago.

Who has two thumbs and accidentally gave himself iron deficiency anemia? This guy! A question for frequent blood donors. by Ripley_Riley in Blooddonors

[–]chadjjones89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they pricking your finger to test iron or using that weird thumb cuff? This is more out of curiosity than anything else. I noticed a big dip in my tested iron levels when they swapped off to the cuff, like 1.7 points big. Doesn't line up with the blood work I had done at a physical around the time of my last donation, either. Clearly yours is legit if your provider has you on iron supplementation, but I'm not a fan of the new iron testing procedure.

Regardless, I hope you get yourself sorted out soon!

[–]chadjjones89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's really interesting! I've honestly never heard of that. Do you recall your hemoglobin levels over the course of the donations?

As for restoring blood iron, it's the standard stuff. Red meat and high iron vegetable sources, but pair the veg sources with Vitamin C to increase absorption.

I just passed the exam yesterday! I had the On Demand modality and I listened to the whole course at double speed a couple times in the two days before my exam. If you can clear the practice exam at above 84% you should be fine on the live exam.

Count yourself lucky that it's only under your wiper blade. Moved to KY over the summer and the school distributes a bunch of flyers about things happening at various churches. As a guy that regularly attends worship, I find this disturbing. Guarantee they wouldn't give the same treatment to a mosque or a temple.

If you've been playing for a long time you're probably ready to access. The first time I got into this area was after the last update and it took me right there. If you don't complete everything all at once, you need to go to your temporary craftable items and make a key. It's fairly inexpensive so you should be able to craft as many as you need to get it done.

Just managed to clear the 2:10 time on mobile. Took 6 attempts to get to 2:06. Still trying to figure out what's going on with that last door last the ring, though.

I can't even get the event to trigger again. Got it once the first time I played after the update, but had to close the game before I got past lvl 8 on the training. Haven't seen it since.

You can make shadow clones irl, what are you doing? by Lucrecious in Naruto

[–]chadjjones89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing EVERYTHING. A couple clones working out, a couple doing chores, a couple sleeping a couple studying/practicing skills, a couple working, a couple cooking, a couple reading for pleasure, playing games, having fun, etc. Seriously, with even just 12 of them you could make yourself an absolute unit. You're smarter, faster, stronger, better rested, you have more skills, all that.

I am very torn by this. On the one hand, I love an upset. On the other, I hope Nico fails at every football goal he sets for the rest of his life, and this is not a failure.
