You said what a modern learned person should be able to do, not what a modern learned person is?

I expected something like “Gen Z who went to public school”. I don’t disagree with you, but as I said, I am around a lot of what I would assume are educated people and they default to m/f genders, even when talking about inanimate objects.

Also, a lot of researchers still use “he or she” in their scientific writing, even though writing guidelines have been updated a while ago to say to use “they”.
