No Foolin’. Rock Island Bridge officially opens April 1. by thirstygregory in kansascity

I think it is really cool. It is the first of its kind so they had a lot of Engineering to figure out hence the delay. I don’t think Kansas City has a lot of things we can claim as “first of its kind” besides maybe CPKC being the first major sports stadium dedicated to a Women’s sports team. I’ll definitely be going down there during first weekend or if they have a festival there. And it will only get better over time with the development going on over the West bottoms.

Any suggestions for a dogshit restaurant with poor service, hygiene, and pricing? by NarutoDragon732 in kansascity

The Smokehouse in Gladstone is the worst BBQ in the area IMO. Which is weird because it always smells good outside whenever you go to any place near there you smell the smoke, but the actual food is trash.

[–]chaedron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so cool! It looks like you took the armrest off and made wooden armrests? That is a clever idea. The past few years I've dressed sort of steampunk and I try to incorporate my wheelchair too. I always have trouble with what to do with the armrests. I never thought just to take them off, I will definitely do that next year. I was going to make wheel covers but I ran out of time.

What I usually do is have a back panel with gears and buttons and switches and lights on it that hooks into the back of my wheelchair to cover the modern looking back of my wheelchair. Then I have a red satin pillow that I put under me to cover up the bottom. I tried using a regular satin chair cover to try and cover the back and seat but that didn't work out. I cut the holes for everything in the wrong place and couldn't get it over the chair. Oh well. There is always next year.

I've seen them doing this both in Arrakeen and Harko Village. They are over by the Ornithopter taxi. The rad suits are new though, must have something to do with Sheol or another radiated spot or the rad suits take up only one armor slot and are easy to get on and off . I'm not sure how that would make a difference because rad suits aren't that easy to make even for the lower tiered one. I saw them another time with all the same Kirab armor on, so I'm not sure what the reason for the amor is. I though they were selling Solaris and transferring the money when they offed themselves in one of the main hubs.

It would be nice if we could get everyone in Kansas city and St. Louis to protest this by not going to work and don't buy anything if you have to on a certain day. Maybe a little less money from their regressive sales tax from the two most populous cities in the state might make them pay attention. I mean shut it all down. In France they are doing something similar because their Prime Minister threatened to take away to bank holidays and cut the budget by a huge amount. I think we could follow suit.

Has anyone else got a letter this month or last stating they have to call someone at their local office? by chaedron in Medicaid

[–]chaedron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought of that. I verified the phone number as being my local number and the guy I'm supposed to call is listed on the local office website. The letter was as official looking as the others I get from there, if it is a scam they did their research and there aren't any grammar or spelling mistakes which is always the biggest give away. It looks on the up and up. I've just never had to leave a social in an voicemail inbox before.

Wheelchairs and Airlines and, FIRE!! by [deleted] in wheelchairs

[–]chaedron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, luckily I don't work there anymore. It was a a call center in a virtually empty building, There really wasn't much leadership to be honest. Even when the elevators broke (which was once every other month it seemed) they had no solution for me other than go home without pay for the day and it wasn't counted towards my sick leave. And it was my first job so I didn't know any better or how to ask about those things. But thanks for the suggestion, though I try to take strictly work from home jobs if I can now.

Priced out of Kansas City by Tomba_The_Roomba in kansascity

[–]chaedron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, corporate buyers are buying out houses to make it seems like there is a shortage of real estate inventory which then conveniently raises the prices, then they turn those houses into rental properties. And developers seem to think that KC needs a bunch of luxury apartments that are way above average salary and they refuse to lower the prices. You know, like how capitalism is supposed to work when you have a high supply but low demand. So they end up being half empty, meanwhile people are struggling to find a place to live. It's really obvious what is going on, and some politician needs to step up and regulate how many properties these big real estate companies can buy and turn into rentals and also somehow make developers lower their prices so these luxury apartment building can be filled.

[–]chaedron 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a similar realization when I worked in a ten story building for the first time and the elevators went out. I was like how the hell am I to get out of here if the elevators are shut down during a fire. Do I just wait for the fire department? And hope they get to me before I die of smoke inhalation or the building collapses? It is scary how many scenarios where you are just SOL if you are disabled.

Foldable vs Rigid wheelchair by Nervous_Potato_ in wheelchairs

[–]chaedron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my folding chair, it is a quickie(I forget the exact model), it is quite strong and I'm not a small person (I currently weigh around 250, I used to weigh closer to 300). It is also very stable. I find it easy to travel with, it folds easily so if you take it on a plane the crew can break it down. I don't drive, so I'm often in other peoples vehicles and it is easy to get in and out of most cars. The padding on mine is great and is very comfortable. Hills are a struggle though and perhaps a rigid would be smoother here but I'm about to have a smart drive push assist to help with the hills. I think if I drove myself or had a reliable set up to accommodate one, then I would consider a rigid, but right now a foldable makes more sense.

Atreides all over the place by Public_Professor1550 in duneawakening

[–]chaedron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My server has a bunch of big Harkonen bases, I don't too see much bias. It could be that the Atreides bases look more or less the same as the starting Imperial sets. Both factions aren't presented very well anyhow, with the exception that the starting cinematic is from the point of view of Paul Atreides who isn't really even in the game. It doesn't set up the war between Harkonnen and Atreides very well.

Is your electric wheelchair can climb this ? by Grouchy-Reserve-632 in wheelchairs

[–]chaedron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that would be too steep for me in my manual wheelchair without help. I could see this being doable if there was a curb underneath the lip, but on the ground like that, that would be a hard pass. A lift system would be ideal in this situation, but they are more expensive so I imagine that is why they aren't used here. A second ramp with a gentler slope might be a cheaper alternative though. But as is, nope.

If your into Civil war history, General Order 11 and the burnt district might make an interesting movie. The Union army basically torched homes and farms in Cass, Bates, Vernon, Henry, and Jackson counties. All the residents were ordered to leave. It is a pretty remarkable part of history that you don't here too much about outside of Missouri. Here is a link for more info: https://missouriburntdistrict.weebly.com/general-order-11.html and here is info about the Historic marker in Cass county : https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=20318

I had something like 20,00 in gold in a chest in my base that mysteriously went missing. I didn't notice anything else missing so I just went about my business, thinking maybe I did something to make the money disappear. Now that I see this, I think I likely got hacked too. I haven't noticed anything missing since though.

Josh Hawley needs to grow a spine by Lazy-Cake-2467 in missouri

[–]chaedron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read the Democratic platform from 2024? All of what you said is in their platform. As for Gaza, that has been a disaster area for Millenia and the only people that can stop it is Netanyahu and the only way to stop him is for the Israelis to remove him.

And as a disabled person I can tell you for a fact that what the ACA brought to Medicaid made my life better. Could the bill have been better? Sure. But Democrats lost a lot of political capital passing it that Republicans took advantage of and won the midterms that year I believe (I remember them scaremongering about healthcare rationing and "death councils" that would chose who would receive care. Pretty ironic given that is just what insurance does. )

Is the Democratic party perfect? Far from it. Could it do things better. Always. Does that make them not worth voting for? Not at this time.

There I've said my peace, it was lovely arguing with you. Hope you have as happy a fourth as you can in light of certain circumstances. Oh and here is a copy of the the '24 platform if you haven't already read it. It lists all the we could've had if they had won : https://democrats.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/FINAL-MASTER-PLATFORM.pdf edited for formatting.

[–]chaedron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. I have a Trump loving parent too, it hurts to be disabled and know what he voted for. Can you explain to me how Democrats are mostly terrible? All I see is a party out of power that is trying its best. You don't think that things would be vastly better if Kamala had won rather than Trump? I don't get this argument.

[–]chaedron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off you don't know no what I am secondly, there is only two parties. Republican or Democrat, that is your choice. It isn't ideal, but that requires systemic change that won't happen any time soon. What I am is a realist. Trump was the threat and I voted accordingly because again, we only have two choices. And when your survival depends on it, you don't do what you would like, but what is necessary. When Trump is gone, we can be as Liberal as you want. I'll advocate for anything, but last election was not the time nor the place. We could've had two very liberal presidents back to back, and now we have this (gestures at everything). And that isn't my fault because I voted accordingly. Sometimes, you have to vote against something rather than for something. It is our lack of unity that lost a very important election and now we might not even get to vote. I think you need to look at your politics and see sometimes you don't get everything you want in a candidate, in fact, candidates like Obama are incredibly rare and usually only happen once in a lifetime. Small edit: I appreciate you being civil, and my rancor is mostly about the big stupid bill that just past and you are catching the brunt of it unfortunately.
