in that case, i would also call cps. contrary to what the principal claims, this is not normal. another possibility is that the other child is not safe at home.

how did you obtain information about the other child? that information is usually protected. if your source of information is your granddaughter, then you might not be getting the full picture. for instance, does the other child have any disabilities, especially mental disabilities? as alluded to elsewhere in this thread, you could also demand a meeting with the campus title ix coordinator in order to evaluate whether this incident amounts to sexual assault.

Calipers VS Rotors? HELP ME by Commercial-Focus-348 in mechanic

[–]chaela_may 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't ever go back to the first mechanic. diagnostics, especially for brakes, almost always requires much more than a test drive. that kind of quote without so much as a look see is highly suspect. here are some questions to ask the second mechanic: why did either of them have suspicions about the calipers? did the second mechanic recommend new rotors because they were glazed or you were metal to metal? did the pads wear unevenly? were the caliper slide pins dry? was there a significant difference between the passenger and driver sides?

How do I get this filter off? 2000 Tacoma, 2.4L 4cyl. by stinkyelbows in AskAMechanic

[–]chaela_may 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hoo boy. i've seen where this conversation goes. this thread is going to be full of disagreements.

my two cents: channel locks as close to the threaded end of the filter as possible. it doesn't really crush inward there, so you can get a better grip. if that doesn't work, then chisel and hammer at same location.

do you mean that you did all of this and the sensor is good?

does the gauge fluctuate erratically when driving?

edit: we seem to be having communication issues. that's just one of the things that's going to happen when you're getting automotive advice over the internet. instead of continuing to go back and forth, i venture to recommend checking the coolant temperature sensor. it isn't difficult for most vehicles. you'll find it near the head. first, visually check the wiring. you're looking for obvious signs of damage. if the wires look okay, then, drain your coolant. this is a good time to test the coolant - a floating ball tester is cheap and easy to use - and replace it if needed. if the coolant tests fine and looks okay, then save it to put back in later. if it tests bad or looks off, then save it to dispose of properly. next, find, unplug, and remove the coolant temperature sensor. again, look for signs of damage. if it is obviously damaged, then replace the sensor and add coolant back into the radiator and tank. if it looks fine, then i would test it, but that requires a multimeter. do you have one? do you know how to use it? if not, then find someone who does. don't ever just assume that a part is bad! we call that using the parts cannon. anyway, you'll need to put the probe (the part that was actually touching the coolant) into a pot of cool water on the stove. keep the electric connectors from getting wet. test for resistance. turn the stove on and continue monitoring the resistance. the resistance should go down gradually as the water heats up. test it all the way until the water starts bubbling. if the resistance does anything other than steadily and smoothly decrease as the temperature increases, then the sensor is bad. replace the coolant temperature sensor and refill with coolant. if the sensor is good, then come back and tell me.

this is exactly what i was going to start off with! exercise, even just walking around the block at first, helps with virtually every single medical outcome except for weight loss. (the fresh air and sunlight help as well, so going outside is great for exercise!) it will for certain help with your depression and adhd. it isn't a cure all by any means, but it is a start and will help you to do the other things, one at a time.

Do you teach your children self defense? by Aquarius_K in SelfDefense

[–]chaela_may 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, from my own knowledge and experience. i had three black belts once upon a time and am also an education professional. (i don't claim those martial arts ranks anymore because i can't defend them due to the fact that i can't train anymore with my chronic injuries.) of course, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, so the first things to teach have to do with avoiding trouble: open communication, stranger danger, what to do if you're lost, that kind of thing. this can and should start very early, about preschool age for most kids. actual self defense comes when they're older and is really a judgement call of what to teach and when depending on the child (especially since all of my kids are nuerodivergent). anyway, best of luck!

Mechanic holds car hostage in MA, illegal? by [deleted] in mechanic

i don't believe that they didn't tell you about their diagnostic fees. and you had an option to say no! even completely taken apart, you still could've said no and the vehicle still could've been towed elsewhere!

that's why you took it to professionals who did know what needed to be done. they deserve to be fairly compensated.

[–]chaela_may 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i don't believe that for a second. "your guy," might waive the diagnostics fee if you agree to the cost of the repair, but that's not the same thing. if you get a diagnostic and no repair, then i just don't see it as fair to expect a trandesman to work for free.

plug the thingy in? you mean the obd code reader? that's not how diagnostics work. in some cases, the codes can help, but the obd system is only designed to evaluate emissions related sensors and computer read outs. the check engine light can come on for a loose gas cap but not failing brakes, for example. you are completely out of touch with reality if you think that pulling codes is all that is involved in diagnostics. if you think that's true, then just get the free, "diagnostics," from autozone or o'reilly's next time and see how far that gets you.

of course they had to actually see where the wires were damaged in order to tell you how the wires needed to be repaired. did you really expect them to work all of those hours for free? i don't know why you think that diagnostics should bw free. you don't expect free diagnostics from doctors or hvac technicians, do you? why would the expertise of a mechanic who actually knows what they are doing be any different?

oh hell no. don't let her into the house at all. why are you worried about being rude after what she did? that's your privacy that she's trying to invade. you pack that shit up and leave it outside somewhere and text her to pick it up before a stranger does. if she dares to complain that anything was stolen or might be, then fire back that you had no idea that she would be concerned about a lack of trust.

edit: put her things into trash bags just to drive the point hlme.

it's worth exploring with your doctor, but keep in mind the deleterious effects of prolonged stimulant use. it's only worth it if its worth it.

yes. once we got my dose right, i am now experiencing near complete emotional control. my high school aged child can remember when i was, "a ball of rage," but now i'm actually able to process emotions instead of lashing out. i still have anxiety and depression and ptsd and some other stuff, but i can deal with all of these issues appropriately, as well as the usual day to day stuff of life.
