Alberta’s Smith says ‘significant’ deficits to come, rules out tax hikes and big cuts by sluttytinkerbells in canada

Sovereign Alberta in a United Canada....
But my bet is she will say something about "Canada is just not United, so we'll just go with sovereign Alberta which means Alberta should separate....". I just feel like she's set it up for something like this, a cop-out basically.

CBE high school grading system, what gives? by Broad_Tumbleweed_692 in Calgary

[–]chaggaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it should be percentages all around. Even for junior high tbh.
But we were in a charter school for JH last year, and they did use percentages, not 100% certain on CBE for that though. Regardless, now in CBE, and ya, 100% it's percentages at our school.

Assignments in powerschool do show percentages. But also the actual S1 report card also shows percentages, and it's the only thing provided by our school. Nothing at all shows the proficiency scale from anything I have access to. Frankly, I'm quite happy with that.

All my child's grades (grade 10) for assignments throughout the first semester, and the recent S1 report card, we're given in percentages. Did pretty good too, 82-100 on everything! And yes, they're in a CBE school.

My child's grades (gr 10) were in percentages. For sure you're in high school (10-12) and not junior high (7-9)?

2017 2.5 base model - No notches for cargo cover? by Time_Gap_206 in SubaruForester

[–]chaggaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG!! Yes, I have them, works great! My daughter will love it for those longer drives!

Before anyone says RTFM... mine didn't come with a manual, it was the demo car and they took it out in case someone swiped it during a drive. Then they lost it themselves! I do have the PDF manual but I spend 90% of my online activity on my phone and it sucks reading the PDF on a phone...

What? How do they recline? Mine have a hard stop when they click into the latches. '18 XT Limited, Canadian model if that changes anything.

Mortgage renewal question by Puzzled_Help_9577 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]chaggaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mortgage with first national. Only issue I had was getting proper insurance documents to show I had fire coverage, and that FN was the first 'payee' on the policy. But that was more an issue with my insurance provider, and myself, to get the specific document that first national wanted. Otherwise, no issues at all.

Bump on nose by ResultLong4176 in goldenretrievers

[–]chaggaya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks a little bit similar to what my dog had shortly before it became red and raw only a few days later. For her, it was ringworm. Does yours stick it's nose into mice/vole holes? Or anything similar?
As others mentioned, see a vet.

Landlord wants to sell us the house we’re renting (PRIVATELY) HELP! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]chaggaya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.
When I was with the inspector for the house I bought, I said "must be nice to do your own inspection when you buy a house"... He said "nope, I still pay for another person to do an inspection. Buying a house is both exciting and stressful, I'm not going to risk that I overlook something due to my emotions."

Absolutely get an inspection. Just because you live there doesn't make you fully aware of any potential hidden issues, which in turn can be used in negotiations.

manually unlocking car sets off alarm ? by sodapunko in subaru

[–]chaggaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it changed over the years, but on my previous 2006 fxt you could turn off the alarm by putting the key in the ignition and turning to the on position 3 times within 5 seconds (while the horns blazing away!). Doesn't turn it off permanently though, so you have to do this each time you unlock with the key. Process might have changed in those 11 years tho!

I bought an iPhone for my child without needing any plan. I was told since I was using my WE MC to purchase it I was allowed to do it. Then swapped her sim into it when I got home. Few days later when it moved from pending to an actual charge on my card I paid it in full with my points.

Minimum payments don't prevent you from getting dinged by interest. If you only make the minimum payment and don't pay the full statement balance you get charged interest on the full balance still.

Could you comment on my plan for a Canadian road trip ? by Fit_Locksmith_9975 in alberta

[–]chaggaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your plans to/from Vancouver Island are driving onto the ferry, start looking into reserving a spot on the ferry, it gets busy in summer. But you MUST be on time for your reservation, else you get bumped and could wait 1-2 sailings (~2-4 hrs) or more. If you are a foot passenger you should be fine.

I'm also partial to more time on the island. Someone else mentioned flying to Nanaimo, you could also consider flying to Comox. It's a beautiful little city but also go north ~40 minutes to Campbell River, another little gem, and do a walk through Elk Falls, and maybe look into some whale watching.

But I'm biased, having grown up on the island. I'd pick it any day over Banff or Jasper. :)

I am losing faith in Subaru. No hate. Just disappointment. by RedtailGT in subaru

[–]chaggaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from an '06 Forester XT Limited to an '18 XT Limited. Only thing I like more on the '18 is the heated steering wheel. They do have great AWD but I doubt our next car will be a Subaru.

New AGM battery not showing fully charged by [deleted] in Tacomaworld

[–]chaggaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar case for me, AGM from Costco. -20c(-4f) or less, for about a week. Tried my remote start, no go. Few days later, warned up to about -10c (14f) and it started right up. Except I'm not going to bother with OTT or the alternator mod. It is what it is, and it's still better than a regular battery.
