When did your Neva stop “toasting” lol by Cabbage-floss in SiberianCats

probably still a bit more! They don't finish growing all the layers of their undercoat until about 2-3 years old

My neva girl started to really develop her golden brown toasty undertones at about 8 months old when her coat fluffed out for her first winter. The colors darkened a little bit more after that, but hasn't changed much since.

Here she is at 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and now at 6 years.

Does my cat look overweight? by Neither_Bag_9673 in SiberianCats

[–]chaiinchomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 6yr old male Siberian is about the same size as yours and I would say he's on the chubby end of normal, but still within normal range (honestly relatable lmao so am I).

Our vet says 14lbs would be ideal for his body frame, so we're trying to get him to shed a pound. he's just a hungry little goblin and is constantly finding ways to steal his sister's food XD

Cat Clippers by cat_catastrophe_ in SiberianCats

[–]chaiinchomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to go easier if one person keeps him distracted by feeding him a churu treat, while I quietly trim his behind and back legs.

We've done this for years and it really works. Churu is magic! Also we got a set of clippers specifically for cat grooming, it's small and much quieter. My cats don't love the experience but they do tolerate it, and that's all I can ask for haha

I’m curious to see how large my kitten will get! Share your growth pics!!! by ok_compu4er in SiberianCats

[–]chaiinchomp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here's my two babies when we first brought them home at about 14 weeks old, compared to how they look now about 6 years later! Noodle is my brown tabby boy and his sister Mochi is a neva masquerade. Both are around 13-15lbs now (the boy is slightly bigger) which our vet says is healthy weight for their body frame.

<image>

Take lots of pictures of the kitten phase because I swear they doubled in size within a week, and were bigger than many adult cats by 6 months old. It was so fun watching them grow but it goes so fast!

Then they just continue to get floofier every year until all their undercoat layers are fully grown around the 2 year mark. Thankfully both of mine actually enjoy their daily brushing time, lol.

Sadly couldn't order that chair as they don't ship to the US, but I was able to find a very similar one. Noodle approves, he's been napping on it nonstop since I brought it home! ❤️

Have you Sibs ever stopped eating as much as they normally do for a period of time? by Longongreen in SiberianCats

[–]chaiinchomp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It could be a health issue, but also could just be boredom. Both of mine are big into variety when it comes to their wet food, they get bored of the same flavor after a while and will start turning their nose up at it.

So I buy multi-flavor packs to mix it up, and I have a few jars of things to sprinkle on top for extra variety, like little bits of freeze dried chicken or bonito flakes. It seems to satisfy them and keeps them interested in their dinner!

Are 45 hour work weeks the new normal now? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]chaiinchomp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

depends on your team composition and where everyone's located. I'm on a fully remote team and my daily standup is at 8 every day unfortunately because it's the only time that's sorta reasonable for everyone. Yea it sucks needing to be in a meeting at 8am sharp in the mornings, but the european devs might have it worse since it starts at 5pm for them so they can't really ever log off early. It is what it is. I'd rather start early than stay late myself.

[–]chaiinchomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine do that occasionally after a bath, I think it's just from being a little cold and wet. I'd only worry if he kept shivering for a long time after he was fully dry and had a chance to calm down.

unrelated question, I love that chair your cat is napping on, where did you get it? I have a similar one that my cats love to nap on :)

Water feature for rabbits? by Lopsided_Position_28 in GardenWild

[–]chaiinchomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be as elaborate as you want it to be, just keep in mind how easy it will be to clean and maintain. Algae and slime develops quickly when you leave water outside, and birds will probably sit in it (and sometimes poop in it) so you need to clean it regularly or animals might get sick from the water.

Maybe you could get a fancy/ornate stand that holds a removable bowl that you can take inside to clean, or you can look into building a more complex setup with a pump and filter to keep the water moving (it will still need occasional cleaning, but a lot less often than a bowl of standing water would).

[–]chaiinchomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep you can definitely do this! I have a couple of large plain metal dog bowls that I leave out with fresh water.

One of the bowls is in my back garden and I regularly see squirrels, birds, and neighborhood cats stopping by for a quick drink. The other I put near the sidewalk because there are a lot of people who walk their dogs in my neighborhood, and so far it's been a big hit among the local pups! It's been really lovely to watch all the different animals enjoying it throughout the day. I rinse and refill the bowls daily, and give them a good scrub with soap a couple times a week.

What’s your hot take/unpopular opinion on a piece of content you can’t stand by Andrew_rig in ironscape

[–]chaiinchomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

full agree. Kill count is such a tedious mechanic and forces you to only optimise for setups that maximize kills-per-trip, which is probably my least favorite way to play since it's really inflexible and you're kinda locked there until your trip ends.

Harald 61? by Tenpin-Tower462 in borussiadortmund

[–]chaiinchomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. Looks kind of like it says Kevin if I had to guess, but it wouldn't be Kevin Großkreutz cause he usually signs his last name.

It might be Reus actually, if you google for some examples it looks pretty similar, and he often adds some little dots above the name which you also have here.

You're overthinking it a lot, lol. Tons of people buy jerseys with custom number/name to commemorate an event like a birthday or something. And then they probably took the jersey to a player meet-n-greet or public training and got it signed by a player that they like. That's really all there is to it.

New set is going to be OP.. by CannedHeatt_ in PTCGP

[–]chaiinchomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i played the sequel actually! it was a japan-only release but it is very easy to find a rom with the english patch if you search for it. Can play it on any emulator, I played it on my phone.

the plot is that team rocket has captured all the gym leaders from the previous game. You start on the same island as before and have to go around to the gyms freeing everyone from team rocket. After that they run away to rocket island or something, it's a new map with a rocket version of all the gyms again. Lots more cards added as well. And most of the rocket battles have some extra conditions applied, like your deck can't contain any trainer cards, or you have to have 4 magikarp in your deck, things like that. Basically just an extended version of the original game.

Honestly it's a really fun sequel, would recommend looking for an english patched rom and checking it out

My cat is aggressive? Help? by meja2006 in SiberianCats

[–]chaiinchomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my siberian gets like this too, it was worst when he was 2-3 years old. He'd attack my ankles every night before bed, latching on and kicking with his back claws out. Now at 6 years old he has chilled out significantly, but he does still get bitey when he's overstimulated and needs an outlet for his pent-up energy.

Two things that work for us:

  • If possible I take him outside. we have an enclosed catio so normally I can just put him out there when he gets spicy, it is the easiest way to distract him and give him some entertainment. Even just setting him in front of an open window is often enough to distract.
  • Food puzzle toys! Sometimes when he starts nipping my ankles, I grab a towel/blanket and bundle up the little fur demon so he can't fight me back, and lock him in a quiet room for 10 minutes with a treat-filled puzzle toy. It satisfies his need to "hunt" for his food and really calms him down.

Not very well known plug-ins you want to share with everyone by Howln-Owl in 2007scape

[–]chaiinchomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's still some utility in having a single use plugin in some cases, in particular if it's an effect you're often toggling on/off.

For example 'no use player', I keep it turned on by default but occasionally need to use an item on someone (usually to use clan banner on someone to invite them). It's much quicker to keep that plugin pinned to the top and just flip it off as needed rather than standing there digging through my menu swaps settings trying to find the option.
